patm300e I started one in the Techniques column... http://forum.cakewalk.com/Mixing-Practice-m3537464.aspx Did not get a lot of takers, but the ones that did do the mixes did an awesome job! Also there are links to several projects where you can download the tracks, stems or finished project.
Thanks for this link (and the linked links to which it links). I have been looking for this sort of resource. Once again, the Sonar Forum proves to be about the most useful of all my bookmarks.

telecharge I understood the videos to be supplement, not a replacement.
And you are absolutely right, at least as far as my suggestion was concerned. Take the following video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stl98-iEtbY Now, Spanish is in no way shape or form my first language. But I can tell you, this video is the best Sonar installation video (using Command Center) I have ever seen. The video is educational, and fun (I love the game play during installation). Cakewalk could take a tip (or 6 or 10) from this guy, and produce, at the very least, a comparable installation explanation. They could describe the process in text (like an ezine article), and embed a video showing the process. Just like this guy. I'm tempted to recommend this video be made a forum "sticky". At least our Spanish speaking brothers and sisters would have a beautiful, full explanation of how installing Sonar with the Command Center works. Of course, it would be much better if Cakewalk produced a similarly comprehensive installation article and video, and posted same on this site.
Pain - the absence of things hoped for, the evidence of catastrophes unforeseen.

This is indeed a great video, thanks for the link. I know enough Spanish to recognize this is a fine example of what an educational video should be. It's not just that he knows what he's talking about, he seems like someone who would be a fun hang There's also what I see as a purity of attitude. He doesn't have an agenda, he's not out to impress anyone or show how cool he is...which of course means that he's genuinely cool.

mudgel A mix competition. Kudos could be a prize rather some material object. A mix could be a regular part.

I thought considering it seemed on the spur of the moment and had absolutely no promotion at all that it did pretty good. I didn't take part as I wanted to be an unbiased observer to see how it went. If it was connected to something, I don't know, perhaps a monthly ezine that gets released with each monthly update. Oh that's right, that ezine s been discontinued. Never mind, I think it should be connected to Sonars opening page in any case. In any case it will take a lot mor thinking I guess. Considering that Cakewalk pulled this one because of a format I think it will take some convincing t get them onboard with anything, especially driven by the members instead of just consumed by the members. Need a much bigger and wider conversation.

Update: The feedback here has been extremely helpful. I've had some conversations with Cakewalk the past two days, and plans are being formulated that IMHO will incorporate what you liked about the eZine, but also expand on it. We're hoping to nail this down in time for the May update. I knew people enjoyed the eZine, but didn't realize how many people considered it such an important component of the monthly update. So thanks for letting your voices be heard...Cakewalk truly does listen.

Maybe I am saying something that's already been said. We all know (and CW admits to this) that the e-zine has some great content that shows off Sonar's many abilities', and that would be great info in the hands of new and longtime users.
Then why not put it in C3 as a link below Documentation and/or along with those videos that come up when d/l starts?

Like some others I came late to the e-zine party but soon after looked forward to reading the next edition (all of it) as much as learning what that particular month's Platinum update was about. So I was very sad to learn of it's demise but then very glad that hear of its rising from the ashes.

Not just being one for flapping my lips I'd like to add my tuppence worth here. Craig's E-Zine was very helpful when I started using Cakewalk in a way that the "online" help wasn't. I will miss it sorely. I hope it's replacement will be similarly simple and direct. Pity it will take to May to launch. 'Suppose there is no chance of five more PDF's to keep the faithful going 'till then? Best Regards Marko

Actually that's not correct. Each SONAR feature covered in the eZine indicated the versions with which it worked, so the eZine covered updates for Artist, Professional, and Platinum.

The plan is to expand on what the eZine offered. It's clear from the comments here that the "take the user by the hand through the new features" was the main attraction, so that will be retained. Pity it will take to May to launch. 'Suppose there is no chance of five more PDF's to keep the faithful going 'till then? Sorry, no...Harmony Central is slated to launch a books division in April, which has booked (get it?) a lot of my time for March and April. However, you'll be happy to know I've already started working on the new magazine. If any of you have suggestions for a cool name, I'm all ears. The only real stipulation is not to have "Cakewalk" or "SONAR" in the name, because we're anticipating that non-SONAR users will find much of the other material interesting. Please be patient...I truly believe anyone who liked the eZine with not be disappointed.

another disappointment in recent decisions being made by cakewalk. what on earth does it hurt to have the pdf version available for those who want it? personally I find it somewhat rude to do to customers like me who like to have documentation of ongoing changes on local hdd. I am now saving "whats new" web pages as pdfs, but not everyone has full acrobat software to do that, not to mention it is easier and slightly nicer in appearance when we got the pdf straight from cakewalk. cakewalk is literally delivering the same exact info on the web page, just now removed ONE LINK to a pdf version of the same info. Is it really that time consuming for your staff to make the pdf from exact same info already on the what's new web page? annoying.

I think the value add with the eZine was that Craig took the monthly "what's new" and gave a guided tour of what you could do with it. That is what will be missed!

Please note that the decision to release the eZine on PDF was mine. I don't believe the company ever intended to shift the release notes process over to PDF. My contention at the time was that something more like a magazine than the usual release notes done by other software companies would be welcomed by the community, and provide Cakewalk with a competitive advantage. However bear in mind that no one at Cakewalk itself had, or has, a publishing background. No one there had the benefit of being involved with reader surveys that for decades, gave me information on what consumers wanted. The eZine was totally virgin territory for the company; it was basically me sitting in Nashville collecting material and putting it together (and Noel explaining things to me that I was too stupid to figure out, so I could in turn explain them to other mortals). What inspired me to do it was the monthly releases. It just seemed like too good an opportunity to pass up to build a monthly publication around the releases. Ultimately, all's well that ends well because Cakewalk is intrigued by what I want to do next, is much more participatory, and there's a degree of excitement that didn't exist with the eZine. A lot of it is still on my shoulders and frankly, I hope I can pull it off! But I figure if I dream big, then getting only halfway there will still be cool My current plan is to see how far this new concept can be taken over the course of a year, and like the eZine, it will not spring into life fully-formed, but will evolve. I'm optimistic. I think the bottom line is that it's good the eZine went away, because if it hadn't, I'd still be doing the same thing...and I believe we can do better. Again, thank you so much for your support and kind words. Now when I'm working until 3 AM on a Saturday night to hit a deadline, I won't be doing it for some abstract reason but because I know I'm doing something of value to the community. And let me add one more thing: I'd sure like more community involvement. I know some of you are doing interesting projects with SONAR. I want to continue with "Anatomy of a SONAR Project," but I don't want it to be all about me...I want it to be all about us. Please PM me if you have a project you'd like to see covered.
