Good point, Eric! I've always pronounced it ass-ey-o. But I don't think I've ever heard it actually in spoken conversation.

(and yes, that would be the American pronunciation.) Unless you know phonetics, I don't know how to spell it so everyone knows what I'm talking about. lol

Beagle and ASIO? I called it A-so until I heard other guys calling it ah-ze-o Azio (ah-ze-o), that great restaurant in Atlanta! You might know it, Beags... it's not far from the fabulous Fox Theater As for ASIO... well oops here's another one I've always spelled out A.S.I.O. Same goes for W.D.M. And P.C.M.C.I.A. (I bet most folks say something like 'packumsia')

ericyeoman I say tomato, you say tomato, lets call the whole thing off. Hang on, that doesn't quite work... Which highlights something I just realised. I have no idea how Beagle pronounces A-so. Being English, I would pronounce a short A, like 'are'. Beagle, being US based, most likely has a longer A sound than I would, like 'aye'. Just a thought. sorry - I'm not an English major, so I am not very good at writing out pronuciations! I looked up the pronunciation in the online dictionary and I should have written Ey-so (long A sound = "ey" in the dictionary)

I also say W.D.M. but there doesn't seem to be a good way to pronounce it otherwise. and I also say PCMCIA, I've never heard anyone call it something else. but what about my German word there? Noo-man or Noy-man?

BTW - when talking about Nueman mics, I also have a tendancy to *think* the inflection of Noo-man as pronounced by Jerry Seinfeld when greeting the mailman!

Hahaha, if I ever get a Neumann mic, I'll be sure to walk into my studio every day and say with a sarcastic glance "Hello.......Nooman" I'm pretty sure it's Noy-man, though. First time in a studio I called it a Nooman & got a bunch of weird looks, like "hey who's the noob" Mike, you know the Fox too? That place really had style... I lived on peanut butter sammiches every day just so I could afford to catch a show at the Fox once a month.

Unlike most people here, including my dad. lol Yeah, if you never grew up with Dutch or German sounds, that must be a horroroso tongue-twister... Like how they pronounce Merkwürdigeliebe in Dr. Strangelove - very funny.

:-) It's also spelled several ways here in the States. My father-in-law dropped the final 'h' because he didn't like people pronouncing that with a 'th.' But the correct spelling of that nickname is Woogie. At least that's what my oldest soon goes by. lol Some of my students have called me that too. :-) Boy...I miss Simpson some days.

Well, hey, when you have a last name like mine, which most people can't spell right...these things matter! LOL And then, I went and named our youngest son Alan, not realizing there are 3 ways to spell that. Poor kid has to spell BOTH his names all the time. :-(
