Doggie style... Final Remix?

A 3 dog night cover I've been working on for 6 weeks! It's been a pig.

I don't use loops, I know everybody does and says I'm crazy, they're mostly right. So I'm playing the drums. I didn't use a tick track or tempo map, so "it floats" a little, but I think that gives it a bit of a live feel? I'll be checking out some other folks stuff this evening after work. I hope this little diddy helps kick off your weekend!

I'm also playing my Latin Percussion Congas (mic'ed) a shaker, and a tamborie.

The Taylor 754 12 string, My warwick fretless (it's a challenging bass line...) ahh, there's some electric guitar in there, NI's B4 on the hammond. Lots of vocal tracks. They're not edited, so there are some imperfections, but it gives it character :-) I hope you enjoy it, it's an old favorite of mine.

At the top, Shambala.

Very good Robby... only 2 3 suggestions, after the one two listens...

The falsetto 3'rd on on the "How does yer light shine", is too weak and wimpy, go ahead and belt it out... even strained it will sound better... the rest of the harmony is great...

Crank up the drums! mo' pfhat...

I'm only at a laptop but it sounds well balance trough the $1 speakers.
Good job, I'm glad I'm not the only other stuborn  fool around here who would also play my own drums a little out of time than use a loop.

I always thought this song was written by BW Stevenson but I just check on Wikipedia and he had only pre released it a bit before the Dawgs. I had that album of his just for that song.

Really great song to cover, performances sound spot on to me. Only nit is the snare gets lost on a few hits. A really cool sounding snare. Really enjoyed it and haven't heard the original in years.

Ok, based on the feedback (Thanks Frank and Grant)

I boosted the drums, you can hear them now... Please let me know if it's too much.

And I kicked that snare up a bit, did quite a bit to it actually? Again, pls let me know if I "enjoyed the pooch..."

Also, Frank, I did another vocal track on the "How does your light shine" part? I sang it high and in full voice. I'm now coughing up blood, thank you. But then again, I had some blood for dinner and some went down the wrong hatch, so that may explain it.

ahhhh, I did a lot more stuff on the mains, changed the compression, lost Izotope limitter and replaced it w/FabFilter, a few other things that sounded good to me. But we all know that me at the console is like Princess Diana's driver behind the wheel...

Doggie style :-) LOL! I hope someone appreciates my work on that fretless... It's taken a long time to learn to play that damn thing.

You're right....that bass line is COOL!  I wanna play that way some day.  I should practice more...

At 1:33 and 2:19 I'm hearing the vocal harmony a bit more than the melody.  Or maybe I always thought the high part was the lead.  Oh well... you're the master at this.
All in all, really sweet.  Nice pickin' for sure.

Man, that bass is cool!  :)

Hey Robby this is nice, the guitars sound really nice.  The master is sounding a little thin, it needs punch.  The drums also need some work they sound like cardbord.

On saying that the playing is excellent.

Well I have an artifact at the beginning now, which I can delete, I'm hoping this is close, I added some multi-band saturation (Saturn - GOOD STUFF! Highly recommended!) On the drum bus to improve the "cardboard" LOL! An army of ears is better than 2... My CPUs are "maxed" so even if I want to, I doubt I can make more changes.

Your playing and singing is great (as always) but there is some punch missing to both the mix and the chorus. Mebee you wanted a more laid back version? I'm confused by the drums then. They seem like they want to move the song during the chorus but the guitars are kinda laid back.

Other than that observation you did a great job.

Yeah, I doubt it, but that's OK. I used to get lathered? Now I only do it when I shave, which isn't that often?

I do shave my face regularly however, WAIT!? Are we talking about the same thing?

Ok, edit the crashes, check. It will be in remix4. Thanks Jim.

I've never really done that? But I guess I can see your point.

    ------------
Edit, oh yeah, I just listened and focused on it, and not all, but some are way too loud, maybe I can look at shortening some as well. Thanks again.
    ------------
2nd edit - "Voice sounds real strong and beautiful."

Throws head in slow motion, lowering it, and swinging it from left to right, allowing mane to flow in billowy folds like a Breck girl commercial.  I need to start including videos in these posts?
    -----------
3rd edit, "maybe not..." unfortunately, the only billowy mane is from my ears and nose :-(

I'm sorry for that right there Lord...

These crashes sound like the mike was RIGHT HERE when in a real world situation the tail on the crash would soon be overpowered by the rest of the kit.  Use a sample that is not a ride crash, something like a 14" or so.
