ORIGINAL: mgh

i put a few songs into Audacity then cut 'em, exported as mp3 and then uploaded those to my phone. for those interested (ie no-one) my ringtone is 'Punish My Heaven' by Dark Tranquility and my text tone is "The Splendour of a Thousand Swords Gleaming Beneath the Blazon of the Hyperborean Empire" by Bal-Sagoth....LOL

The only thing you're really missing is the bill each month. I have a land line, a cheap cell for work and a cell for personal use and road trips with internet capacity. I'm officially a cell phone junkie.

Yes, you should be embarassed.

Everyone knows that it takes a dedicated stereo Mastering and editing program like Sound Forge to properly create a ringtone.

But...

Here's the ultimate insult/compliment. Some schmuck is offering one of my tunes as a downloadable ringtone.

I chop up songs in Goldwave, save them as Mp3, then Bluetooth them across to my phone.

Currently I've got 2 of my own songs, a cut down of a Steve Vai solo, and one I used for testing and saving to the wife's phone, er, Nickelback, Rockstar.

But they are quite good live

Ringtones. Yup.

Which led to me to wonder if other's had done the same, and then, I thought WAIT! I betcha everyone in the CH has an interesting/great/rocking/personality matching ring tone. What's yours???

Tonight, I made:
Hey Jude (Main ringtone... the NahNahNah's bit at the end. "Ju-Ju-Ju-Ju-Judy-Judy-judy"!
Guns of Brixton (the opening riff) for my husband
Sour Times (Portishead. The intro makes a GREAT ringtone, btw)
No Woman, No Cry (For when my hippie-chick friend calls
Instant Karma ("And we all shine on!")

I do that too.
I looped a guitar riff from Sigue Sigue Sputnik for a ring tone.
I also recorded my girlfriend in a sultry voice saying "matt, matt, pick me up you handsome bald man you..." That one's great for board meetings...
Sonar - jack of all trades.

Russell/Crg, I have Verizon!

Google "Make your own ringtone". You'll find lots of sites that you can upload to and edit (if you haven't already done so) - make sure it notes that it's compatible with your carrier (and sometimes phone, too). Once you've created the rington, the site will send you a pic message with the tone as a sound attachment. When you open the message, most phones will allow "Save As Ringtone". Totally works.

Oh yeah. Many of the sites are free, and have no subscription, but make sure you check!

Yep... I used to have great fun with Myxertones doing that... sometime last year, I logged in to get a message that says that, at the request of Verizon, they no longer send to Verizon phones. *sigh*

's OK, there are other more amusing things in the world...

I used the Wallace & Gromit theme song for my old RAZR.   I used $5 software from MOTO that allowed transferring MP3 files right over the USB port and use them as ringtones.

Didn't use SONAR... used Adobe Audition, but I'm sure SONAR would work just fine.

Clipped the intro portion, and used a highpass EQ to cut out everything below 300 Hz. (You might want to try that with your "sampled" tones so you can crank them up without overloading the ringer speaker.)

Recently replaced the RAZR with an enV Touch, and I haven't had time to mess with it yet. It does looks like it can take MP3's directly over USB, too, with the Rhapsody software.

I've got the guitar intro from Happy House by Siouxsie & the Banshees looped on my mobile, and I chopped up Diamonds are for Ever for the other half so she gets the nice mellow tinkly bit for a couple of bars, and then if she hasn't answered by then she gets the big DaDaDa Da Da to wake her up!

Got to agree on Sour Times being a good one!

Like Mark, my ringtone sounds like a phone ringing. With the handy vibrating feature, when it rings I know it is mine.

Re:Embarassed with my latest use for Sonar. 2009/09/21 12:31:22 (permalink)
Hi,

I filmed "my ringtone" ... 30 years ago!

Called it "Black Nails or Electronic Meditations" ....

I took a bunch of things that had visuals for me ... and made a sound collage first ... and then set film to it ... the end result ... a trip!

Used the following:

Ultima Spiaggia (Italy)
Kevin Ayers (Confeesions of Dr. Dream - It begins with a blessing)
...
and then closed with Jim Morrison screaming ... has this dream stopped?

I got permission from Kevin to use his music, but Ray Manzarek was a total jerk and I will find the most dastardly voice to scream it again so I can redo the whole film because of that fudgehead! I could not release the film because of him!

When I filmed it, I had cut the opening sequence just like the overflow of sound effects that include a drive, accident, breaks, and insania ... and then into a voice in nowhere land (forest) out of which comes a woman ... that sits in the meadow ... and Kevin's song starts up, there is a boyfriend in front of her ... and when he says "get out of my dream" ... she disappears and he looks around 360 and can't find her ... my camera moves up and watchs a plane take off and catch its jet plume behind it as it rises into the sky ... with Mike Oldfield going crazy on the guitar part ... and for fun I added a live drum break with a close friend drummer that was able to double up Edgar Broughton and I put that in there ... and faded into the quiet sound at the end of the song with the bit from Jim M ... is anybody out there ... is anybody out there ... and the credits end at the dn of his scream.

I have never been ... it was written off my imagination off pieces of music that were specially "alive" in my head ... had absolutely nothing else to do with anything else ...

I'm looking for a woman so I can redo this film now ... the 8mm format and Kodak film has suffered badly since then.

I'm debating getting a really nice camera ... and tell all these musicians that they are really missing out ...

Hi,

I really want to get some things done with a DAW for a ringtone ... but I have to tell you that right now, the majority of DAW's are total **** ... even the most basic thing I want to do is not working ... and that is just stupid ... and I really miss the radio station right now ... as those TEAC's make these DAW's look like over-priced crap created by people that can't edit worth beans and have never recorded a song in their lives!

All I was looking was to record this, come back and superimpose that, come back and maybe add a third thing ... really simple, segway like stuff that blends and comes and goes ... and ... for all intents and purposes this can't be done well on a DAW ... that is designed to a beat and only add things for music'less dj's ...

Maybe I don't understand the nature of exactly waht you tried to do that "can't be done" but it sure sounds like:

basic track editing
overdub
overdub
add some envelopes
put some fx's on
set your levels
export your mix.

I dunno, but it seems to me that a lot of us here are doing just that, and it's working.

Geeze, one guy calls me a geek for being an audiophile, and now you are saying I am a musicless DJ cuz I like my DAW?

Hmmm.

Hi,

You goons ... taking it too seriously ... you can joke and I can't? I'm gonna set the Dennis Bloodnock on you guys!

I have not, been able to record something off a turntable ... for example, into a DAW, and then go back and do something over it ... samething if I had just played an instrument instead.

And the ability to have learnt this, or anyone have the time/ability/desire to help someone else ... is sad indeed ... I guess I get what I deserved ... attack off the killer daw'ers!

Bapu ... and most of you here ... I have always considered you guys "musicians" ... I kind find it weird that you can even take that comment ... and take it personal ... meaning that you guys are not musicians after all?

I just want to record and and enjoy it ...

Pedro,

I was funnin' with ya.

However, whether you record off an album, guitar, synth or a microphone I do think the process is the same.

I'm still really not clear what does not work for you with SONAR.
