Thank you, Gist. :-) Thanks, Marius! :-) Believe it or not, I've heard of keyswitches and Ron has told me to use them...and I haven't yet. Another learning curve I'm afraid to try to tackle. But I will. (I wish some of this could be easy!) :( On the other hand, I'm glad you like the composition at least. :-) Thanks, Tim! :-) Yeah, I think a piano in an orchestra is cool (although it's hard to HEAR them!), but I've gotten scowls from some when I do it. (OK, not scowls, I guess...) Fortunately, there are plenty of other instruments to choose from. :-) Also fortunately, I didn't have to pay them much. But they did have to come in one at a time. And it was really tight with the basses and the poor violinists kept hitting the wall with their bows. Thanks Bob? A B section? As in, add more? You can't imagine how long it took to come up with this! Too bad you can't just keep looping the hook...

Superb! I guess you've come to the end of the road on this piece. Sorry for coming to the party late. I really love the Celtic undertones of this piece. Really nice composition, performance and mix! I especially enjoyed the drums in this piece.

This piece reminds me that I need to start spending more time here again. This is really nice work, Janet! This makes good use of dynamics and I just love the arrangement and composition. Gorgeous melody. Very nice!

This is so much better Janet. Sounds really authentic now. Sorry for the late reply. I listened when you first edited it, but i didn't get a chance to comment. Listening again now. Really is such a beautiful tune. Best Mark.

He he, the keyswitching will come when you're ready for them. But ut's actually quite easy and very cool. As soon as you start using it you can't stop, he he. However, if you just use two or three different articulations you should probably just load the ones you use into it's own instance of your software. the Keyswitch patches are RAM hungry bastards! But this technique can make usage and auditioning different articulations as easy the well known drag and drop. If you're interested, I can type up some tricks and techniques I use my self. Maybe it can ease the learning curve a little

g_randy: good point. :-) Thanks Jim. So glad you liked it. You're not the first one to mention Celtic undertones. I have no idea where that came from. lol Thanks, Cryo! Good to see you again. Thanks Grant. I appreciate that. :-) Mark...you came back? I'm flattered. Thank you! It still needs some work...we'll see if I'm able to do what's needed. Ok, then, Marius, I'm glad you love it! :-) If I'm interested? IF I'M INTERESTED??!! OF COURSE!! :-) Anything to make this stuff easier. But I have a question...if I need a staccato section, can't I just adjust the midi notes? I'm not sure how you'd change them for a fast section (that's not staccato), but there's gotta be a way. As you can maybe tell, I'm much more at home in prv. But if you promise to make it sound easy, using small words and typing REAL slowly, maybe I'll get it. (and don't tell Ron, cause he already told me before but I haven't worked on it like I should...although this is only my 2nd (or 3rd?) orchestral piece with EWQL in 8 months, so maybe he'll let me off easy.)

Actually, PRV is your friend when using keyswitches Adjusting the length of the MIDI notes is the "old school" way of doing it from before the huge sample libraries became the standard, so yes, it can be done. The difference is, if you have a staccato patch, it will sound better because the sampled instruments were actually played that way. The attack is a different story. If it's slow, you can't make it faster, however, if it's fast then you can fake it slower with the attack envelope. But there are easier and better sounding ways. I have some spare time during this weekend, I just have no idea when at the moment (crazy projects at work) but I will write down a little thing and PM you. Maybe Ron's tips in addition to mine will get you up to speed I'll type as slow as I can. One letter - sip of coffee - next letter - sip of coffee and so forth. You'll hear from me in mid june 2013 if the world still stands (LOL)

Good point. When I first heard EW's staccato I thought they were so cool! And that can't really be done effectively with midi alone. OK, you can type faster than that I suppose. Just use small words. But the way things are going here it may be 2013 before I get back to this. I hope not. Thanks again for your help! :) Actually, perhaps I could even read the manual and understand it this time. :-)

Finally uploaded a new mix. It's still not perfect, but at least it's better. Marius, I figured out how to use the keyswitches, but now I have to figure out WHERE to use different articulations. One step at a time I guess. lol

I seem to have come in late to this one. Just had a listen, and the tune is nice, as is the arrangement. I get reminded of something ... is it the Braveheart theme? Just the first three notes or so of the theme. The rest is different. Orchestrating on a keyboard/PC is hard, in a similar way as getting an authentic percussion thing happening is. You've done well inside that challenge!

Thank you, Daniel. I don't recall the Braveheart theme off the top of my head, but hopefully it's not too close. :) I have been listening to soundtracks, though, so that might be in my subconsciousness. And orchestrating is hard for me anyway, since it's all mostly a shot in the dark. I just picked up 'The Technique of Orchestration' that Ron suggested I buy last year. Now that I've tried it a few times, I realize how much the book can teach me. So we'll see what happens. :)

Hmm. Well, yes, there is some similarity in the themes, but I think the main thing is those soaring, melancholy notes. The Braveheart theme is an incredibly powerful piece, and the fact that you are touching toes with something like that is a thing to be proud of. To my ears, this is decidedly the West, with reference to the once great Sioux nation. As much as I love Colorado, Montana puts it to shame, and this song takes me there every time I hear it. If you've never been there, go. You'll understand. The stuff you've been producing lately just blows me away. I am so proud of you.
