Billy is also reporting better experiences with expanded so perhaps there is something in it. Who knows with software though, you've only got to look at the vastly different experiences of users since X1's release to be completely confused.

I've had SONAR X1C Expanded sitting in the background all afternoon doing nothing. that used to trigger not only the lost Control Bar with the need to futz about making it re-appear but also made the Minimize and Maximize symbols in the very top right corner of the Main SONAR window disappear altogether with no way to bring them back at all except to close SONAR and re-open. All good since Expanded installed. I admit that maybe just maybe you can get a general feeling about things that could be atrributed to a placebo effect but these things were repeatable X1C problems - now gone.

I'm not complaining mind you just trying to understand why these inexplicable things occur. guess they wouldn't be inexplicable then hey!

X1E is not X1C. Once you install X1E you no longer have X1C on your system since the X1C files are replaced. X1e is a brand new product with thousands of hours of development invested and very significant changes to the prochannel and effects management areas as well as the typical tweaks and optimizations/enhancements that we do in every major release.

As such its it surprising that some issues that may have existed earlier are resolved. For one they may simply not apply anymore due to the nature of the code changes. They were very significant in some areas.

mattox82 Is wright, its more about finding what you like and what works and keeping it simple / less confused like with ableton effects rack, now i can have my favourite setting at a glance tied to act, a bit like ableton live effects rack ties to my Apc40 controller, so now in X1 i can have a more spontanious live feel going on also, for those moments of inspiration and ideas when combined with a second controller set up for the bussing, in my case a novation Remote zero with 16 channel and 8 fx busses, their is no other possible way to come up with new routing ideas in such a simple way, so it makes sense  these new effects racks in X1 even if they may not be quite as advanced as some other Daw racks, Expanded rack still opens up some great potential, i nearly quit on X1, But the new direction may just save it, Providing Cakewalk are going to start listening to some valid users ideas or improvements that will make a difference as Sonar Changes. Many other daws may lead the way with some things, but Sonar has its own Leading technology too, no matter how Frustrated i have been with sonar over the years, For example how can one do with out the inline piano roll and combined piano rolls option which is so valuable!!!!!!!!!!!, so ending it on this note again Providing Cakewalk are going to start listening to some valid users ideas or improvements that will make a difference as Sonar Changes.

as a "major release" is expanded then just a differently-named "x2"? (ie, the approximately yearly upgrade cycle release) - i get confused when marketing takes over major/minor software build release numbering... also, it's not "brand new" as it's building on all the previous releases... resist the dark side noel!

Thats a pretty narrow definition of a new release. By that reasoning no version of any software we ever shipped could be considered new since we always derive from a past version and build on that.  In our world a new version is one that includes full blown features rather than bug fixes or small tweaks. X1E definitely doesn't fit that category. The fact that its not called X2 is due to the fact that we are building add ons to the X1 Brand. That part is marketing yes - I think that direction has been explained on our website in the pre X1E launch materials.

Mike and Karl,

I can continue to report that X1C-Exp is doing extremely well so far, for me.   Frankly I'm quite pleased.  I, too, would love to know what went into "Expanded" that might have solved whatever it was that prevented my main system from getting along with X1 -- but the result is certainly more important at the moment.

Once again I spent the entire day and night yesterday (well mostly) working in X1.   I was using many different synths, doing many different FX, lots of editing, bouncing, etc, etc.   IOW - I was trying to exercise X1 as if I was working on a serious and "gotta have it now" project.

Other than the 2 incidents of crashing I mentioned elsewhere -- neither of which are of any real concern to me at this point -- X1C-Exp performed very well.

As many know, I have been critical of both Cakewalk and X1 due to the fact I had mostly headaches trying to use X1 on my very stable system from the day it was released and forward.   But I'm not a Cake basher by any stretch of the imagination (as one or two users on this forum have suggested I am).

So it is important to also be supportive and acknowledge when things are working well.   And I am doing so, willingly.

As I said elsewhere recently on the forum -- I was actually having fun working in X1.

And - also again - there are things I don't like or wish were implemented differently, but that does not negate nor diminish the features and functions that are strong / powerful in X1.

It's nice to be able to finally use it as part of my musical arsenal of tools.

And, just to be sure we're still on topic (lol) -- FX Chains 2.0 is definitely a solid, fun, and very useful update!

Well you just cleared up 2 things for me:

1- I no longer have to call it "X1C-Exp" ... obviously it is officialy X1E LOL

2- The depth of code changes may, in fact, be responsible for the ability of me running it on my main system finally.

I can live with both of those ;)

Thanks.

Well ba_midi it is really nice you are able to enjoy X1 like many of us had since several months now. X1-Expanded is definitely an improvement for you, and I am glad you join the ranks of the more satisfied users. For me - I am curious if more improvements are on the way. Sadly - my financial situation does not permit me to jump to Expanded at this very moment, but I will do this within a few weeks.

furry muff, i suppose i'm confused by the use of "major" which in software means the "1" in "1.0" as opposed to say the "2" in "1.2" which is a minor release... "X1e is a brand new product" and "a new release" but it's not "brand new" - it's "new" but in a "new update" stylee... also, it's the weekend, you shouldn't even be here ;-)

I hope you'll be able to join the ranks of the Expanded soon ;)

I would hope that whatever went into Expanded that allowed my main system to run X1 in a reasonably stable way will also be incorporated in future "free" updates for all those who bought X1.

Frankly I think it's unfair and unfortunate to have had to pay for Expanded in order to get a 'working' X1 going, but considering the extra value (features) in Expanded, it's a price I am happy to pay (and have).

I hope you'll enjoy being expanded soon as well lol

None of the other customers attacked me for my choice not to buy today. The store keeper wished me good day and said see you soon. He wasn't offended that nothing tickled my fancy today, he's a good Greengrocer, he knows I'll be back.

Some of the guys around here are like people at the greengrocers who don't buy anything but stand around all day and point out ad nauseam how pitiful the shop is compared to the one down the road that opened in2004.

Yes- there are quite a few of those-2 in this thread alone. To be able to chain FX and have instant control of 6 parameters instantly is a bad thing? It's just window dressing? Bull S**t .friggin' cry babies will never stop and let some of us enjoy the product we choose to use. Personally I think that sucks and it's always the same folks. Inconsiderate to the max.

If you are referring to me as one of those 2 in your contentless finger pointing you'll note that I have never said a container to pull functionality of the key controls in a chain and putting them up front was a bad thing.  I actually called it progress, and how somebody can spoil your enjoyment of a product indicates something lacking in you not anyone else.

You have a positive view that's fine by me but senseless personal attacks on specific contributors here is the problem not differing views.  I'll refrain hurling names also, although I notice you have allowed yourself that priviledge here, the one time I did that to get even elsewhere I got banned for it.

Keep attacking, I'll keep defending because, I refuse be misrepresented by anyone, you or anyone else, especially when they haven't even bothered to note what has actually been said just for merely having what appears to be a differing opinion.

If you think that could become tedious then you always have the option of buttoning it and you'll notice it all stop.

Check it at the source.

Is it just me, or do the custom knobs on the FXC2.0 GUI not follow the settings when you change the knob on the plugin itself?  For example, say I create a custom knob on the FXC interface and assign it to a VST's filter's cutoff.  The custom knob controls the cutoff perfectly; however, if I open the filter itself and change the cutoff, the custom knob does not follow the settings.  Anybody else seeing this?

Confirmed here Dave.   There's no latching, ie, no two-way communication apparently.

That is the intended behavior. In the future if we expand the feature to do multiparam control it wouldn't make sense to follow the effect UI since a knob may be associated with multiple params for different fx.

That makes sense, indeed.

Though it begs the question -- couldn't there be an optional two way communication (which would be overridden if there's a multi-param involved) for single param knobs?

But the other way around. I've noticed that usually the plugin window doesn't update when turning the knobs. This should be possible, no? However, I've seen this happens some times. Don't remember if it happened when using automation and/or on what specific plugins I used. I just haven't really checked. But it would be nice to see the controlers move on the Plugin window when turning a knob in the FX Chain 2.0 GUI.

Make sure that you are streaming audio to the plugin (turn on effect tails or input monitoring)
That should work. This might be plugin specific as well. Ill investigate. Prior to fxchains unless you were using ACT there was no way to change a plugn parameter from an independent knob so this might not have been that obvious.

Billy is also reporting better experiences with expanded so perhaps there is something in it. Who knows with software though, you've only got to look at the vastly different experiences of users since X1's release to be completely confused.

It's good to see you around the forum again Billy. Always a sane voice among much of the madness & bickering, of which I've been guilty too. I hope X1 carries on working well for you. Computers and software are certainly fickle, head scratching inducing devices sometimes.

Thank you for your kind words, as always, Karl.  This forum is also better off because of your participation and contributions as well!

I try to avoid interacting with users who do not exhibit a modicum of intelligence and reasonableness;  it keeps me out of trouble and it keeps the blood pressure normal lol.

As for X1 -- what's great about Expanded having made such a huge difference in the stability here and allowing me to run X1 on my main system (which is still XP 32 bit as you know), is that it means I don't have to RUSH to get a full blown / solid new system up and running just to accommodate one application (X1).   So I can take my sweet time in putting together a new system leisurely.

Time is always precious and limited, so having X1E running on my main system now takes away some pressure.

And being able to use X1 on a regular basis means I'll be able to dig in deep (as I always like to do) and also be able to help others when time allows.

I, of course, would still like to see more of the bugs and workflow issues addresses ASAP by Cake, so I hope we'll all continue to put some upward pressure on them to do so.

In the meanwhile, there's music to make ...  and I'll be doing just that in a little while :D

Thanks again Karl.

Okay....I purchased the bundle with Expanded, PC4k gate/expander and Z3ta+2.......I love the fact that now the modules in pro channel can be collapsed, etc.

Never used the original effects chains...I listened to the ones that came with this update...pretty interesting...was it worth $119? I think so......

Noel Borthwick - "Make sure that you are streaming audio to the plugin (turn on effect tails or input monitoring) That should work. This might be plugin specific as well. Ill investigate. Prior to fxchains unless you were using ACT there was no way to change a plugn parameter from an independent knob so this might not have been that obvious" ---------------------------------------------------- A- ha, gotcha. No biggie really. Just curious. I noticed it while playing with an FX Chain that had the Sonitus Gate inserted. Thanks for clearing that up. Haven't tried what you explain but I will.
