mjs, I've been reading more of the books and experimenting. if your tool bars are set up as default , I found the far top right set useful for this sort thing,

the MSR buttons and the one beside it for input echo on / off, for global things.

maybe a short cut can be assigned to it

(as you can tell.. I've got a lot of reading STILL to do)

Is there an option anywhere to disarm a track for recording when another becomes armed? In other words, to record only 1 track at a time -- especially in MIDI.

mjs,

Have you tried checking "allow midi recording without an armed track" in Global options. Of course this only works with midi, but then you can just jump from track to track without worrying arming tracks at all. This is my preferred method of working with midi, and you can only record on one track at a time this way.

Wow, such a simple solution to such an entertaining thread.   MJS I hope your life's mission is no longer necessary.  I agreed with your post entirely, and I was one of those forget-to-disarm people.  The "allow midi recording without an armed track" function just arms the track automatically when you record, removing the need to mess with arming at all.  I'm sorry you had to take the heat, but I'm very thankful for your post because it saved me some time to find that function.
