Automation Tips?

Sonar seems to have a pretty "iffy" envelope editor.  But I want to know, what's the easiest way to go about editing envelopes. 

I have successfully created envelopes by turning on Write Automation either through the console view and tweaking them as I record.  I can then go back to the Tracks Pane and edit the envelopes that I created.

However, as an FL Studio user, I'm hearing about cool, intuitive ways to automate CC data like Image-line's Fruity Formula Controller.  This is cool because it will send CC data to any 2 knobs that you choose continuiously.  I tried loading this plugin into Cakewalk, and it didn't seem to recognize the plugin. 

I'm setting up a template, so I'm wondering how to go about incorporating automation into my template.  What are your success stories on the most efficient automation editing?  Are there any alternatives to Fruity Formula Controller?  Thanks in advance.
