That's more like it but less. As I said above, unless you have a specific gain problem, lower end electronics aren't going to improve the sound for the most part. A nice (read expensive) piece of hardware can impart some nice sound quality to track even without being used as a comp or doing Eq etc. So, unless you have a techical reason to go through a comp during recording, the software stuff is likely to be as good, if not better.
I haven't heard the mx, so I'm loath to make a judgement on how you'd find it. I do know my Komit comp/limiters are useful with a limiter after the comp, allowing all kinds tricks.
