One word: stability, stability, stability!  That doesn't mean it hasn't crashed on me, but much, much less that 8.5.3.

See, until I made the mistake of making this post, 8.5.3 doesn't crash on my systems. I have a 4 year old laptop that I record huge projects with and no crashes or serious weirdness. I load X1 at the same latencies and it gets strange.

I don't think 8.5.3 EVER crashed on me......

I think I'm going back there....but this current project uses a few ProChannels....I'm gonna struggle to get that into 8.5.3...but it looks like I will have to.

The arguements get tedious after a while. Now you're going to do a backwards import to 8.5.3 with the pro channel enhancements. Not much different from a bounced track with external processors on the pre side.

ROFL

Mine should have no problem:

Q9550
P5QL-E
8Gb 1066 DDR2 RAM
RME HDSP9632
nVidia 9800GT 1Gb
Several 1TB/2TB SATA HDD all 7200rpm....
Win7 Pro x64

It was rock solid crash free for 8.5.
Even V-vocal and audiosnap quantise worked in 8.5.
X1 was fine until today ( first session using mostly audio rather than MIDI)...and it's shown it's true colours as an incompetent piece of 'art and design' that FAILS miserably to deliver the claimed functionality.
CW should be ashamed to release such immature code on its customers.

Anyone interested in doing some mixing? - 10Ten
September 12, 10 8:58 AM ( #1 ) 0 responses

I'm not very happy with some of my mixes and would like to see a different take on them. You need a high enough speed connection to get the files, be better than me (easy) and be willing to talk about letting me use the mixes as I see fit (crediting you of course). This is a possible paying gig as I have a deal working and my time is better spent writing than mixing. Let me know. 10Ten

10Ten,
I see no one has shown interest in mixing your hits.
Maybe  posting the songs and the rate of pay per mix would draw more attention.
<Update>
In the past 10(Ten) minutes, there are quite a few members in the Songs Forum willing to mix for you.
Good luck with the paying gig, as they seem to be hard to come by.
The creme always floats to the top.
Great stuff!!!

I love the Skylight interface in general.  For me a much easier way to get around.  I don't know if I'll ever need the screenshots.  As I learn the keyboard shortcuts everything I need is instantly accessible so far.

I also love the new smart tool. As I get to know it I realize how much smarter it really is.

I just finished my first vocal recording session.  Not one crash and the workflow was already faster and more satisfying than 8.5.3.  This thing really rocks!

I recommend the Groove3 free training videos - this has helped me understand and appreciate the design of X1 even more.

Positively Charged
  • I also like screensets, but they take a few seconds to switch.  Hopefully they will be made faster in an upcoming update.

Try disabling your floppy disk controller in your BIOS. No I'm not kidding, for some bizarre reason this will fix that particular problem. I thought it was a joke too untill I tried it. My screenset changing went from several seconds to instant.

I hadn't had a chance to play with with the first service pack until this vacation.

THANK YOU CAKEWALK for putting in some key bindings for my Mackie Control Pro. Being able to select screen sets from the function buttons kicks ass, and is better than they way I used to bind console/track, etc.

I also recorded 10 audio tracks for about 2.5 hours and X1 never so much as hiccuped, so stability concerns are off my list for the moment.

I like the Inspector...In 8.5.3 I was switching a lot between TV and CV.  Now I just stay in the default with the Inspector doing the console for me.  Also must admit I like the description field too.  used to use a notebook for this now its right in the Inspector!
I also like the Pro Channel.  Use the gloss EQ on the Master Bus!

I for one actually like the new interface.  I don't do a lot of MIDI or Loops, mostly Audio tracking and mixing.  Have not tried it live yet.

My machine is NOT up to par with the requirements, but have loaded 16+ audio tracks with plug-ins and no drop outs.  I AM running X1a with ASIO drivers (Presonus FirePod Interface is the only one I have tested thus far).

A couple of unknown (not catestrophic file destroying) crashes have occurred, but I could not tie it to anything specific.

All in All an impressive upgrade even though there are issues.  Ever seen a bug free program?

SPLAT on a Home built i3 16 GB RAM 64-bit Windows 10 Home Premium 120GB SSD (OS) 2TB Data Drive.  Behringer XR-18 USB 2.0 Interface. FaderPort control.
