Wow...I had thoughts of using a** but in the interest of either real or imagined board etiquette I decided against that one,of course there is posterior and "squash clown" also comes to mind. I guess you guys call it a bum and we call a bum someone who is lazy or who drinks too much.....I have known people named Fanny and I have always thought that was a most uncomfortable name. In the deep south here in the states where I am from originally we "mash" a gas pedal instead of step on an accelerator and those are differences between different areas of the US. Here in the northeast we say,"you guys" even if there are women present. In the south we say,"ya'll". The way the same words roll off the tounge is even different depending on where you come from.......the hip hop and gangsta revolution even bring more confusion to this. Something can be "wack" and I have been called a "dawg" which I took offensively at the time. In many ways the language is devolving. Hollywood continues to pump out filth that would have everyone thinking that all Americans can't say two words without an expletive. Admittedly they are out there but most of us think that is just plain crude and classless.

LOL! Yeah for better or worse the fork in the road started back when the English first settled, from that point on things have been changing.Maybe some of that came from the settlers desire to be independent from the king and his grip, making their own rules...

Twigman I would say Geordie is a language in itself. My family are from Sunderland (Mackem country) and Newcastle. Geordie has it's own grammar and its own vocabulary and when spoken by a fluent speaker is incomprehensible to anyone from ouside the region. Geordies would refute that it is merely a dialect of Englsh. I've had enough so Ah'm gannin yem - [would you say that was English? I wouldn't, it's Geordie] Maybe linguists should look at Geordie and consider appointing it a distinct formal language then? (It certainly sounds like it might qualify). There can be books written in it and University courses teaching it. But it's spoken in England so does that make it part of English - as it's the "language of the English people"? How does this argument hold up when applied to Cockney or Estuary? It doesn't. Anyway, it's like trying to argue that the sky is flesh-tone. U.S. English is a Standard Dialect of the English language. It's not really a debatable point - any more than the English language has 26 letters or that water is wet.

I think he did. Your arse is your behind, your derriere, your bum. Your ass is the cattle/mule/donkey that carries your heavy load. Nope. "Ass" is slang for a "behind/bum/posterior". Much as it can be used as slang for an obstinate person. Saying "Shake that arse" (with the pronounced "r") would sound ridiculous. Groove Armada - an English band - has a popular song called "I see you baby" with the chorus that says "I see you baby...shakin' that ass". I highly doubt they meant that they saw a girl shaking a donkey. This all of course depends on your pronunciation of the word. If it's just a spelling difference and not a pronunciation difference, well...then it's just that.

You don't give up do you? Are you really making the case that you didn't know what he meant, and have never ever heard anyone use the word that way before? Not in any movie, or song? Have you been living under a particularly English rock? Yes, clearly, it is an American usage, I'm not arguing that, but I really find it obtuse to pretend to not understand people when they use English in different ways than you do, even though you know perfectly well what they mean. You accused me of not having a sense of humour before, so let me ask you: is this your only joke? Because I hate to break it to you, it's more irritating than funny.

An ass is a beast of burden. Right - and I don't think Starise/Tim is English (American maybe?). So why tell him that you think he meant "arse"? Americans use "ass" for posterior. So when I said I didn't think he meant "arse" I was correct. This "correcting" I can only imagine is part of a quixotic crusade against anything other than UK English being referred to as "English". And it's ridiculous to use an Americanism (i.e. fanny for bum)? You do know that English people use plenty of Americanisms right? I'll bet you use them too although you just may not be aware of it. Words and phrases jump the Atlantic back and forth and have done so for decades if not centuries.

Yes Brandon I live here in the good ol' US of A! Different strokes, guys different strokes! I see that I never need go anywhere else for meaningful entertainment than the Cakewalk MB :0). Hey about my original problem- After pulling my keyster out of the chair I downloaded X1b thinking that just MAYBE the whole thing would be a bad dream and I would wake up with a functioning copy of X1 so I can actually start to make some music!!!!!! I really rather enjoy music and recording it so much more than downloading software and working through one glitch or another until I can realize my goal. Needless to say after going through a lot of win 7 tweaks recommended by CW, and some of you other geniuses. After downloading X1b and prior to that spending the good part of a night downloading those 2.5gb files I am closer to the goal but not there yet............I only took enough time this past weekend to visit the porcelain throne, the head,the.....well you understand(I hope,Lord do I!!)....so the next step was to order a different Firewire other than the via chipset one I now have.I ordered a card with the TI chipset. If that doesn't solve my problem at least I'll know what it likely ISN'T! Oh,and all those people who call a car hood a bonnet are wacky:)........Hows about a glass of concord sweet or maybe a beer or do you call it an ale?? Whatever...no overindulgence you understand, I just need to get the heck out of here for awhile or I'll need an upgrade!
