rbowser Cakewalk decided, for reasons still mysterious to me, to hand the program over to a new team which had apparently been itching to gut it and make it the most arcane, clumsy piece of software ever unleashed on an unsuspecting public. They certainly succeeded at doing that. Randy B. Really??? I mean, c'mon. If you really feel that way, then why are you still even here? Man, this forum has really degenerated. It's like reading the comments about political stories on MSN with the "Dumbocrats" calling out the "Rethuglicans" and "Teabaggers" and vice versa. What a shame.

I must advise you by all kinds to avoid to say you just like to use X1 - don't do that! Because when you do, you will be insulted, called a liar, painted as unprofessional, accused for not using the program fully and being accused as the one that is holding beck improvements because you not complain hard enough. Believe me - this is what will been thrown at you when you do not take my advise. Only thing I can promise you you wont be burned on a stake..........yet......I think...

What a shame to see the credibility of great company such as Cakewalk fall to an all time low by not keeping users informed and by adopting Roland's model for customer service.

I can't believe or understand why a Cake member hasn't atleast jumped on this thread to say it's coming or apologise for the delay. I read the 'more info on X1C in late July' as just that, Cake will have more info on what will be implemented in X1C when it is released. I'm not expecting any patch, just information on whats being addressed or what direction Cake is taking X1 in. I'm sure there are users in this thread who (unlike myself) have been with Cakewalk since day dot, have spent a fortune, attended seminars / workshops or even met the bakers at NAMM etc. So to not even receive any kind of update from the company is pretty shameful. "we're working on it" - "it's coming" - "apologies for the delay" anything? Just my thoughts

Never felt this way about my trusted expediters CW. X1 is such a disappointment as it stands for me. I'm not even gone to deep into it but without colours its just horrible to have to pull away from thoughts too see where your softsynth is for example. Folder Indents? why would you ever need to remove that? No expanded EP plot when editing pro channel I could go on.... and on. Shame to say it but I'm starting to doubt my marriage with CW. I'm hanging in for the next counseling session. It scares me to think of a divorce... :<

Mystic38 I can completely agree with you there.. and in fact your statement it doesnt contradict my primary comment that IMO its the change in the UI that was most needed from the development... clearly there were unwanted side effects.. there is no doubt that a stable, realtively bug free product is the goal for users (and assumedly manufacturers too)...unfortunately there is the irrational urge from (insert software company name here) for a new version to be introduced almost every year ..clearly to skim the upgrade fee... or to react to *new* versions by competitors and yet the products are too complex for this to rationally occur without two development teams.. not a good approach IMO Assuming a stable (mostly bug free) product then personally a 24-36mo cycle and a higher upgrade fee would be a happier trade for me cheers Keni Mystic38 Well... IMO, the use of a DAW by musicians both good, alleged or pretend musicians has increased but has also evolved in terms of market attributes....such that i would hazard a guess that 4 years ago there were very very few folks using a laptop..and now?.. plenty. There is a applicable saying that states"if where you are going wont get you there, then stop and change direction." gutting 8.5.3 and starting from scratch with the UI is exactly the bold move that Sonar needed.. Is it perfect?.. no.. Is it a BETTER foundation for ongoing product development than 8.5.3.. you betcha and lastly...does anyone HAVE to upgrade?..no Seems like everyone should be happy.. the release of x1 did not make the older program cease to function for any 8.5.3 "power user" ... but the release of x1 DID make the program more accessible and understandable for new customers... While this thinking is "sound"... It needs to adjust to the thought that some of us are forced to upgrade for FIXES.... I don't need new features near as much as I need things fixed/adjusted and staying with 8.5.3 will never get fixed.... That's the rub! Keni Interesting thought, but it won't happen.... Cakewalk has always had a need to release once a year for income if nothing else. The business model requires the release to generate the needed income for the year. Without it, there wouldn't be enough cash flow to support those involved.... They release upgrades thru the year as well... for free... and the updates aren't 'just' fixes.... they also include new features and ideas.... so the yearly release makes this possible. Keni

Good customer service perhaps? I mean - X1C is a required patch to fix some of the issues with the companies product, it is already the 3rd major update, most customers have already had to wait 8 months to have these issues addressed (assuming they will who knows what's coming), a date has been given for information on the future fixes, that date has been and gone. Next step for any company worth is salt would be to let its customers know whats going on. I'm just saying it would be nice for Seth, Brendon, Zyler or someone to give a brief update on where they're at. Again that's just how I feel

or perhaps (I hope) they are making sure x64rewire works as they perhaps had not anticipated the props releasing it in September? or perhaps (I hope) they have finally fixed the V-Vocal in large RAM use projects and are just making sure that it works..... I live in hope but am preparing myself for the disappointment of discovering that only one or neither of the above have been sorted......

mike_mccue Maybe Friday Keni? It's gonna be epic!!! Hi Mike... Epic for sure! This has to be the most 'unusual' release for them... sorry I couldn't come up with a better word than unusual, but there are too many adjectives running thru my brain to pick one... More than I can remember from any other relasese... Many users "loyalty" resting on it... they have to be feeling even more pressure than ever before. I can understand and I'm even willing to accept the "need" for the gui change tho I didn't need it at all (at this point - Maybe I'd feel differently if I could afford one, two, three widescreen monitors instead of my little 19"). I'm even doing my best to be calm and patient... Two things very alien to me... ...and I'm also tired of the self-imposed need to be online here at the forum making issues of so many things. I really would prefer to be working on my music all that time but I believe it's important for me/us to be here discussing these things so that the company sees how many and how severely these issues are affecting their users... I long for the release with hopes that it might settle down many of these issues and we can get back to music! Keni

Brandon: afterwards, when you'll score up each column of the things cakewalk did right and the things cakewalk did wrong and claim that all in all cakewalk is working efficinyly and reliably towards its customers remember this issue(and it's not a 1st of it's kind). All you guys had to do is on the 31/7 say:"Sorry guys, it'll will take a lil' longer to realease this info" The majority of the customers base would understand and apperciate the direct approach and the fact that you guys probebly work hard to get x1c out. So what's up with ignoring the subject and this thread specificly? cakewalk has become the infantile ostrich the sticks its head in the ground and thinks it makes it dissapear. well guess what? it doesn't. (and this is all coming from someone who's strongly against the whole flaming mentality and the -IM-ANGRY-CAKEWALK-BUGA-BUGA-BRING-BACK-8.5.3 approach)

I don't think it's 'many users loyalty' that is in the balance. More like one or two dozen extremely vocal forum members. This is absolutely hilarious. It's like Cakewalk personally kicked all of your dogs or something.

Interesting thought, but it won't happen.... Keni I'm thinking that maybe X1 could be the release that would break that trend. If they have enough new users from other platforms buying product at full price then they wouldn't need their established customers to get them over by purchasing a yearly upgrade. This is why they are trying to attract new users at ,what some would suggest, the expense of the user base. (IOW, the complete overhaul of the GUI) If you could attract new sales, I'm thinking you could switch to a two year cycle with free updates that would hit you at a higher upgrade cost. Basically, for establish users it would be a wash. But this is just a theory of mine. But.... My beef is with the company saying they are going to do something in a given time frame and then failing to deliver on time. In this case, it is just information of what X1c will contain. They said that more information would be posted in late July. Where's the info? How hard is information to provide? My only explanation is that a major bullet point item is seriously busted and they can't decide whether to include it or not.

All those extra display monitors mess with your sound... it's not a good solution to inefficient GUI design. If I was drawing pretty pictures or tracking the stock market it would be one thing... I'd use one of my multi monitor systems. I'm not putting up a bunch of flat screen reflection baffles right between my sound monitors so that they can cause a bunch of nulls and make me wanna go out and buy the ARC™ for $600 just to fix the mess caused by a wall of display monitors. That's a path I'm not going down. :-) all the best, mike

I'm sure the comb filtering coming off the reflection of my 24 channel board or (in my current set up) my midi controller would be just as much a consideration. In my new desk configuration that I modified a week ago, I don't believe my LED monitors are any more of a problem than any of a dozen other random things in the path of a sound wave. We're talking a home studio here, not a 2 million dollar set up.
