IMO when a sale is on, you gotta buy, not decide.

Ya I called them and they said you bought the last one and the sale was only good for June. You got lucky I guess.

I'm still waiting to hear from Softube's official distributor, to see what kind of price he can get me.

Well ha ha ha, I found that they are available on E-Bay for $59.99. So I ordered one already.

The official distributor still hasn't called me back so I went ahead and bought it before the rest of you guys buy them out from under me !!

Well what they sent me is a download code to give to Softube, which in turn they notify iLok, and you download the demo, and then download your iLok license to your iLok. I did all that and now I'm all set. It's running like a champ !!

It's not bad for $60. Not the same as Valhalla (which is good) but IMO same kind of value per $.

Re:Opinions on Best Vocal Reverb Plugin 2012/07/05 15:25:53 (permalink)
Well for $60 I don't think I'll get a better reverb unit. It's pretty nice sounding, works in Pro Channel, and doesn't cost $200-$250 like some other quality reverbs cost. The $60 price fits well in my budget and won't break the bank. I'll get the reverb sounds I was looking for, and a new Pro Channel module.

Like I said, the Vallhalla Room reverb is a bit too much reverb for me...if I was into making relaxation or meditation cd's that'd be a different story, but I don't have any luck selling those. I had some ambient music posted at one time, but there was zero interest in it. I thought it sounded cool, but nobody else like it at all. So I don't bother with the ambient stuff anymore.

Valhalla Room excels at small ambiences. Try the Tiled Room preset as a starting point.

I don't have a trial version of Valhalla Room. I just heard some demo's that were posted on the internet.

I'm sure it sounds very good, but I just did some more sound tests with the TSAR-1R on some dry reference recodings I have. All I can say is the TSAR-1R is one sweet sounding reverb. Oh Ya...

Ten bucks for a Pro Channel module option is a bargain.

I'll tell ya, my Pro Channel is really getting sweet. I just did a sound check on a really weak dry drum kit. I spruced it up with all the stuff in my Pro Channel, and now it sounds killer....the difference is night and day.

So how about the reverbs that come with Sonar X1?

So how about the reverbs that come with Sonar X1?

I found them harder to use than the TSAR-1R. Also the Sonitus reverb would occasionally cause the program to crash or distort the audio when used in conjunction with the Pro Channel. I still get a distored audio track once in a while and anything I can do to alieviate that is welcome. I've found that the quickest solution when I get a distorted track is to close Sonar and re-open it. That usually fixes the problem. Yes it's annoying but it only happens once in a great while.

I'm finding that it's much quicker to dial up a great sound with the TSAR-1R. And I love the fact that's it's in the Pro Channel. It's just so simple to understand and use, AND it sounds great !!

I agree with you, and I find it a bit strange that a really good reverb effect seems to be such a low priority for Cakewalk.

I don't feel that way at all, I mean that Cakewalk and Softube are working in conjunction with plug-ins for the Pro Channel. Do a little research and you'll find that Softube is a pretty cool company with lot's of associates of well known brands in the music industry. Just check out this impressive page of their partners....http://www.softube.com/index.php?p=partners

Ya you have to pay a little extra to get the good stuff, but it's worth it. Check the prices of hardware reverbs lately ?? You won't get much for $60 bucks.

What's surprising is that there aren't more third party companies coming up with Pro Channel modules, they must think it's already been covered or maybe the market is too small for a big product development investment.

Just tried the Valhalla Reverb tonight.. sounds nice!  Not quite as sweet as the Lexicon PCM but I will find things to use it on.  Next on the list is definitely the UAD2 card ; )

Intel i7-4770 -  3.9GHZ DDR3  -  32GB RAM
Sonar Platinum
Presonus Studio 192
Motu 2408 MK3
Waves v9
Spectrasonics Omnisphere, Stylus RMX, Trilion
Novation V-Station, Gladiator, ReFX Nexus, Lounge Lizard, Alchemy

You see the Lexicon PCM and the UAD2 are both way out of my budget. So I have to be happy with what I can afford and will actually use. The TSAR-1R fits that bill for me.
