JazzSinger I'm pretty surprised how many people DO prefer the PC! I wonder: how many are using a laptop? I struggle daily with the way it takes up so much space. I feel for you. I'm sure I'd use it less if I were viewing on anything smaller than 1900x1080, 24"...

Concrete limiter on the master bus (may be changing to Voxengo Elephant soon though) and EQ on most tracks/buses, that's about it.

After hearing what it does to my mediorce recordings, I don't want to be without it. Just basic recordings, nothing special, sound like a million bucks after being run thru Pro Channel. It gives me so many wonderful options on how to shape my music... It's a must have for me now. Studio magic.

I use it for EQ, compression, and occasionally saturation. I haven't bought any of the additional modules and have no plans to, any thing else I just use the FX bin. Dan

Even if the Pro Channel worked as advertised and I could actually use it reliably, I still wouldn't use it all that much. The EQ is basically useless except as a lo/hi slope. Too hard to see and manipulate the frequencies, everything else that's included with it can be done with existing tools that already come with Sonar. The only thing that sounds better than anything that Sonar already comes with, in my opinion, is the PC2A comp/limiter. The limiting side of it sounds great to me, but comp side, I can achieve that with Sonitus. I'm still voting for an option to be able to uninstall it and get rid of it just like I can do with all the other plug-in's I don't want to use in the Producer edition.

I think if you don't click on it, it doesn't use resources and of course you won't see it. It works as advertised from what I can tell. The eq gui is smallish, but it sounds great. I wish it popped-out to a larger window. For real surgical eq, I use prochannel sometimes and sometimes something else. It gets used on every channel that needs a high pass filter. As for adding character, it is my favorite at this point with the different flavors we can select. The PC2a is great like you mentioned and I would also plug a vote for the saturation knob as being a top-notch. The buss compressor is really good as well. From my perspective, we have top quality plugs that rivals most anything out there and they ship with Sonar. To me it's like cutting your nose off to spite your face to not use it.

In X1 it shrinks to about 1/5th its original width, still taking up about 5% of my screen width. Besides, I want use it, not hide it! I run a mobile demo rig (laptop) and to me X1 has been a very unhappy development.

The inspector definitely disappears completely and the console view is the width it is regardless of whether the PC is there or not.

same here as everybody else - I'm still moving from 7 to x1, but I don't think I've put any fx in the bin except for UAD processing on the vocals and master bus for my X1 stuff so far. I'm still on x1c, though, and the non-scalable graphics coupled with the lack of a vertical scroll bar make it way less usable than it could be, not to mention all the propietary wrapping around the embedded VST's. The MCU problems are serious holdups as well. It does work with ACT, though, and you can come pretty close to Automap/MCU type functionality with some creative use of Novation templates, though that was several days of work I would not have done if it would just work with either MCU or Automap. I imagine it's work most users won't do, also, and better surface integration is definitely in order, Cake. ACT is way cool, but it is not as cool as Automap. Since you know this and consider Automap a competitor to ACT and therefore won't embrace it, compromise and give us MCU support. Pleeeeease?

Am I doing something wrong, then? If I press "I", it does not disappear. It shinks to a bar with the text "Inspector" written vertically along its length. In 8.5 it definitely disappears totally.

Not something wrong, it's just a different way of working. You have it docked by the sounds of it so it shows as a bar on the side of the screen. If you float it, (click top left corner when it's open) then it will disappear completely and you can move it wherever you want it. I've now got myself away from the inspector down the left, which is where I always had it previously, and now think of it as a giant right click menu on steroids so I position it about 75% of the way across to the right and hide it. As soon as I want something in it like properties, PC tweak, or whatever I just press I, use it then hide it again. If you want it on the left but not docked hold the ctrl key while postioning it and it won't dock. The down side of non docking is it won't shift the track header but sit on top of it. HTH.

I use Pro Channel and the FX Bin. I like the option to use either. I'm still getting it used to it with the VS-700, though. Love the EQ!

There's a Cakewalk video on YouTube that really showcases the ease-of-use and workflow of the Pro Channel; it's the 2nd Beatscape tutotial. I found it inspirational and it increased my own use of the PC. You'll find it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhDokH-NgoE
