So now you're argueing over a phone, next thing you know there will be a dicussion about apple vs. pc

Happens a lot doesn't it?

Sure , next its PT/reaper versus Sonar... geez...

Or Mooch vs Bapu ..that you mentioned.

Up here it can be Roundup vs Organic....

Roundup is "organic" but it is also a toxin.

It's an organic toxin.

that would be a nonsense comparison, sonar is way better - you touch and have a response right a way and all these apps on it...

I upgraded to OS 6 on my iphone 4 . I really have no reason to trade it in yet. I certainly am not waiting in line for an iphone 5.

My wife had an old iphone and got the 4S. She is seriously considering turning it in after the 30 day trial for a 5 because she heard about the camera and she loves to take pictures. I have a gps app in my iphone that I use a lot and so the new maps were not as much of a draw. I find myself using it in place of my computer a lot though.I use it for a LOT of different things.

I am a little miffed that Apple has decided to change the charger port. I just bought a decent stereo for my nightstand and now I will need to buy another 39.00 adapter to use the new phone in it when I replace mine.

Re:I almost ordered an i-phone 5 but... 2012/09/25 12:06:35 (permalink)
I picked up my iPhone 5 on 8/21, but I didn't wait in line, spend much money, or expend much effort to do so.  I pre-ordered a few days before because my contract was up on my previous iPhone.  I was notified on Thursday (8/20) that my phone would be available to pick up on Friday.  I was free first thing that morning, so I went in at 8:00, picked it up, and brought it home.

I didn't have to spend much on the upgrade because I traded in my old phone a few days before.  (I used an old flip phone in the meantime.  Absolute Torture.)

There are things I don't like about the iPhone, but there are more things I do like.  Some of my family have newer Android phones and they are very fond of them.  I'm comfortable with the iPhone, so it's more intuitive for me.  I haven't had any problems with the maps, battery life, or some of the other complaints.

When you tell Siri to start calling you, "Stupid Idjit", she will.

I have an iPhone and an iPad2.  They are sleek, elegant and, by and large, they work as promised.  But I hate the entire Apple closed system.  With a passion.  I'll be going Android soon.  Just thought I'd give ol Apple a try.  To me, it feels like being caught in quicksand and pretending its a hip way to croak.  YMMV.

I promised myself I wouldn't say anything else in this dead-horse-beating thread... But because you're my ol' pal...  I just read someing about how only 5% of Android phones are ACTUALLY running the official version of Nexus/Jellybean or what have you, because the cell phone companies have taken advantage of the open platform and filled them up with proprietary bloat.  I don't have anything at ALL against Android, understand... In fact, I like the open framework idea... But there IS something to be said for knowing what you are getting from both the phone and any app you may use.   I'll see if I can find the article... I think it was in this month's Wired.

Correction: the article states that it's an issue with hardware providers installing proprietary software, not the phone companies.

Ah.  Here it is.

So, the "death to proprietary software" thing isn't all it's cracked up to be according to this.  Again, I'm not arguing... I just had read this only yesterday, and thought I'd pass it n.

FYI this is silly article not reflecting the actual truth.   As I said before android and windows are systems for more technical people knowing what they're doing. If you don't I agree Apple is better. End of story.

Oh. Ok. So my positon as a Systems Trainer and Project Manager for an Oracle-based data management system at the University level is equally silly and un-technical, I'm sure.

Whatever, dude.  Just because you don't like it or the culture that surrounds it (and I suspect that's the real issue here) doesn't mean it isn't valid.

I'm one of those dim bulbs that wouldn't care whose product I was using...the minute they told me, as Apple has, that I HAVE to use their backup, folder, update, you name it system and no other with that product then I'm like "frack you and the horse you rode in on".  But I'm a rebel, Dottie...a loner.

Really does not matter to me..after all, who else on this planet would go for a WebOS based Palm Pre 2 phone months before it was announced that HP would discontinue the thing?

By the way, this phone now has the entire PDF of the Sonar X2 manual in it..and it can be accessed....so there...hmmmmph.

I didn't say that about you in particular, just in general  so don't take offense. BTW some teens today are more technical then many college level fellows. Also I didn't say that as necessary bad thing, close systems have their advantages as well.

Usually, if you're technical at all, you should be able to root your Android device and then you won't have to worry about any bloatware.

(Just sayin'...)
