Hi piangio, I don't think Sidroe was getting at you at all with his post that followed immediately after yours. As I read it I think he is just expressing a general positiveness regarding X2 compared to other releases. :-)

Did a mix project prior to the QF 308. Had two instances of Breverb 1 on a bus, 1 on a sub group in the PC modules plus console emulation on the master bus...crash city every time I would click from the buses back to the track. I also noticed that the PC modules were not displaying properly the deeper I got into things as well.  After the 6th crash I had to reboot and abandon X2 for X1. This was Friday night and I went home very frustrated.

Installed the quickfix this past Saturday AM and have been using X2 non stop with the same configuration mentioned above.....rock solid now and the PC modules display correctly. So I'm quite happy overall with things in X2.

BTW I'm using the 64 bit version.

I think everyone is missing the point here. One of the drawbacks of the PC computers is that there are so many different variations. In turn, some will and some won't have problems. That's the advatage Apple has over PC but honestly, why would anyone want an Apple computer?

So, is this thread pointless? Just run the program and hope for the best.

Notation, the original DAW. Everything else is just rote. We are who we are and no more than another. Humans, you people are crazy.

Hmmm.... I think I have missed out on the DimPro and Rapture installation errors. I had them both installed before I installed X2 - and all is functional and working extremely well!

I had one experience with PC modules missing their GUI, but that was on the same day the quick fix came out. Not seen it since I installed it. I've had two or three crashes but since the quick fix there's been none so far . There's been some weird behaviour, but I haven't been able to locate it. But nothing have interupted my workflow at all. After the quick fix, I find X2 to be 100% reliable so far. not only that, it makes X1 feel like a dinosaur!!

Zo, I too am still on the fence about purchasing X2. I mean it won't improve my engineering capabilities any better. I guess I am waiting to hear a stable testimony from the die hard fan of X2. Peace

Many of the improvements are geared to improve the workflow so that we should be able to balance the focus more in favour of our actual sound engineering and away from the "mechanical" activities that can slow down creation of the music.

X2 will be great but I'm not confident to go into production with it yet. Mostly impressive enhancements that go smoothly but too many "funnies", more than with X1.

I'm a guitarist, not a scientist, recording audio/midi via SONAR Platinum.

I haven't upgraded yet- mostly because I use this software for a living and the rule of thumb is to not do "post beta testing" with mission critical software.  BUT I've been perusing this forum (and like someone else stated) there doesn't seem to be even close to the flaming there was on the X1 release- it got REAL nasty out here for that one.

My issue now is I'm on Vista and I'm not upgrading the current computer to Windows 7.  I'm gonna upgrade when I buy a new computer.

AND I've read X2 isn't compatable with Vista!  ...found that pretty strange...  ...so if that's the case I guess I'll wait.

Re:X2 after quik fixe : Verdict ? 2012/10/04 00:27:30 (permalink)
I'm new to SX2.  I'm mostly using files migrated from S8.5 and SX2 has been pretty buggy for me.

I've had clip envelopes freeze. A track that wouldn't resize vertically.  I've been unable to drag some clips.  I also had the pro channel bug that the update fixed.   Sx2 'forgot' some key bindings.  When I exited and restarted the program the bindings were still there.  There were also some issues of unwanted keystroke behaviors.

All the above bugs were fixed by re-opening and saving the file in S8.5.  When re-importing into SX2, everything seemed to work.

Nevertheless, I like SX2 and don't think I'll go back.  I always tell myself to wait for the 1st update and didn't follow my own advice!

Peace,

Ian

Re:X2 after quik fixe : Verdict ? 2012/10/04 01:07:35 (permalink)
The quickfix took care of two work flow interruptions I was having.

1. Console Emulation Modules disappearing. This required a restart to correct.
2. Sonitus EQ was copying itself into the FX bin after an opened project was saved the first time.  Once this happened and the project was saved again there was no way reverse it. I'm really happy this was corrected so quickly!

No crashes or lockups here at all. If you are on the fence about upgrading I strongly recommend you do so.

I've been remixing an old project here as practice to get to know the Console Emulation feature. I have to say this module has fundamentally changed the way I mix and the results I'm getting. I'm thrilled with what I'm hearing and the more I use it the more obvious the effect of the plug has on my mixes. Mixes gel easier, sound wider with smoother highs and lows. For me it took a little time to get use to the color it imposes on the sound but once I got my ears in tune with each type mixes have been blossoming.

The worst thing you can do is just slap it on all your tracks and buses of an existing mix and take a listen. Doing this may not always compliment your mix with the true potential of the plugin. You really have to start a mix with the module in place and make your decisions from there.  That's when you start to hear the magic. Once you are at that point then you can quickgroup your tracks and disable the CE and you will hear the cumulative affect it has on your mix.

To me this plug alone was worth the price of the upgrade from X1E. The upgrade cost is less than the top of the line 3rd party CE plugs out there like Slate VCC and the Waves stuff.

I've been a reverb slut for a long time. I'm now going to become a Console Emulation slut. Sweetwater was running a great deal on the Slate VCC at 149.00 and included the iLok2. I grabbed it since I wanted to get an iLok anyway for some other plugs I was interested in. I'm going to run some comparisons tonight but I will probably have to start a mix from the beginning with the Slate VCC as well to reach the full potential of the plug.

before...a lot of crashes...now...i didn”t detect anything wrong...

I must say THIS ^^^ was the deal with me too,X1D was as stable as I thought a complex piece of software could be,but on initial install of X2,I got crashes, from just opening projects, saving, closing projects, anyway,it turned out that my "initial" download install didn't install the CWAF,or the "soundcloud" app,so I tried the download "all over" again, and re-installing,this time everything turned up,and I think I got one more crash.

Then last Thursday[?] I noticed the "Quick Fix",and although the fixes, were not really what I was experiencing during the crashes I had, since installing the FIX,I don't think I could make "it" crash if I wanted too, everything is Totally Fine!

I installed X2[successfully after a second download]and I did NOT install D-Pro from X2,and Rapture installed,as part of the standard X2 install,but I left ALL of my X1 stuff,as it was EXACTLY,and now I have Rapture LE,as well as the FULL Rapture,and Dimension LE[from when I had X1 Studio]and Dimension Pro,and X2 just installs perfectly WITHOUT having to un-install ANYTHING,in fact "it's so easy,its almost funny",just MAKE SURE you download and install the"Quick Fix",I too have the disc's[arrived today-with a free gift],but my X2 is running perfect now,so I won't even be using those[free gift"yes"X2 install discs"no"]
Bob

PS To make "it" way easy,I wrote down my X2/Rapture "serials/reg.no's clearly before I ever downloaded anything, and although it may seem silly,"this" made it even easier......GO FOR IT!

For me: before quick fix- about 50 odd crashes.

after quickfix- completely rocksolid- 0 crashes.

I'm stoked.

I've only had 1 crash since X2 came out. Very happy and consider this the most stable major release ever. I've been able to get a lot of work done in a complicated setup over a long period of time. Can't ask for any more than that.
