I think I know what is causing the power spikes...I forgot about the heating/cooling and humidifier systems.
Every time the House heating system goes on, there is a spike in voltages...and the power surge bar should cope with that?....perhaps not?

Well I inquired about getting a secondary electrical Box Just for the 220 volt lines, and putting another service line in from the pole Just before winter hit...cost for Hydro to run the line is $300.00, Plus the electrician's cost per hour to install the box, put in the breakers, and move all the 220 wires over....could be $1,000.00 total cost to rule that out.

I forgot about turning off the heating system when playing with the computers, until I do so.....I hope that is it?

Yep, Power surges are surely causing some of the issues being noted here with cpu spiking in Sonar.

I guess that second service line has to be done...Cause surge Power Bars do not eliminate the power surge, even if the power line I am on is exclusive for Just my recording PC and desk...every time the heat goes on, I get a spike.

Funny how that the very thing the system runs on, is indirectly causing it to fail...eh?

hi there ...

this thread has gone way too long for me - stopped following around page 2 ...

BUT if it is power spkies that are causing you troubles, you have 2 options:
(A) get a second power line, which is totally separate from the power supply for the rest of the building (like you said) or ...
(B) put a (furman) power conditioner between your studio and the rest of the world (good ones sell for ~ 500 EUR here), should be cheaper in the US - definitely worth the investment as this thing provides surge protection and other features ...

I actually went for both options (A) and (B) and consider both definitely worth the effort; i'd bet it will not only elminate the spiking problem of yours, but it will also bring down the noise floor in your recording environment ...

Thank you FreeFlyBertl

I will look into this  "Furman "  more, now I have routed out most of the issues...(With Help)...And In taking care of all Variables, and routing them out of the equation ...I hope...My Studio will be sound, and will hopefully set sail soon!

1. I changed the fill in Corsair TX 750 Power supply, out to the new RMA AX860 which just came in Wednesday.

2. I put more Surge suppressing power bars online, connected two together, and put only computer and Audio desk on that second bar for now = more surge surpressing????.

3. I put all other external devices on the other surge power bars.. 3 bars.

4. I removed the Crucial M4 SSD, and replaced it with a WD black 1tb 64 cache sata 3.0 drive., and added another for backing up the C drive when all is installed and setup, and tested.

5. I put new Asus deluxe quad motherboard, with Thunderbolt in Sabertooth x58's Place , and connected it up to the Allen & health via firewire adapter, ...Not much tweaking in bios or OS ...(OK ALEX?)...and I left on all onboard gear in bios (but will tweak if needed in future)...And it works with internet.(unbelievable)..I was able to play around in Sonar, and view the online help....wonderful...no clicking or popping, no noise issues, no cpu spiking... Yet...So yes we are making progress here....I hope I can watch the video tutorials I bought while using Sonar on the same machine???...if not I may need to bring in a second PC Just to do that.

6. when weather permits.. I will turn off the heating / cooling / humidifier system when doing projects, while things are as they are..freak cold out side...I have to leave it on.

In the next month of Feb, I will do the electrical changes necessary to make it even more rock solid here.

I over spent on the new Mac Pro...LOL....So funds are limited .......

Till the Mac Pro arrives....Logic x, OS X maverick 10.9.1..boot camp... issues?... from what I am reading so far..yep!
So I am learning the does and don'ts on that as well.

More Mead will be required surely...As always to reduce Stress, hair loss and changing of its colour..

Best wishes to All.
