Is Windows maintenance up to date?
Was antivirus software running during either downloads or installs?
If uninstall of Sonar, were appropriate hidden folders removed as well as the registry keys?
Was a download manager used during downloads? (like Chrome, which has one built-in).

Hey StepD, I'm having the exact same problem, and submitted a support request to Cake over a week ago. Perhaps it will help Cake with troubleshooting that the difference between your Dependency Walker log and mine is that mine only contains the ieshims.dll as a problem, yours contains additional problem items. Maybe Cake should start by looking at the ieshims.dll since in my case that alone prevents proper operation?

Some errors in that log are ok however you definitely have a broken install. Based on the log you have an old version of MSVCR110.dll which is the Visual studio redistributable from Microsoft. For some reason the Microsoft installer must have failed on your machine. Do you recall an error message during install? Please download and update the latest Microsoft redist from here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30679 If the install is successful, dependency walker should not show anything in red in the tree on the top left that lists all the dlls. You may have to rescan your plugins to see session drummer again. Please report back if it solves your problem. A successful install should look like this in dependency walker. Note the version numbers for MSVCR110.dll.

Good one Noel, that worked. I definitely didn't get an error on the redistributable during SD3 install, and I actually don't think it installed the 2012 version; I think it was the 2005 or 2008 version (could be mistaken, though). It's pretty ridiculous how many different versions developers use at this point. I have 2005, 2008, 2010 and 2012 on my system now. :-)

I had also problem with Session Drummer in Sonar X3 under Windows 8. After several uninstall and install finally I installed from Sonar X2. Now is OK.
There must be some problem with Sonar.

The same thing also worked for me, but after updating the Microsoft redistributables, Session Drummer worked correctly when the X3 version is installed. I preferred to use the X3 installation, because the Session Drummer dll is larger, so I figured it might be an improved version. (I don't actually know if it is or isn't). So it doesn't appear that it's a Sonar problem ... It looks to be an issue of outdated redistributables from Microsoft. Perhaps Cake keeps up with the latest Microsoft updates while some of us (like me) have old or missing/corrupt redistributables. The older X2 software apparently is compatible with the older distributables I had on my system prior to updating, while X3 was not and required updating them.

Got the same issues here, but the Noel-Fix does not work for me, so it must be something else other than a redistributable (I downloaded and installed all of them). I've now downloaded Dependency Walker and have created the DWI file, but reading it cannot figure out which file(s) is/are giving problems. Something about API-MS-WIN-CORE-WINRT. I've opened a ticket though, and hope support will be able to tell me where the problem lies ...

Your depends log is clean. There are no dependency problems on your machine. Are you sure your scan path includes session drummer? Support can probably walk you through resolving this. I think your issue may be something simpler.

I don't think it's Session Drummer related.
Also in order to resolve that IE issue as you already have IE11 you could try upgrading to Windows 8.1 (available for free in the Microsoft Store) but please backup first. If you don't see it in the MS Store you need to run Windows update first.
Your Session Drummer issue is another issue, so I don't want to detract too much away from this thread....

I updated my 2 other computers to Win. 8.1, but this one has 190 plugins installed (accorging to VST manager)- I do not want to take my chances. But this is what Dependency Walker revealed when I opened SD.dll with it.

Right... it wiped out my other computer- I lost USB support and had to reinstall OS. It was traumatic. Also not all drivers are supported. I am earlier adopter with updates, but this one I had bad experience.

windows 8 has its own system image software
In Windows 8 and Windows RT, open the control panel and click/tap on the Windows 7 File Recovery icon.
A) In the left pane, click/tap on the Create a system image
I use it all the time for my weekly back ups.

Ok, can we talk about Session Drummer? I have paid expansions for it installed and songs that are using it. It needs to be available and working. What is it that I need to do? Unselect all options but SD in Sonar X3 installation and install it again? I am thinking- if the problem is dependency file, reinstall would not help anything.

Sorry to jump in on this late. Please, do not mess with Win8 at all yet. Which version of IE are you running (open IE and select Help->About IE) Edit: The IESHIMS.DLL file is part of the install of IE 8 and above. Have you tried updating/reinstalling IE yet? Edit2: I just used DW on my machine and am also missing the "specified file" but my session drummer runs fine. I would first recommend what you mentioned above and re-install Session Drummer only. If that does not help, I would next suggest re-installing the X3 patch for the version you are running.

I am on another computer now, but IE version was something like 10.0.11. I looked everywhere on Microsoft web site for updated version- it only pressures me to update to Win. 8.1 and get IE 11.
The SD file is there- I can see it. I copied it to another location but it does not go trough the Sonar plugin scan. How do I reinstall the parch? Just run X3d update again?
Also when I installed X3, I only installed part 1 to 4, did not install "Additional content", because I had SX2 installed. But now that I am thinking- I am not sure if I installed Additional content when I installed SPX2, as I was thinking- I have SPX1, but it was on my old computer. I thought- I heard- Sonar X3 does not offer SD any more and is not having it in installer because it was replaced by Addictive Drums, and we only have it because we had older versions. Is there SD in X3? Thank you.
