$99 Upgrade to Sonar X3 Producer

Got an email from CW that I could upgrade to X3 Producer from X2 for $99. If they had done this back when it was first released I would be running X3 now. $149 is a little much to upgrade every year IMO. Now I'm debating whether to wait for X4. If I upgrade it will be $99. Then if I upgrade again when X4 arrives, supposedly for $149, that would be a total of $258. But if I wait for X4 I'll then be two versions back and It will cost me $199. Think I'll wait until X4 and save $59. What will it be 6 months before X4?

Or I could upgrade to X3 for $99, wait another year from now, and upgrade for $99 when CW's fire sale for X4 begins.

Looks like a pattern.

I skip upgrades of Finale because it's usually $99 for a yearly upgrade and $149 if you skip a year.

I wish I had waited till now to get X3 Producer (the fifty shades of grey edition).

Notation, the original DAW. Everything else is just rote. We are who we are and no more than another. Humans, you people are crazy.

Well, X3 for $99 is a great deal, and it might be quite a long time until an X4 shows up - possibly October or much later.

X3d has been quite stable, and feature-rich, and several folks have already expressed joy with the X3e release we just got today.

If Cakewalk's email/newsletter system worked, I might also have received this email...

As it stands, how would one who never receives anything from Cakewalk go about accessing this deal since it's not in the store ?

Just out of curiosity, as  I'll probably wait for the cheap upgrade right before X4 deal  (and since Cakewalk won't send me anything, I have to log in here every day until it happens).

This Newsletter was explained to me as invite only, so I'm pretty sure it didn't go to everyone intentionally. Seems like it was aimed to X2 Producer owners so if we can figure out why you're not getting the Newsletter we could hopefully help you in the future.

Willy Jones took the time to provide you a perfectly valid explanation for why Newsletters sometimes don't make it to people here: http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/2975221

I can't help but notice your response since his post has been the following:
http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/2975856

http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/2995037

Instead of continually taking cheap shots at Cakewalk, why not work with us so we can look into what might be happening? If you want to PM me all your email addresses that are failing I can forward it to the guys who manage this. The Newsletter service we use has extremely strict rules regarding whether or not we can send to certain addresses if something was flagged. This is the most likely explanation. Clearly something is off with your accounts that we need to correct, but we'll have to work together on it. I'm willing to try if you want to.

Thanks for your reply.  My cheap shots are reminders that your email sign up doesn't work, and you've admitted it needs looking into.  Sure I could have you sign me up manually, but that doesn't fix the problem for everyone else.

I've read many posts of others who can't sign up for email or the newsletters.  If a single person tells me they've successfully signed up and received something from Cakewalk in the last month, I'll shut up.

BTW, I own X2 Producer so I'm interested in hearing about offers to upgrade.  I only need bug fixes though, so I'm waiting for the cheap offer.  If I received emails, no one would have to listen to me.

It's definitely not perfect, but I find it odd that your reaction is based off the people who have problems and not the hundreds of thousands who don't. If that's your metric for determining it doesn't work then I'm not sure there is a single service out there that will meet perfection considering the last thing any company wants to do is get flagged as a spammer and then REALLY not be able to reach anyone. Anyhow, I know a number of people have had problems with it but it's definitely a vast minority. Saying it doesn't work just isn't an accurate statement.

I'm signed up to the Newsletter with countless personal accounts that I've used to test various web forms on the site I've created over the years. Nobody at Cakewalk knows these are my accounts and no trickery was done. I receive tons of Newsletters from Cakewalk. So if our dataset is just you and me, I'd argue it works and you'd argue it doesn't.

Anyhow, we can talk about it all day long but the only thing that will ever have direct results is to follow up with yourself and anyone else who runs into problems with the Newsletter. There's really no other way of dealing with the suppression list other then working it out together sometimes. I'm sorry it's frustrating. Hopefully we can get to the bottom of it.

There is definitely some issue with newsletters and certain email address or IP's getting blocked. I have control over my own mail servers because I don't trust yahoo/gmail or whatever to look after and filter out my communications. It just might be the third party mailout is not the greatest service. I've done bulk mails in the past for marketing departments (10's of thousands of emails) and I always did it from my own server (precautions can be made so your IP does not get blacklisted).

I hope one day it will be resolved, I also think having pull notifications as well (website) is the way to go as the SMTP simply sucks. I am getting newsletters fine nowadays.

Re: $99 Upgrade to Sonar X3 Producer 2014/03/18 23:25:05 (permalink)
I have DEFINITELY seen the occasional issue with newsletters, but if I recall correctly, the ones I have seen have all but a few been due to a user changing their email address to some other one.

And, if I recall further, a PM to one or more of the Cakewalk folks who pop into the forum (Andrew, Neil, Ryan, etc.) has always ended up getting things resolved.

I would think that if the goal is to get it working for your account, that they can certainly get it straightened out.

If your goal is to accomplish something else, and you choose not to get your particular issue fixed, then I think it quite unfortunate if you continued to post chippy comments about it.

They never claimed the process to be foolproof or perfect, quite the opposite, actually.  They HAVE in every case I have ever seen, taken every effort to figure out what happened and resolved it.

So, I don't understand why that wouldn't be sufficient in this case - not that I need to, but they are offering to devote effort and resources to fix it.  Maybe in the process of doing that, they will discover why a small number of others have had occasional problems.  Either way, they should be able to fix your situation - they certainly are willing.

Ryan, no hostility here at all but Paul is quite right to learn from others about this issue.  I've had the same email address with you guys since '96 and some years I get promos & newsletters and some years I don't.  I think my situation is straightened out, but I'm on this forum almost daily so I really don't remember the last time I've received something that wasn't purchase related.

Now I still have forum issues, sometimes I can highlight text and delete irrelevant parts of quotes and sometimes I just have to use the backspace key.  But do I want to help you guys figure out your email & forum issues?  Well, never.

I just want Sonar continually to work better and you guys are doing a much better job these days.

i got the email and prob will upgrade, it's worth it for Melodyne alone. AD will be a bonus, especially with the ADPaks available fairly cheap. And now i seems X3 is fairly stable at point e release, a good time to jump on.

I'm thinking of upgrading. One question, the download is so big, exactly what do I download? Sonar 3X with e included in the download? Or do I have to download X3 and then have to download all updates? Thanks.

The X3e update is not part of the X3 upgrade download.

Since you already have X2 Producer, there are 4 files needed for the X3 upgrade, 02_SONAR_X3_Producer.part1.exe through 02_SONAR_X3_Producer.part4.exe. The rest are the same as X2 Producer. Information about them may be found in a link at the bottom of http://www.cakewalk.com/support/kb/pages/x3_download_installation_instructions.aspx

It would also require downloading the X3e update http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/kb/reader.aspx/2007013361

And Addictive Drums is a direct download from XLN Audio. The instructions will be in your store account along with the X3 upgrade files.

+1, Mr scook is spot on.

I would imagine that at some point X3 with X3e applied will become what you download when purchasing X3, but it does not yet seem the case, and may not for some time.

Re: $99 Upgrade to Sonar X3 Producer 2014/03/19 11:46:46 (permalink)
Is the $99 offer available worldwide ? I'd happily upgrade from X2 Producer at this price but I've not been getting Cakewalk emails for some time. I used to get them almost weekly, and it was nice to know of promotions & special offers. Like others on this thread I've tried subscribing again via the website but it seems the mailing system does not like my email address for some reason. (It's not spam filters etc - I run my own email servers).

If I'd not been browsing this forum I'd completely have missed news of this - but now that I know about it I'd love to upgrade !. I've emailed Cakewalk this morning so I'll see if they answer, but if anyone knows if this is perhaps a US only promotion it would be good to know as I'm in the UK and it may not apply to me.

I was going to try and PM one of the Cakewalk team but it seems I can't do that until I've got 25 posts  - while I do read the forum often I've never had a major problem which I needed to ask for help with (and my skills are way to basic to help resolve problems here !) so my post count is as low as it gets !

Thanks,

Alistair C.

Re: $99 Upgrade to Sonar X3 Producer 2014/03/20 08:51:07 (permalink)
Alistair C - in the UK, the special offer price is £79 so it's a bit more expensive, even after taking VAT into account, but still a discount compared with the usual upgrade price.

If my experience with contacting Cakewalk support is anything to go by, don't expect a next day response.  I got in touch with them about a discount voucher that was swallowed by an online store glitch.  They took quite a while to get back to me (a month, less a couple of days), but they sorted out my issue, reinstated the voucher and apologised for the delay.

I must admit to being a little jealous of the US store prices.  I'd upgrade at $99 (about £59) but I'm still undecided at £79 (about $130), although I realise that VAT accounts for part of that price difference.

Because I don't need it and may not get much use from it for several months, by which time X4 may be available. I'm going to check the "New in X3" list to try to justify it to myself...  ;)

Thanks Jackie for posting the UK price - at £79 I'll happily upgrade if Cakewalk respond to my enquiry. I'm used to the interesting $->£ conversions but it's still a £40 saving on the usual price.

Absolutely, it's still a significant discount and I believe that it also comes with a free Sonar X3 Explained video from Groove 3 (I think both elements of the offer expire on 31 March).

Please continue to pass on any further information you hear on a possible $99 upgrade to X3 PE,  I'm currently using X2 PE, and I never received any email notice of less than the $149 cost, even though I know my email is registered with CW.   For a lot of us I think, it would make just enough difference in cost to take the plunge!      - John

Technology drives me to drink. Fortunately, it's a short drive..

Well, so far no reply from Calkwalk order support - I guess they are busy with the X3e release and the promotion, so I'll try to call them today. Then, if they can assist me with the promotion, I have the weekend to play with X3 !

As a new forum user, you cannot send or receive Private Messages to forum members, until your post count reaches 25 (I think that is the number).

I suggest you find some threads in this forum or perhaps the land of Bapu (that is frequently the Coffee House forum - hi Bapu), and get involved in the threads, posting helpful or relevant messages to the threads, until you get to 25 posts.

Once you reach 25 posts, you should be able to send a Private Message (PM) to Ryan Munnis - if you find one of his posts (usually easy to see up in the sticky posts), you can hover your mouse over his profile picture and click on Send PM.  He and some of the other forum regulars from Cakewalk have been quite responsive to helping folks out getting store accounts and purchases and such straightened out.

Ryan - I hope you don't mind I volunteered you for receiving a PM for this issue.  :)

Thanks for the suggestion Bob, but I don't want to spam the forum with my doubtful wisdom just to get 25 posts

I'll call Cakewalk later when order support opens at 1pm EST - the magic of Skype for low cost international calls !
