I haven't decided yet, so many thanks for that insight, MC. If they're going to reinstate the thumb drive option, that could be the tipping point that nudges me back. I'm still disappointed by the dearth of new organic sounds, though.

Doesn't seem to me that there's any special emphasis on EDM in Omni2. I'm not really sure what EDM is anyway, but if it equates to club music (Justin Bieber and the like) then I haven't heard it in Omni2 yet. I write mostly New Age background music for videos and I've been able to use a couple of the EDM patches in my compositions.

I got the VIP price for Omni2 because I have Trilian (which is great) and Stylus.  I never use Stylus because IMO it's too dance oriented and I wish I hadn't bought it. They really should make demo versions of their products.

Bit:  I too was uncertain about all the EDM content in V2.0 because of all the ad hype about the new EDM Library, but once I took a couple of tours around V2.0 and used the new browser to isolate and examine the EDM library, I found that the EDM stuff was not all what I feared it would be.  Yes, there is some DubStep and some Wobble basses and those risers, but much of the EDM library comprises what I would deem arps and step sequenced materials that are useful in other genres, plus there are many useful "EDM" pads and leads  (I did not expect all the pads in EDM).

What impresses me most is the Sound Lock (and Sound Match).  With the former you can find a patch that you like, lock everything, then go to one of the EDM patchs that you don't like and transform it, convert it to the style and feel of what you do like.  Having the Sound Lock makes V2.0 library really impressive, so much deeper, bigger and more expansive than I imagined it could be.  Take one of the EDM pads that you don't like, use Sound Lock to change the arp or step and the results are really impressive.  V2's library is enormous and so much more than just EDM.

Again, I am not a fan of EDM.  I was, however, pleasantly surprised by much (or at least some) of V2.0 EDM material and how I could transform or morph useless (for me) patches within EDM material into patches that I do like and find useful and find my creativity enhanced.

Beware, I know you have slow internet.  I do too.  It took me an entire day (26 hours) to download because of my horribly slow internet.  Having said that, it never stopped downloading, and had no corruptions.

For me V2.0 gets a A+.

I contacted support and upgraded last week. I did not have a lot of time to check it out until a couple days ago. Before I continue there is an update already that I hope will address a few issues I've had with Omni2.
http://www.vi-control.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=45371

One of the issues is it seems very sluggish when going through the library and it is slow to load some of the samples. The 2nd one is it causes Sonar's audio engine to drop out before even trying to track anything. It happens intermittently when selecting a sound. I hope the update will take care of these issues. Omnisphere 1 worked great.

Incidentally I am new to Omnisphere, but I must say my first experience with support was not all that good. Long story short after several emails to one tech in particular he suggested I might want to go back to Omnisphere 1. Ummmm... not the answer I was looking for. he wasn't to helpful with his earlier replies either but whatever...

I was listening to Heavyocity's Aeon Melodic, which is currently on sale for a hundred bucks less than the Omnisphere 2 upgrade, and it's loaded with exactly the kinds of rich sounds that made Omnisphere 1 so appealing.

I love Aeon Melodic, 25 gigs worth of amazing sounds and a great GUI for under $150.

MachineClaw and Fleer: do either of you have any tunes posted in which you used Aeon?

Too many of the demo songs and videos feature lo-fi effects, for which I have zero interest. I assume they just want to show how hip and relevant they are, but I want to hear those sounds with the lo-fi effect turned off.

That's about where I'm at..... the whole d/l only seems to have been a massive own goal for them, especially as they addressed buyers initial concerns about this with how reliable their d/l system was. I just bought BFD3 with USB and it worked a treat. They still have control as you need a serial to d/l the installer, but it's a small .exe download only as all the content is on the USB and there are also options as to how much of it you want to load.

I also agree that the loyal customer incentive to buy O2 seems a bit stingy, but IIRC the 1.0 - 1.5 upgrade was free, so maybe not so bad taking that into account ?

I suppose if the upgrade was $49.95 I'd just shut up, kick off the 3-day download and not worry about EDM patches.

But it's not fifty bucks, it's $249, and that's my music software budget for 5 months. It means I'll get nothing else this year until I buy myself a birthday present next October.

I paid the $199 vip price for the upgrade, did the DL and, install. Played with it for an hour and was not blown away like I might have been a few years ago. Currently, I would not miss the update as much as I do the $199. I still use Omni but not because of the V2 upgrade.

It did seem kinda sluggish but I have not bothered with the new update yet. I think I have just lost interest in Spectrasonics during their extended disappearance. I enjoyed the continued participation of Eric, on the Northern Sounds Forum, and seeing the Videos they would make as he had a special way of inspiring me to use his products.

I might gain interest in the future but currently it is not a priority as other software packages have me busy. I also feel like the VIP deal was not that big of a Deal as someone that only owned Omni could purchase the upgrade from JRR for a few dollars more than someone who has the entire Spectrasonics line.

I really believe it is an individual choice whether V2 brings something special to the table or not. I'm kinda wishing I would have put the upgrade off a while longer but too late for that... I really doubt that you're missing that much Bit but You have a way of putting things through the ringer and finding the Golden Ring. Wishing you the best in your decision.

Bitflipper - I don't have any examples or demos of my stuff online. guess I need to setup a soundcloud account sometime).

on youtube Sound on Gear did a decent demo of Aeon collection which a lot of is just playing the melodic patches.  gives you a good example of what is in the product out of the box.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6WWXdEeSwi8

JRRShop Omni 2 upgrade is $203.81with the coupon FORUM code and they mail you the code which you then download, about 23GB download.

Omni 2 is not a cheap upgrade, and the download is big and slow if you have a slow internet connection.  but it really is worth it if you use Omni 1 a lot - Omni 2 is just so much more.

Cheers MachineClaw for posting the YouTube link with melodic demos.
Sorry, bitflipper, only just started dabbling with Aeon (Melodic) but I love it and like you I'm not into the in-crowd stuff, that's why I only bought Melodic (and not Rhythmic).
Edit: Bit, just checked that SoundsAndGear link again: this should really allow you to decide whether Aeon is up your alley.
You might also want to listen to SOUNTH11 on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6MsftWt3k8).

I downloaded the update a few days ago. At 18 gig it took under an hour to download. So far I've just been auditioning some of the new patches, but the new features, things like new wave forms for the osc, wavetable synthesis, granular synthesis, expanded modulation, some new sounds and fx, and the ability to import a wav file and do some "resynthesis" on it make it worthwhile. For people who haven't upgraded yet, note that you can import a wave file, you can't import samples. There isn't any key mapping or multiple velocity samples, etc.
