Guess I know what will be eating up a lot of my free time over the next few weeks...

When I was watching something Eric Persing said, I think it was in the recent Omnisphere 2 intro but may have been elsewhere, he said their goal is to put a lifetime of unexplored sounds in their tools.  They are doing very well in that regard, even before Omnisphere 2 and their other updates are released.

Next few weeks sounds like an understatement.
One thing I would suggest to hustle things along is to visit pluginguru.com.  John there has some very helpful tutorials and walk-throughs that can really help accelerate learning it.

Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.

Good luck with that, rivers88. I'm in my 4th year as an Omnisphere user and still finding stuff I didn't know was in there.

Yeah, "next few weeks" was probably a HUGE understatement.
(Especially since work, family, other hobbies tend to get a large part of my time...)

Appreciate the tips on the tutorials!

Omnisphere is really great. It single-handedly converted me into a soft-synth believer. It has pretty much replaced all of my Roland JV rack gear, which I am somewhat sad about, lol.

Sometimes, I feel a little sad when I look at my Kurzweil rack unit and remember how little it gets used nowadays. But don't unload that hardware synth just yet, Dan. It's still your best solution for zero-latency playing.

As much as I love Omnisphere, Kontakt and Zebra, I never play them in real time. Instead, I find a similar patch on one of my hardware synths and that's what I hear while recording MIDI. Not only is there no latency, there's also no CPU, memory or disk usage. That Roland module will never crash your DAW and never refuse to work because it thinks your license is invalid. It'll be compatible with every version of Windows and the C++ runtime library, no matter what Microsoft throws at you in the coming years. Best of all, it will never expect any more money from you.

Agreed. Omnisphere was the best thing I bought since Atmosphere (Spectrasonics, not Russ Abbot!)

I power the rack up every time I am at my DAW. I do pretty much what you suggest and use the sounds from the racked instruments and (maybe) replace them later. It depends a lot on what I'm working on.

With V2 there will be a total of over 10,000 sounds, but that includes 2000 new soundsources so that will be interesting.

I don't know how how much of the Omnisphere/Trilian library I've gone through, but certainly not all of it.  So I am excited about the new soundmatch & the ability to "lock" in certain parameters while browsing because it really should make the library easier to use on the fly.

Very impressive. In addition to upgrading to Sonar Platinum, Omnisphere is the best investment I've made this year. It's going to take me years to go through the massive library of sounds and patches, but I'm really looking forward to the learning experience.

Although the official release date is April 30th, it appears that JRRShop is shipping it now. And at a $20 discount over the official upgrade price.

I love Specs' stuff, but am continually disappointed that there are no public forums to discuss/share/solve etc.

I have been subtly pushing them to set some up for the past few years, but alas nothing as yet.  Whilst I can understand their reticence at getting involved with the unwashed masses (AKA managing and moderating a public forum), their products are so deep and complex that a place to go to seek advice and help from more experienced users would be of great benefit (to all parties).

Having said that, they've always been very responsive and helpful to email inquiries, but I always feel a bit guilty about hassling them over relatively trivial points that I would normally use a public forum for.

Re: Omnisphere 2! 2015/04/30 15:48:48 (permalink)
Well - I got Omnisphere 2 today... after some "jumping trough hoops (partly my own fault)"...

At first I was watching the countdown reaching zero... and that was it.. It stayed on zero and nothing happened. A few minutes later the website was refreshed, but no upgrade link...

"This will probably take juuuust an little time" I mumbled to myself, hoping I was right...

Well - it took some time, but better skip the word "little". You see - there was an upgrade button, but I got the message that I did not happen to have anything to update. Huh? I have Omnisphere, Trillian and Stylus RMX (jep I'm an VIP) registered in my account. What the......

Finally it was sorted out, and I could purchase Omni2 for the VIP price. After paying with PayPal, I was redirected to the site without any notice, and any idea what to do next. In my account downloads I had Omni 2, but only an install file - no updates. The Install file was only 164Mb, thus probably only the plugin. Well I went ahead and downloaded the file. The install procedure was short - very short. "Maybe the full upgrade will come after registering?" was my thought. So I went further and launched Sonar and indeed - I could launch Omni 2, and got the challenge/response, that went without hiccups. After re-starting Omni 2 it was indeed registered, but was missing all content!

Finally I got the bright idea to take an look at my mail, and there it was.. The link to the download program.. I resisted the urge to making an dent in the wall by banging my head against it (an strange need I always feel when I do something stupid), and downloaded and launched the program.

I am lucky to have an fairly nice download speed (120Mb/s), so the download of the (about) 18Gb went without any problem and took about 30 minutes. After that all that was left was installing and I was ready to "play around" with my brand new Omnisphere 2.

First impressions are very good, but I need some time to test out all the new improvements before I give an first opinion..

Frustrated at the moment.  I have emailed them to find out what's up, but I believe I should get the free upgrade due to when I purchased Omni 1 (after 2 was announced).  I don't see anything in my account to indicate that I am eligible for the update, and to top things off, for some reason I don't get automatic emails from them.  i can get a response when I email their info address, but I didn't get confirmation when I first registered and have never once received any SPAM from them. (Checked my registered email at least 10 times and it's correct.)  I guess I'll just have to wait this out and see.

They call 'em fingers, but I've never seen 'em fing.

Site may be down, but my download is still downloading.  Again, I have a horrible internet suppler/service--don't laugh, but it is still chugging away.  I am only at 15%, but it won't finish until tomorrow, yes I said tomorrow.  I just hope that if it stops, that it can restart on its own.  Would hate to have to start all over again.

Has anyone had to restart a download?
