I think both Idea's are cool...
However I think that what would work would be to incorporate Number 1 & 2...

Meaning, go out on the road to visit sonar users studios, but have like maybe 10 ish sonar users in attendance (if that studio could hold that many folks).....Have each one bring ONE project bundle with them and then at the begining of the day select the Home or host studio user help with one of his tracks and then select one or maybe two others in attendances help with their project.

Video the whole thing and then upload to your fav media outlet.

this way you will get to meet and greet many folks, there will be no need for crowd control so the pizza guy could get there, you would reach a large audience with your video uplinks, you will get to see how we use sonar and have 1st hand knowledge of what kind of tips and tricks the regular guys could use...etc......

I think this is a WONDERFUL IDEA!!!!

Too Bad Tampa Florida may be a little further than you would like to go...
Oh well....I will watch the vids!

What's the update on this?

Good question. I've been, shall we say, a little preoccupied lately But is that cool, or what?!? And tomorrow I leave for Europe to go to Musikmesse.

Right now mid-May and later is on hold because I may be going to Ibiza for a big dance music event...so I'd either need to throw things together fast for early May, or wait until June.

For me, the road trip event is much more flexible because I can schedule it any time as long as that schedule matches up with people who want to be visited. I still think Gibson's Nashville showroom would be the ideal place to have the get-together so I'm tracking progress to see when the renovations will be done.

Don't worry, this will happen once all the moving parts line up. I'm really excited about both of the elements!!

That is pretty cool!! Well that changes the ballgame so to speak!  I may start going back around there.

Good luck with it Craig. I am sure it will get to be "The" place for music minded people from all over to hang out.

First of all, this is still something I will be pursuing. But as you may or may not know, Gibson acquired Harmony Central recently and that has put a lot more on my plate for now until the staffing is nailed down, the site functionality is restored, and so on. Also, I've been tapped to be on a panel at the International Music Festival in Ibiza, which pretty much ended any opportunities in late May, and then Sweetwater's GearFest hits June 12th. Finally, I don't have a firm date yet on when the renovations at the Gibson Showroom in Nashville will be finished; that would be the perfect place to hold the get-together, and I want to hold out for it.

However, the response to this "crazy idea" from the forum, Cakewalk, and also Henry has convinced me this is well worth doing, and the "mini-tour" wouldn't be too hard to put together quickly. So while I don't have anything definite right now, it will be going forward when I come up for air.

Cool, thanks for the update.  It sounds like June is unlikely, but I've wanted to get down to Gearfest which is only about 3 hours away, so maybe this is an excuse to make it there.

I highly recommend GearFest. There's a huge variety of educational sessions, and the whole event is run extremely well. I've been going there for years and always enjoy myself - meet lots of great people, see many of my friends in the industry, and make new friends.

You can always catch me just before or just after one of my workshops (I'm giving two of them). Of course, you're invited to hang out for the workshop as well . One of them is everything you wanted to know about dynamics, the other is about mastering in a DAW. You can probably guess which DAW I'll be using to demo the various techniques...

Yeah I know, just a little joke. I know Nashville is right up there with those cities for music.

Hmm, that's weird. I never would've thought that would be the case especially with all the people in the NY and LA metropolitan areas. Have you ever figured out why people don't turn out to these types of events in NY or LA?

I didn't see where this was answered, but there are a couple of "human factors".
Psychology is marketing 101 and that's a good question because understanding marketing helps keep us from getting sucked in by it lol.

The more people, the more activities there is available.
Even on a Tues or Thurs, there is likely to be a pretty big something scheduled.
A big concert, the grand yada yada museum opening ... 100 things to do, both large and small.

Whereas in smaller communities the scale changes, there's fewer, and smaller options, and you mow on Tuesdays.
But they'll plan further in advance, tailgate, maybe even truck a van of bros in across two states and 500 miles, with as much enthusiasm as their first time touching Rhonda's boob.

They're more excited, show up happy, and spend more of the "ancient triad" of marketing .... the most valuable resources in all the kingdoms  .... money, time, and energy.
Staying home is more the norm, and even the small events have greater importance.

In the city, not only do you choose the most important events to manage that time, but the scale changes and the small things you consider are bigger.
And, getting them to drive 50 miles into the city traffic means it has to be huge.

Less excited, outright pissed, or at least "not-happy", and then they spend less money, mope around, and leave early.

So a free software specific meet and greet is generally smaller potatoes, no matter how big the software is, but when the other option is mowing, count me in ....... lol

I also highly recommend Gearfest.  I will be attending for the 4th time, and I always find it enjoyable. Very cool and unique event. I'm only 2-3 hours drive from there. I guess I'll skip the mowing that day.

I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.

Until I read through this I had not been aware Gibson had acquired Harmony Central.

Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.
