Tom & stevec, ok tnx, I leave it as it is for now... I hope there is a way to not have all versions, imagine after 12 updates later, ca 17GB on my c: drive, could be a diskspace issue on my laptop :)

btw, its orhan project, not orphan :)

Edit : With all versions, I mean all previous update versions installed, specially if all fututre updates will be that big its gonna eat my laptop c drive pretty fast

Just use the CCC to redirect (the little gear icon in the top right corner) where your files are downloaded so they aren't on your c: drive

OrphanProject I would not uninstall anything listed as "Sonar Platinum"!!!!!!!

+1   Those two entries are likely two versions of SPlat, allowing rollback from the current to the previous version.

this is the kind of question that really needs clarification from a baker...

just a sec

Orphanproject You will find that the size of the program is not the cumulative size of what is reported in the windows programs control panel.

Each install shares files or replaces them from the previous update. This is why you should not uninstall the previous versions.

Re: SONAR "Cambridge" Release is Now Available! 2015/03/30 15:22:18 (permalink)
Ok There seems to be a serious bug with one of the encoder formats. This just started after I installed the Cambridge update. When I export to wav 16 bit and I choose WAV (microsoft) I generally get another window that pops up and says that it will encode in microsoft 16bit. Now with Cambridge that window is gone and when it is done encoding I get this error message

Warning:The External Encoder returned an error code. The file may not have encoded properly

When I look for the file it is not even there which tells me it did not finish the encoding process. Another error is happening too. When I hit the export button the directory that I want the file to go into goes into a random sub folder for some reason. I hit export again and then the file starts and gets to the end then throws up that error message. It does not create a sub folder it just goes into an existing one.

So in conclusion The WAV (microsoft) encoder no longer works on my machine. It worked fine before I installed Cambridge. I used it a day before the Cambridge install with no problems

The real problem for me is this encoder is the only one I use. If it does not work for me then Sonar has lost its use for me. Is there anyway to roll back on an install without uninstalling the entire program and re-installing again? Even if I did uninstal how could I avoid installing the Cambridge addition?

What is the difference between the WAV (microsoft) Export and the WAVEX (microsoft) export? That is something new that was not there before. Is that conflicting with the 16 bit WAV (microsoft) export format?

Any help would be appreciated. I have projects ready to export and this conflict is holding up the process.

I can confirm the issue with the "Microsoft WAV" export. However, the main WAV export (the top item on the export list) works fine.

I usually don't export as WAV anyway but as Broadcast WAV. Broadcast WAV has the advantage of being fully compatible with WAV files but includes additional time-stamping information that places the file at the timestamp where it was recorded. (If you don't want this, you can choose to have SONAR ignore time-stamping during import.) Media players and similar devices ignore time-stamping anyway but with projects, time-stamped files can make life much easier.

WaveX is a wav extension that as far as I know is used mostly for surround projects and wouldn't apply to what you're doing.

There is not much reason to use the Microsoft Wave option. In fact we thought of removing the option to avoid confusion. SONAR's normal Export to wave function writes the same format and is actually more powerful since it will handle auto switching to wave64 when the file is too big. I think the only difference is that the MS format will write 24 bit waves as Waveformat extensible.

I'll look into why the encoder is failing if the problem is on our end.

OK you can fix this problem yourself :)

Open C:\ProgramData\Cakewalk\SONAR Platinum\libsndfile-exclude.txt

You will see two lines formatted like this:

AIFF (Apple/SGI)|IMA ADPCM
W64 (SoundFoundry WAVE 64)|IMA ADPCM|Microsoft ADPCM

Just change them as below by adding a # and resave the file:

#AIFF (Apple/SGI)|IMA ADPCM
#W64 (SoundFoundry WAVE 64)|IMA ADPCM|Microsoft ADPCM

This should fix your problem. The issue is that we shouldn't be counting excluded subformats. Commenting out the line will fix it for now. In the next update I'll address the counting issue.

Re: SONAR "Cambridge" Release is Now Available! 2015/03/30 17:08:51 (permalink)
Thank You Noel and Thank You Craig for your quick response. I have been using the WAV microsoft export function since it was available. I forget what version it was. It seems to work better for me when I take that format and burn to CD. I don't know why, maybe it is the software I am using. I also convert to MP3 from the exported wav file and for that I will use Sound Forge. for some reason I get better results in fidelity when I use that WAV microsoft format. That is why I prefer it. I know it should make no difference and it is probably the same format but I can hear a difference on my system. I ran several tests back when I upgraded to X1 and even though it is the same format I get the beter sounding results.

Now I know that sounds crazy and I don't why that is, but that is what my ears perceive.

I have been a Cakewalk customer from the beginning and it has always been my experience that this company has the best customer support of any DAW on the planet. It would be great if you kept the format and I trust that it will be ironed out. In the mean time I will give the standard WAV format a try when I am back in the studio in a few days. I will let you know what I find out.

Other than this little snafu Cambridge rocks and I am glad that I decided to upgrade. It was a good investment.

I just fixed it in the code. It was a counting error that was leading it to think that the option selected was an external encoder. Fix will be in the next update. For now follow the instructions above if you want to use the WAV(Microsoft) and WAVEX formats.

Noel, while you are it and fixing things :),
Nr1: can you fix the Shift+T and Shift+A to collapse and expand ALL tracks takelanes and automation lanes? ;) this will be very useful!
Shortcut "T" and "A" could be for active track takelanes/automation and shift+T and shift+A could be for all tracks (ofcourse the ones that has takelanes and automation data will be collapsed/expanded)

Nr2: and also make active track highlight more visible, like highlighting the whole horizontal track field and not only track text BG as it is now, this also should be highlighted on the console view...

ETA on these? Looking forward next update then, Thanks a bunch :)

Exactly.

I have stated many times before that Cakewalk's Support is excellent, and that these forums are a massive bonus to using Sonar.

I had an issue when I first posted on these forums, and was staggered that the C.T.O. (Noel) posted a solution, to a relative newbie problem.

Good show chaps. I do like the ability to check mono compatibility straight from the PC. It was always a three or more step process for me and involved another program entirely. Now if I can only get my CA-X amps to work correctly I'll be happy, I am still having issues with Sonar thinking I have TH2 Sonar installed instead of TH2 Producer.

I don't see any updates in my command center other than some bass loops. Am I looking in the wrong place or am I simply living in the wrong dimension?

When using the Command Center, the Red light means you haven't installed that yet. The Yellow light indicates an update is available. So you can look at what it is, by using the pull down. You can let CCC do it or go to your products and manually install.
and of course, the Green light indicates "you're good to go".

I didn't install the Dim Pro, Rapture nor Celemony since I had them already where/how I want them. So for those always so up as Red lights.

Hi Michael,
Yeah, I though I understood the command center but maybe not. I didn't install Dim Pro or Rapture because I already had them...I bought Rapture years ago at full retail price. I also didn't install Melodyne because I purchased the editor version. But i don't see anything regarding our monthly updates and fixes. What do you think I might be missing?

Thank You so much for the quick attention you paid to this circumstance! Out of all the different types of software I used over the years and from many different companies, Cakewalk has the best customer support. The bakers really saved me on this one!

FWIW, anything not installed using CCC will display with a red dot. I didn't install any of those either because I already have them, so those dots will remain red for me too.  There have been requests to have CCC recognize existing installs but that ability doesn't exist yet.

Regarding monthly fixes, if you started on day one (back in January) you would have had Allston, followed by the Braintree update in February and the Cambridge update in March.  But if you start with Platinum after any given update, then that becomes your starting point.

I was able to right click on the item and select "hide".  This allowed me to hide AD2 because I'm keeping it updated through xln's online updater.  At least then I don't need to see the red dot.
