I'm still keeping an eye on this, but for now, using the MUX plugin provides much of what S3 introduces in regards to multi-instrument tracks. I'd certainly prefer to have a native version though, no doubt... their implementation does seem fairly slick. But I'll get by.
My hope is that CW expands its core MIDI capabilities to include this and other things we haven't thought of yet...
Expanding the MIDI capabilities would be nice, but, I would almost settle for Sonar just remembering the ports I have my MCU & Extender connected to when I forget to turn them on prior to starting Sonar... 
So you want SONAR to remember because you forget. That's what life mates (wife, husband, significant others) are for.

Yeah, the more I watch videos, the more I understand the possibilities of the new features. Still haven't decided if I will purchase the upgrade... yet. But I love the updated GUI and the four commands I mentioned earlier.

I really like the Groove3 videos but I think this one has just introduced the new S1v3 features. There are SO many details that they didn't have time to elaborate on and it could have been a Much longer video.
Regardless, the video is a Great starting point and I am loving S1v3. It isn't perfect, and there is a learning curve, but it does things I couldn't do before and the engines seem rock solid.

I finally did watch the archived "live" broadcast.
The arranger and notepad are tre cool. If I were seriously in the market for a new DAW to replace SONAR that might just be the one (see what I did there?). Still, I will wait for the Christmas sale on v3 upgrade and hopefully pick it up for under a Benjamin.

The Note FX really looked cool.
I am a little disappointed that the Chord Fx plug does not currently output the chord notes to be captured as midi. Only the key pressed to trigger the chords can be captured/recorded. That is suppose to change in time.

FYI, you can record the one note midi to drive Chorder. Then, if you want to convert the one note to the actual chord, you use the "Render Instrument Tracks" command. That will convert the one note chords to full chorded midi notes.

You can always undo the render...in S1 3 it's non destructive...which is way kewl...one of the segments in the Groove 3 tutorial talks about this...not that it's a bad idea to go ahead and make a duplicate anyways just to be safe...

As a full time Studio One user I am pretty happy with this major upgrade. There has been some mixed reactions over there but for me it is extremely well behaved and an almost perfect .0 release. I think I am lucky or something. The GUI is very nice. Much better on a 27" monitor though.
All the new stuff is excellent. Scratchpad is way good. I am using it already. The synths are great too. I am not having Mai Tai trouble in terms of CPU like others are right now. I can run many without a slight hitch. Presence XT is great too.
Midi FX are a welcome addition. It is possible through routing to record what the Note FX are doing. I have got a slightly complex external midi hardware setup and two midi interfaces. Both 8 IN 8 OUT devices. I can send midi data around very easily. The Note FX all get sent out to any external hardware. It is easy to send that effected midi signal back into the computer for me and record a second midi track at the same time. The first has just your live playing captured and the second has all the note FX on.
They have blended some Sonar, Cubase, Pro Tools and Logic elements in there as well with this new upgrade. The content is excellent. The midi side is still powerful and much can be done now. I would like to see full Sysex recording etc in the next little while hopefully. I have got Roland JD800 and all the front panel controls send out data that Studio One presently won't record.
Great upgrade though, a great program just got a whole lot better.

BD..the deeper I get into this the more I like it. I haven't really "loaded it" yet to see how it compares under a project with Sonar. (by loading I mean "stressing with a lot of plugins") I love Sonar...greatly...but with the features this is offering, if I really start working with it I may get hooked...I can't believe some of the things in here...it's amazing... It's a very impressive program....was before...but REALLY is now...plus integrated Mastering, Melodyne Integration, etc...it's certainly more then most offer...and ALL DAW's could learn from the browser in it (IMO) I have yet so see ANY update to PT 12....after several months... Sonar still wins for GUI....but the GUI in S1 3 is quite usable... On the other hand...Sonar has made leaps every month since the release of Platinum... and that is worth quite a bit also...it's not often that a DAW gives you new VST's or features every month...THAT says a lot about Sonar and Cakewalk to me .... Maybe we'll see some of this in later "Versions" of Platinum... But I'll still be working with S1 3 also...and PT 12....etc...blah blah blah..etc...ad nauseum... just to keep up with the industry... Ha...that's a good one

I have been using the scratchpad a lot already and it is excellent. If you are someone that likes to create chunks or ideas it is very cool. The cursor wont play from one thing into the other. eg from the normal timeline into a scratchpad. They are quite separate. There is no limit to the number of scratchpads so having several is very good with each one starting at zero, bar 1 etc..They can be shown or hidden. A good thing to do is to create arrange sections in the arranger window in each of the scratchpads too. Then it is just a simple matter to drag the arrange sections into one final arrangement. You can use the scratchpads for different versions of a full complete mix too. You can still save multiple versions of the same piece as before under one Studio One song. Each version can have a scratchpad or multiple scratchpads too. I am about to do a children's album for a client. There will only be 5 or 6 songs on the album but 4 or 5 versions of each song though. The scratchpad concept will come into its own for this. It helps to have a larger monitor when scratchpads are in use.

Hi Mike. No still in Melbourne. Been going up there a lot and checking out houses. It could be Sunbury or Ballarat but Ballarat is looking better. Got to get a job there as well. Not rushing at this stage just looking for the perfect house.
