What are 3 key features (realistic and attainable) that you would like to see implemented into Sonar that would make you feel as if it were the best DAW on the planet?

Scripting. Give me Javascript or Python or something very similar to it, inside the DAW, then I can fill in a lot of the missing features by writing my own scripts.

Track folders that work like buses. Right now the grouping and sending functionality in Sonar is a bit of a mess - everything you send ends up down the bottom of the track list or the right-hand-side of the console, there's no clear visual indication of where things go, and buses are used for both grouping and for effects. If we could add effects and change the gain and level on track folders, that would mean we don't need to use buses for grouping any more and working with submixes would become a lot simpler. eg. Mix all your drums relative to each other, then collapse the folder and just work with the 'Drums' folder and adjust its level relative to the tracks around it.

More flexible MIDI routing. Right now, if I want one MIDI note to trigger multiple synths, it's a pain. Sometimes I want to layer drum synths, or different string synths, to get a unique sound. Or maybe I want to use a piano and string synth together so that I have a good tone for composing that is as good for staccato as it is for legato. The usual workarounds of copy and paste or installing some weird external MIDI device are not good enough. (I think I had a similar issue with MIDI controllers, where I want 1 controller routed to both volume and expression, but couldn't do that. I expect it would be a similar fix.)

Strangely, I think these are all features that REAPER has. But if I were on their forum answering this question, I'm sure I'd be naming features that Sonar has. :)

EDIT: Having read the other responses, I think some sort of song arranger would be great. Whether that is a separate arrangement pane (a bit like FL Studio), easier ways to drag and drop sections (as I think someone said was in Logic Pro), or maybe just a more sophisticated loop/jumping system, that would help me massively.

1: A Mastering Suite. If not a "Sonar" version of Ozone 6 in conjunction with Izotope or the Ozone 6 itself. This one is doable, with both companiesin the same state.
2: An automatic EQ
3: a drum replacer track/lane on the TTS-1
I have Sonar Pro, but sPlat will be mine within the week...

1. Fix the staff view! (While I like the PRV for some things,  I want to use the staff view too)
2. Complete set of Mastering tools
3. Also as someone said an improved CCC

Did the Steinberg kids program their editor in house or did they farm it out/steal talent from companies like Sibelus?

I still think the staff view stuff should be contracted out to a third party so as not to distract the Bakers from their current work. Since a huge amount of your users are guitar players (like me) and GuitarPro does notation very well as far as I've seen I'd say tapping their resource/talent pool would be the best bet. Tab AND notation would be freaking brilliant and likely set the notation element of Sonar aside from the rest of the pack.

Essentially I would like to see Guitar Pro integrated into Sonar's MIDI editor somehow.

Just as long as we have a Baker poking about. ;-)

They have had this for longer then the other companies have been around.

Best

Until you said that, I was going to respond with 'REAPER' :)

After seeing promotional material for other hosts recently, I am not convinced that the competition isn't monitoring the "feature request" forum religiously. A couple videos made some "not so subtle" stabs at their competition.

ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero (Wi-Fi AC), i7-8700k, 16GB RAM, GTX-1070Ti, Win 10 Pro, Saffire PRO 24 DSP, A-300 PRO, plus numerous gadgets and gizmos that make or manipulate sound in some way.
