the way I figured out how it worked was by reading the documentation. Then I just used it for about 30 minutes and it all became clear.

I know everyone is different. I could watch a video repeatedly and learn less than reading the doc and a little hands on testing. Sometimes the process is reversed, little hands on first then read what I really should be doing.

In theory I like instructional videos, but in practice I always find them disappointing. Usually there is a lot of preamble and introduction where they waste time telling you stuff that you already know or talking about how great it is. And when they finally get to the vital part that you want to focus on, they gloss over it in about 3 seconds. You replay the important part hoping to see something you missed the first time. But no, you still can't tell what the guy just clicked on.

I think it depends on the user's knowledge.  For instance with Sonar I read then play with the dials, sliders etc.  I go to extremes just to see what happens.  Note that I have used Cakewalk's software for years.

But as a just starting photographer I use videos for my software.  I'm trying to get the basics down as well as learn what the software can do and the vids are great for that.  YMMV

The reason people say the vinyl sounds better is because the music was better.

Can not Sonar update / re-install if Visual C++ Runtime 2017 is installed?

Hello,

I'm Sonar Platinum and MS Visual Studio 2017 user.
Recently, i have installed VS2017 (After uninstalled VS2015)
I cannot update Sonar from Command Center after VS2017 installed.
Sonar installer has succeeded copying Sonar's files. But final phase, installing has failed. In particular, failed VS2015 runtime installing.

From VS2015 Runtime installer's log:
"Error 0x80070666: Cannot install a product when a newer version is installed."

NOTE:
Both vc2015 and vc2017 share the same major version number, 14.x and shares the same registry keys.

Nobody has same problem?
Thanks,

I think you are missing marketing opportunities by not having video blurbs about new features. Worth adding someone to the payroll imho it would pay for itself.

In SONAR [2017.04] the the visibility of tracks in the Track View affects the visibility of tracks in the Piano Roll View (PRV) Track Pane.

For example, if I have MIDI tracks containing key switches in a folder and I collapse the folder in the Track View, I can no longer view or edit the key switch tracks in the PRV.  Also, if a track is hidden using the Track View Track Manager, then it is not available for viewing and editing in the PRV.

In all past versions of SONAR the ability to view and edit a track in the PRV was independent of the Track View visibility.

Is this new behavior by design or was it an unintended change that occurred during PRV re-design?

If this new behavior is by design, then the filter functionality in the PRV Track Pane seems redundant, since the filtering capability is already occurring in the Track View.  IMHO, PRV track visibility should be controlled by the PRV options and the Track Pane filter, not the Track View track visibility.

Thanks,
-- Ron

I totally agree.
These filters need to be isolated form each other.
This current behavior kills the possibility of the detailed control that is had in pre 2017.04 and ours a deal breaker for me.

Staying with 2017.01 unless this changes.

Thanks for the good description Ron!

I believe the closed folder issue is either fixed or being fixed.

But ... does that mean TV and PRV will be independent views and not locked to being the same selection of which tracks are hidden and visible?

I don't know, I assume they touch different parts of the program. But as I mentioned in the other thread where you're posting about the same issue, perhaps this will make it possible to put all your MIDI tracks in a track folder so you don't see them in TV, but you'd still see them in the PRV. And if you did want to see the MIDI tracks in TV, you could just unfold the folder.

The thing I don't like about the new PRV is having the MSR buttons in the middle of the track pane. Showing them takes up too much work space.

The old way had the MSR buttons first so the rest of the track pane could be hidden showing more notes.

I agree ... new way is a work flow downer, especially if you can't resize the name box.

Me sticking with 2017.01 until all of this is sorted out.

---------------------
Most concerning and the biggest deal breaker and absolute impossibility for me
is the way TV and PRV are now linked as to what is able to be Hidden and Unhidden.

I believe absolute independence between TV and PRV is essential.

Loosing the absolute independence between TV and PRV would set my work flow back to the stone age.
I see no new feature that outweighs this long standing previous to 2017.03 given essential.

Sure, putting the MSR stacked under the edit buttons doubles the vertical space of each track strip but I never have that many loaded anyway.

The R button isn't really necessary for me (never use it in PRV) but the MS and edit buttons are essential.

Even with 20 or more loaded I'd rather have the double high space than loose the horizontal realestate in the middle where we see the notes.

I'm amazed that the R button is included. I had assumed that when people said "MSR" they really meant just "MS".

Cakewalk has still to solve the problem of the real-time MIDI reverb and chorus settings in the track inspector pane.  When recalling a previous save on MIDI tracks the dials stay set to zero (0) however in the view event list the previous values are set in the in line controller values.  Sonar X3 recalled the setting and displayed them on the reverb and chorus dials respectively for each track.  It has been along time and many requests to Cakewalk to fix this.  This occurs when generating and recalling MIDI (.mid) tracks only.  When saving and recalling a project bundle the reverb and chorus seen to be correct.  However, sometimes I want to work with just MIDI files.

Step-Sequencer patterns have a similar issue where, if you save and recall a pattern, the swing/time settings are embedded into the save, and the knobs are then reset to zero upon recall vs. simply just recalling the swing/time knob settings when a pattern is recalled.

Does this new update have the bitbridge application built in so you can use your 32bit plugins?
