lifetime updates/using 2 computers

Hi,

I have been busy with life's distractions, but I'm paying attention now. Questions:
1) I have been a Platinum user since it came out. Am I automatically a recipient of lifetime updates?
2) I am moving home studio to another room and to a different computer. Am I allowed to download Platinum and continue to receive updates on this new computer? Can I also continue to do so on the "old" computer?

Thanks,

Kawika

you had to purchase the lifetime updates, you don't get them just from being a platinum owner/user

you can install and use sonar on more than 1 computer (2), but you can't (well you are not supposed to) use them at the same time

i don't think this is strictly enforced, like there is nothing stopping you from installing on 5 computers and using them all at the same time, but you are not supposed to. it's sort of an 'honor' thing

    1) It was not automatic. The lifetime update program was available for purchase in 2016. Check your status here. Lifetime status is shown as Updates and Support valid through ∞.
    2) Yes, you may install the software on both machines but you may only run the software on one PC at a time.

Hi kawika . . . sorry, the window of opportunity for lifetime updates is gone, where were you ?, it was offered for almost a year . . . I believe you can install Sonar on many computers, but you are only legally licensed to use one at a time.

Edit, apparently scook and grim type faster than me (:

As said no problem with installing Sonar on second machine. What you can do is update everything on the old one and then just copy the Command Center download folder over to the new computer. Saves a tonne of time and bandwidth, You only really need to download once for every update if you do this.
    The folder is found in:
    Computer /C / Program Data/ Cakewalk/ Command Center/ Downloads

First install Command Center to the new Computer and log in.
Run CCC and install just Sonar.
Now copy the CCC download folder content to the same location in the new computer.
Now when you run CCC and choose other parts, like Dim Pro, It will install fast as it is already downloaded and ready to install.

You do realise that Sonar expires for updating after a year from when you purchased it. You will have to anti up to get the latest versions if your year is up.

Thanks guys. How much is it now to get the lifetime updates?

This whole lifetime updates seems like a curious business move. It does not seem as profitable as offering free updates for a version (e.g. X2, Platinum) and then creating another package (with it's free updates); almost unambitious like they see the end.

It was a limited time offer which expired. It's no longer available nor likely to be again. You want the current version of Sonar you'll need to pay and it will be a 12 months Membership paid upfront or mi they payments. Your choice.
Just login to your Cakewalk account, same as your forum login and go to the Cakewalk store. Click on buy whichever item you qualify for (if there is one) and you'll get your price.

Lifetime updates for Platinum are no longer being sold. They were available from June 2016 through December 2016. Current renewal prices are here.

If it is available, I think it is $199, but I am not 100% sure on that.  The offer was really really good, and if available, I highly encourage you to get it.

    No.
The current Sonar range is to be it. There is no beyond Platinum version. Sonar Artist, Professional and Platinum versions are updated monthly.

The product, Sonar Platinum to which the Life time update applies, is promised to not be superseded by another product. Giving a guarantee that Life time updates are just as stated. Life time.

Yes, still working on setting up the campaign. We switched our ecommerce provider - yesterday - in fact, and we're back to defining the parameters of this campaign to reach out to people who missed the boat on LTU as well as our campaign before switching to our new pricing policy.

So I would be waiting/looking for something very soon.

i have never read anything like that (i may well have missed something) but all i have ever read was that the lifetime updates apply to platinum while platinum remains platinum, but when a change is made to another version, all bets are off. i have never seen it stated or implied that platinum was to be 'infinite', only ever got the implication that it was 'finite'.

It happened and it was discussed in length

What happens if the product name SONAR Platinum were to change to something like SONAR Mercury, would lifetime updates still apply?
If you purchased lifetime updates for SONAR Platinum, you will get lifetime updates for SONAR Platinum. If we change the name of SONAR Platinum, you will get lifetime updates to the newly named version. It's as simple as that.

yeah i have read all that stuff before, still don't see it, many things are in the wording, like there would be a big difference between just 'changing the name of sonar' and sonars 'line' coming to and end, and a new product taking over. if they said that regardless, people who purchased sonar platinum lifetime updates will receive any future cakewalk flagship daw product free of charge and continuing updates for said products in perpetuity, well that would be different, but they aren't actually saying that. time will tell

and if memory serves me correct, i think mr anderton has even alluded to the fact that lifetime updates will come to an end at some point.

Everything ends.  Either ones life or the product.

The concept and the intent is pretty clear to me.  Sonar has been the name of their flagship DAW for nearly 20 years.  If they stay in business, I think the lifers shouldn't have too much to worry about.

If they come up with a non-DAW flagship type of product, no, I wouldn't expect that to be include.  They are in the Windows based DAW business and if they keep developing something along those lines, it will be free to us Lifers

Yea...we will see how this pans (pun yes). In the meantime, my DAW is stable and easily accepts 3rd party plugins I find attractive. Down the road....If another DAW becomes more attractive because of my oversight, then there'll be a divorce and new marriage.

    Your welcome.

As an aside to those speculating what will happen to lifetime updates...I for example have a lifetime membership to Goldwave and they will honor that for as long as they keep "updating" If they stop updating or go under that's the chance you take when you take that option with any software.

Updating is the keyword,,, think about it for a moment. So if you truly believe Sonar will stop being updated, that's your prerogative.  Myself I think they are doing pretty good these days and I'm 90% sure the Lifetime Updates will be happening for me for a long time coming. After all , what's it to them.

In the currant activation  system we now have I believe they have shot a cannon and sunk the Pirate Ship. That must have been a huge loss of revenue right up to I think X2. When I see new users here and they say "Hi I'm using  Sonar 6-7-8-X1 etc"  I always assume Piracy.
