Very late to the party...

So I see a lot has gone on. I have been out of the loop for a while. Most all of what I am reading in just people barking at this and that. Can someone fill me in on the facts of what is truly known about what has gone on with Cakewalk and why(if it is known)?

Thanks

David

You can toss Sonar aside or like many of us stay with it and use it for another 5-10 years just like the happy people who still use Sonar 6 or 8.5.
The bottom line is, for many of us Sonar is the best DAW. Most of us tried the others and saw that most were like going back a few years in time if compaired to Sonar. All have missing features that we need.
It's paid for, it's good software and just think, you won't have to worry about the next update.

Im not switching DAWs myself.
I will continue to use Sonar until technology becomes more intelligent and Sonar becomes redundant.

Not trying to start a war, there are many with this opinion. But, another opinion is that we've moved to a new DAW (in my case Studio One Pro) and found that it's like going forward a few years! Many of the features and workflow that I wish Sonar had.

If I had known what I know now, I would have switched to S1P a few years ago and never looked back.

I'll stay with Sonar for projects that were started in it, but all my new projects are going to S1P. Take a look at some of the other DAWs, you might find that you like what you see.

I can respect where you are coming form.
But we all work in so many different ways that its impossible to make generic comparisons.
You might be more of a midi user and I might be more of an audio user and someone else in the middle.

For example, I reply heavily on Drum replacer, Region FX Melodyne and Vocal synch, FX chains.
Where someone else might not even use those things.
But I hear where your coming from. Sonar was behind in some areas but also way ahead in others.

I think the main issue with regards to continuing with SONAR, is unlike previous versions, the most recent versions (Artist/Pro/Plat) all require online authorisation, where as older versions didn't.  Gibson can claim there will be some kind of solution, however they were also selling 2018 passes right up to the point the plug was pulled, so I don't think we can actually trust anything they say.

Also, with development now ceasing, you never know when a Windows update may cause compatibility issues.  Personally, I will carry on using SONAR for as long as I can, however in the meantime I think I will be saving up for a new DAW so when things do go wrong I can switch fairly easily.  I'd like to be able to take advantage of Presonus's fantastic crossgrade offer for Studio One Professional, but I simply don't have spare cash for it right now.

when i switched i set about making a whole song in a.n.other daw(s) before deciding - quite often it's the terminology (as well as the "workflow" - gosh, that's become such a marketing term the last couple of years) that makes initial investigations slower

just a sec
