ORIGINAL: chaz

UPDATE:

Made quite a bit of progress mixing in several new tracks today, including all of Jeff's BGV tracks, Roger's two guitar solo tracks and the first half of Jerry's vocal track.

Next up will be finishing up the second half of Jerry's track, importing and working on Pluto's vocal and BGV tracks and additional tweaking as a whole.

Chaz... what about M's solo tracks? On the version i used
to do the vocals, his guitar work was outstanding. Not
taking anything away from Roger, but just wanna make
sure M's guitar work will be used also.

Hope all is well with you. How are you feeling?

we've got sort of a matrix going: this guitar with that vox with this solo ...

i think what i'm going to do is put the RAR'd up bundle file which chaz has done
on my site (has everything in there ) and one can mix and match and
learn from what chaz has done .. he's got a lot of tricks up his sleave, so i
always dissect his mixes to see what he's done. the bundle is complete and
you can mute out or enable whatever performance you so desire ;-)

the only bummer would be if you don't have the same effects .. so i'll post the
mp3s of the combos ...

jeff
ps: should be today or tomorrow.... chaz is buttoning up some loose ends and
then i'll have to do some web staging.

That would be very cool, Jeff! Hope you've got bandwidth, brother! I would think that lot's of us would like to play with mixing this, even if we didn't contribute audio tracks to the project. (I know *I'd* like to mess with it!)

This could even become like Boogie's track (Automatic Lover) that a number of us took a shot at mixing. That was actually a fun exercise.

That *is* part of the allure. But I would love to also have a shot at all the raw tracks. I don't think Jeff's suggestion precludes Chaz doing a mix or mixes, though, does it? (I'm trying to encourage you, Jeff! I guess that's obvious? )

chaz is doing all the mixing on each of the varieties . i think he's using it as kind a therapeutic thing
while he's recovering. i'm just staging stuff.

what i can do is round up all the raw tracks (of what he started with) and rar them up too (if that's what
you mean by raw tracks).

what chaz has now is a project which contains all the various permuations and he mutes or unmutes to
get the combos ;-)

I like this for out & out experimentation. . .

But, I also like this, for the learning experience of seeing what Chaz did with the tracks.

I think I'd feel much obliged no matter which way you work it. . .

[on edit] I'm still on 3.1.1 PE, though. I don't know if I can open y'all's 5.0 projects and bundles.

i've opened up a bundle from S4 back to S2 .. works just fine.... you just won't get the track folders ..
which are mighty handy BTW.

Boy Howdy!!!

M... time to move on up. You don't know what you're missing! Especially when mixing drums. Edits and crossfades have to happen to all tracks simultaneously.

Well, I certainly see features that sound good; but, otoh, my system works, it's doing what I want it to do, and I'm not scoring to picture or doing surround sound or etc.

Plus, I read all the grousing in the Sonar forum, and I'm not sure I need to take the chance. "Ain't broke? Don't fix!" That's where I'm at, currently. . . eh, I don't know. . .

Mark.....

I mixed all of the tracks in S4PE.

I do know that you can open up S4 files in S3, but since I have all of the tracks contained in different Track Folders, it might be a problem for you or anyone else still working with S3.

That said..... I will make a special bundle file with no Track Folders.

Also..... Fwiw..... The Track Folders alone are worth the upgrade, Mark. Plus, I just do not experience most of the problems everyone else has been experienceing with S4PE.

I will also make a bundle file of just the raw tracks with no FX, etc on them. Some of the ones I have now... especially, Pluto's vocal track.... needed a lot of work to get them to where they are now, but I will import the original tracks as they were before I started working on and with them.

Anyway..... Hope this helps.

That's my feeling. Someday I'll upgrade. I'm still on 2.2!

Yeah, man, sometimes it's fun to work on and tweak the PC; but, when you feel like recording and you can't because the PC needs work, it's a major drag!

I will also make a bundle file of just the raw tracks with no FX, etc on them.

Chaz, you are the major man, brother! Nice work on these mixes (um, so far I've listened to the ones that feature *me*! -- but I'm sure they're *all* good! )

Did anyone else notice how freakin' good we make Steely Dan sound, by comparison? Sheesh! (And, no, that's not a mix-related comment -- it's all groove and feel-related. I think we did some respectable work; but, well, that's why Steely Dan is Steely Dan, dagnabbit!)

I really had fun doing my bits, though. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this!!!
