ok somes answers  for teh old sonar dude like me
 2nd day of using x1a  I discovered

pick screen set 2 to get a more familiar uncluttered screen for tracking and mixing
go to main tab pick views choose console  go to the bottom un hook it and enable floatign move to second monitor

now it looks familiar and i can learn the newest features while still getting pending work done.  Giddyup

figuring out

Still don't like the color setup hard for my old eyes to see what is highlighted

can't get select button to give me the good old arrow so i can select a tract to either edit or copy

Sounds great and it is fast on my newly rebuilt I7 with 8gbs ram 4 tb of disk space!

Wow..whoever posted this "Sonar X1" is for the young is something of an idiot. How old is music? No..really..how old is..let's say..the note B? Music is timeless and everybody who make it is dealing with the oldest element of audio pleasure on earth. Music! So old, young, embrocation....or anybody trying to use this new format of the Cakewalk Daw is going to have some kind of a problem until it is completely de-bugged and that's that. Music is ageless yo. As for Ye?... I don't want to be interrupt you but he just made one of the "Greatest Albums of All Times" !

I hate to state the obvious, but here I go.

Old or young, the bugs do not care. They are persistent regardless of the end-user age.

Allot of what we see on the Sonar X1 forums deals not with age related issues, but showstopping bugs for all ages to deal with. Not a relevant post I'm afraid.

Best,

The premise of this thread is flawed on two fronts. Firstly, the actual prodcuts cakewalk makes aren't being held back at all. Secondly, the only thing the forum members can possibly hold back is the forum itself. Which has become absolutely dreadful since the announcement of X1. About a dozen people posting the same (frequently erroneous) points over and over and electing themselves as some kind of authority.

Wow, four pages.  I'm just gonna skip 'em all and say one thing:

There is no way a forum member (or a hundred forum members) can "hold back" anything.  Except themselves.

So there!  And fiddlesticks!

Okay, this is my bus stop.  I don't partake in fiddle, guitar, or drummer jokes.

But you can call me when it's time for the DJ jokes....

Sounds like a worthwhile use of your time, yeah.

Maybe when you've done that, you can write STINKY on my locker and steal my gym kit or something.

And BTW, it's Kanye not Kenya.

I think he's refering to the country, ie Kenya West, as opposed to Kenya East.

Hey Jerry, you do know that when you have the smart tool selected, it does 2 different things depending on if you are above or below the middle line of the track? Move above, and now you have the "|" tool for editing, move below the line and now you have the select tool. So, just go high and make you selection for editing and then go low to drag your selection around, without needing to cut or split. I am finding the smart tool to be very helpful.

I have had X1 since Christmas. Really like the new approach (Skylight and the Smart Tool & Multidock) I havn't been stopped by any of the newness of the interface except for the now time (I kept trying to double click the now time in the tool bar which only changes the display format) but I found how to call up the editable now time and am pretty happy about that. I am having crashes but only after a couple hours of work and a reboot and I'm back.
I'm old but like a bunch of new music while maintaining affection for tunes of old.
