Hmm my question quicly dropped out of sight so I'll stick it up again: is a 5SE -> 5PE upgrade included in this offer? I.e. if I buy 5PE now (coming from 5SE) will I get 6 for free???

thanks!

Hmmm- did you miss the very first post?

Cakewalk is offering a free upgrade on SONAR 6 when you buy SONAR 5 during the month of August, 2006.

Upgrade to SONAR 5 Studio Edition, Get SONAR 6 Studio Edition Free.

Upgrade to SONAR 5 Producer Edition, Get SONAR 6 Producer Edition Free.

Your free upgrade will be automatically shipped to you within one month of the release of SONAR 6, which will be available later this year.

If you upgraded to SONAR 5 direct from Cakewalk in the month of July, we will be offering you reduced upgrade pricing for a limited time on SONAR 6. We will make more details available about this special upgrade pricing for July's SONAR 5 upgraders at a later date. Stay tuned to the forum for updates.

I didn't miss it, just preferred to be absolutely sure (since it doesn't explicitly state that the upgrade FROM Sonar 5SE is a valid upgrade path...it only stated that TO 5PE was valid). Perhaps I was being overtly cautious. The VERY first sentence does say "when you buy Sonar 5 during the month of August, 2006" - I ALREADY own 5, so......

Carl would you mind clarifying this for me?

I have S5 Studio so I upgraded
I also have S4 PE, Studio
2.2XL

Carl,

I think I already know the answer to this, but I'd like to ask you to be sure: once an order is placed for the S5 + S6 upgrade offer, is it possible to change the shipping address after the S5 shipment and before the S6 shipment? See, the problem is that I expect to be moving in either September or October (and no, I don't yet know the new address and probably won't know until sometime in September at the earliest).

Since the shipments of S6 will only occur later this year (some weeks after the official release), and since it is unlikely that the S6 shipment would be forwarded to me if delivered to my current address (which will be my "former address" by then), it would unfortunately be wisest for me to skip this upgrade offer unless I could be certain that I'd actually be able to receive S6 at my new address (the address I wouldn't actually have yet at the time I would be placing the order).

Thanks for any comments.

Carl, I know you're busy with all these questions.. disregard my previous post. I'll just consolidated my questions here for you:

Q1: Will it cost more to upgrade from Sonar 4 Studio to Sonar 6 Studio (more than $99), than it will to go for this deal? (upg. to Sonar 5, get 6 for free..cost: $99)

Q2: If the answer to Q1 is yes.. why the change in pricing structure? Why would it cost more for Sonar 4 users to upgrade to 6 than for Sonar 5 users?

Your answers to this will help me decide if I want to go for this deal or not. :) Thanks.

Carl,
Without jeopardizing you position there and asking about S6 features, I'll ask a SE/PE question instead. I am presently using S4SE and it does all that I ask for the projects that I now use. (I mostly use MIDI driven soft synths and external devices. I do very little digital audio recording at this point, but may incorporate some in the future.) The "bells & whistles" of PE are great for the more ambitious, but we just have a small Music Ministry and use Sonar & our notebook as the band. Is there incentive enough for me to upgrade to 6SE?
How's that for an easy question with a difficult answer?

Thanks,

Yes, I think many people would describe me as such.

OK, enough of the off topic prattle.. sorry folks. Carry on.

Actually, I do have one more Q.. since they won't tell us what Sonar 6's features are, can we maybe get an estimated date when the feature list will be announced?

Hello All, My first post here. In fact, I just decided to set up a home studio and bought Sonar 5 PE, hmm, lessee, last Friday, July 28. HOWEVER, it did not arrive here until, hm, today, AUG 2. So, two questions:

Does the purchase need to be direct from Cakewalk, or can it have been purchased thru a vendor?

Since I RECEIVED it in August... ?

Peace, Everyone, and thanks for all the info I've gathered from you all so far. Hopefully I'll be contributing before long.

The price at the Cakewalk store for a first time buyer is $799, while it's only $499 at Sweetwater.

Are purchases of Sonar 5 PE made at Sweetwater also entitled to the free upgrade to Sonar 6 PE?

Hey Cakewalk Carl,

How about throwing in a half price offer for the Frontier Design Transport with the Sonar 5 PE to Sonar 6 PE upgrade.. Whew, I could sure use an incentive to upgrade since my pocket holes are growing larger and larger.

This thread has gotten funny to me.

Okay Carl, I know you can't say anything about Sonar 6, so how about this:

If Sonar 6 includes effects chains, plugin menu management, a detailed notes view, a fully customizable scripting engine, a keyboard shortcut for creating clip gain envelopes, envelope shape tools, a better lasso selection toggle, and a dynamic latency toolbar, then DON'T RESPOND AT ALL!

Thanks.

So, am I to gather from the response that you think there's something, I don't know, less than cool about buying a Cakewalk product from some place other than Cakewalk direct? I anticipate the answer to my original question, but nowhere is it made totally clear, so I thought I'd ask. So now I see this is the kind of place where if you think the question is "dumb," the asker is met with sarcasm and eye rolls. Great.

Or did I misinterpret?

Edit: I didn't mean for this to be a reply to Jesse G but to vicsant.

RE: Free upgrade to SONAR 6 2006/08/02 23:27:47 (permalink)
one thing I'm curious about...

Is Cakewalk committed to continuing Project5 as a separate program? I'm actually more interested in its pattern reusing capabilities than anything else ... and the upgrade price to it from sonar 5 is the best so, that's what I'm interested in...

but I won't need it if that feature was going to be added into Sonar 6(which i think it would be a good idea for this to happen since it would make patterns much better in Sonar)

Will the project 5 upgrade price of $99 be available to owners of Sonar 6? If so, I would rather wait to see the feature set of S6 before I go and buy P5 just to find out the features I need are redundant...

What I'm asking may be confusing but basically I'm willing to pay the upgrade to S6 and P5 to get the pattern features of P5, but if those features are going to be in S6, I don't want to buy P5 which I don't need, personally otherwise... but I don't want to not get it now, if it is needed for the features I want, and if I won't be able to get the $99 upgrade after S6 is out...

once you decipher that, I'd appreciate an answer.

Cakewalk has been saying up and down on the P5 forum that they are committed to that program. There is supposed to be a major update in early 2007.

I seriously doubt it. Are you already a registered Cakewalk user (any Cakewalk product)? The email I received clearly states:

"Cakewalk customers that buy SONAR 5 in August will receive a free upgrade to SONAR 6."

It goes on to detail you must "upgrade" from a previous version to qualify for the "free upgrade to SONAR 6"...

Perhaps I'm mistaken, but I doubt this offer is valid for first-time Cakewalk buyers...

Papa

Actually, I think it might. The first hint we had that 6 was coming was when someone posted something about a deal where you got 6 free when it came out, if you bought 5 now. The deal was for new customers. We were all wondering when the deal would be made available as an upgrade. Check with the store before you order, just in case. I wouldn't get anything at this point that didn't include the free update, unless you can get a substantial deal.

This is what a lot of us have been waiting for!!

Hello,

I see a few people here are upset about purchasing SONAR in July, because we now have the "Free upgrade to Version 6 with your SONAR 5 upgrade" offer going on in August. We have an offer coming for you that should make you feel a little better.

Anyone who purchased in July got SONAR 5 at a discount that ranged from $20-$50. If you notice, those discounted prices are now gone, and the upgrade prices have been raised to their pre-July levels. The special offer on SONAR 6 that we will be making to SONAR 5 customers who purchased in July will be to sell you your SONAR 6 upgrade for the difference in price. So if you purchased SONAR 5 last month at a $50 discount, you will get an offer on SONAR 6 for $50.

This offer will be sent out when we start pre-selling SONAR 6.

What a great company. Very impressive. That's how to acquire and retain customers. I'm sold.
