G.E.L. Thanks for the replies folks ( Really, despite my aggrivated frustrated and completely annoyed state ) I appreciate your replies, Now ... here's the scoop. I have been using sonar since version 3, I have become quite efficient at doing what i do without the need for relearning the damn interface every time, but i put up with a certain amount of it each time I upgrade, this time I was, and still am quite pissed off and frustrated because I can't afford wasting time relearning the whole damn program in order to find a convoluted way of not using an option I dont particularly need or want right now ... so for those of you telling me to read the manual or go watch some tutorials or spend some time with it... thanks but Im not a newbie and for me TIME IS MONEY!... and for those upset by my bashing the programmers, i guess your the programmers, buddies or family of the programmers and therefore sympathetic to them RE: my message, because i was under the illusion this was a " Community USER forum " and for anyone who doesn't get my point it is simply this...Adding "OPTIONS" is great and fantastic, just allow me the user / purchaser the choice! Thats why they are called OPTIONS because they are OPTIONAL, what would it really take a class a programmer to write the code for an on off button ( 5 - 10 minits work ) while I have wasted a few hours of time fooling around and " Reading the manual by the way " to try to find a way to turn it off which is why I ended up here in the first place! So once again if your a user who has replied Thanks, if your an employee or have a connection please let them know that I am not the only one who is unhappy with this .. I know of at least 3 others i have talked to that hate the fact that you can't just clik on an X and close it out ... If "time is money" as you say, then spending some time to learn new functions in any new version of a software is the best way to save time, and save yourselfe a lot of frustration. I would say that if time is so important, then reading the manual will be an investment. If you don't have this time then why did you upgrade??

Yeah, that's a ridiculous position. Time is money to me too, so I try to make sure I know what I'm doing.

If you could calm down and stop ranting, and actually explain what specific problem you're having, people could probably help you. You're not in any way forced to use the multi-dock and there are all kinds of ways of not using it if that's your thing. What there isn't is a global off button for it, so that's a deal line of discussion. Now, since time is money, apparently, do you want to spend it going ITS JUST NOT FAIR , or do you want to describe an actual real world problem you're having that we can maybe help with?

Double clicking to move the now time has never been default behaviour. If you had it like that, it must have been a setting you customised.

I don't think the programmers are the ones "wasting" your time - they simply put something out there, and you had the choice whether you wanted to buy it or not. I have been using Cakewalk since version 3 on DOS as well, and to be honest was quite happy with 8.5.3. However, I did a little research, discovered that X1 had some features that I thought I could use, and decided that it would be worth "wasting" my time to learn the new interface. Personally, I'm glad I did, because there are a lot of things in X1 that I think are brilliant changes to the old Microsoft-dictated UI paradigm, and I am happy to learn something a little different. If you: (a) did your research, and (b) read the forum posts, then you knew it was going to be different, and you knew what was going to be coming ... so why buy it? Why not just stick with what you had? Just because Adobe cranks out a new version of Photoshop every so often doesn't mean that I have to run out and buy it if the old version still suits my purposes. Sorry, I just don't get the complaint.

Sonar X1 was a big change from 8.5, and I don't think that Cakewalk tried to keep it a secret for anyone. So everyone who did upgrade should be prepared for some new functions and changes, and also spend some time to learn the new functions.........But this discussion is soooo 2011. I like the mulidock ( D, Shift+D and Control+shift+arrows is the keys to get in the comfort sone) and my workflow is a lot better now. ...and don't forget screensets!

I am here because after doing everything i could think of to get rid of this I thought I would come and ask for assistance from others, who might have found something that i couldn't ( I like many of the things in X1 ) this is one I don't and would have liked to have the option to turn it off ... I brief demo would not have shown this tendancy to automatically grab things into the dock and most probably would not have told me I can't choose not to use it either ... so thanks for SFA

But if you could just take the energy that you use to "fight it" by looking to find a way to do it the "Old Way", just try the new way. Most of us found it to be much better. Steady, post like that get you labels..... I talk from experience. @The OP. I've already stated it once but if you actually ask a question about how to do X you'll probably get half a dozen different ways from users that work differently to each other and you. That may actually be more productive for you than picking fights with 95% of the forum users will be.

As I already said, there's no global off button for the multi-dock. However, it's not the case that you have to use it. I have a number of views set to not open in the multi-dock, and some others which I do have opening in the multi-dock. You can set this all up fairly easily in a dummy project which you can save as a template. Willing to discuss this more, but ONLY if you chill out and go and find some manners.

John If I am irritated its because i have had to endure replies from people who did not READ my posts, gave me glib and insulting replies and castigated me for coming here frustrated and at my wits end trying to find out a way to not have to deal with this, that does not involve a whole slew of messing around... apparently there is none ... i get that ... I'm not happy about that, am I not entitled to be a bit peeved at that? am i willing to work out another way .. yes, if anyone can take a moment to lay it out in a step by step using english rather than acronyms I don't know what the meaning of is ( because I have never been here before ) and am not up to speed on the lingo ... alot of the illeged guru's here seem to take alot for granted and leap to replies without stooping to put themselves in my shoes. As i have previously stated I have relearned the upgrades in the past, thats how I came to be at x1 from version 3 ... I really wish people would READ my posts before telling me to" read the manual" which as ihave also previously stated i have and there is no direct way to do what i would like ... so i am heaped with insults and abuse...and am trying to keep from blowing a gasket

I'm obviously missing something here. I've read all of your posts and I haven't seen a single question to answer yet, other than can I close the multidock which was answered in post 2 IIRC (If I recall correctly) I've asked twice as several others have what are you actually trying to do that requires you to close the multidock. Try that approach rather than ranting that no one is helping....

I'm a'guessing here but I think what his main issue is is that he does not want the multidock to automatically open with something already preloaded everytime he doubleclicks a track to edit something. As for reading up on a new GUI maybe the manual to be read is Scott Garrigus' http://www.garrigus.com/pwrbkinf.asp?BookID=13...it is a lot clearer on the overall thing.

As John pointed out, double clicking a clip does not set the NOW time. And, Double clicking on a clip can be set to a few different actions. And, Are you referring to audio clips or midi clips, or both. And, you really need to learn some people skills. I am amazed at how nicely the folks here are treating you especially after your initial rant. I wouldn't give you the time of day. But, then again, I guess I just did.
