HOW DO I DISABLE THE MULTIDOCK COMPLETELY !!!!!!!!

Does anyone have any idea of how I can disable the multidocking function completely when i don't want it?... I spend too much editing time closing or undocking things as I move them around my desktop ... it's really becoming very annoying ... further to that, when i double clik on tracks to edit, the multidock pops  open with the loop function pre loaded ... when I want things I'll SELECT THEM! until i do, i don't want things automatically happening ... GRRRRRRRR !

Thanks for the reply ... Your kidding me?  They better come up with an option to turn this on and off or I'm done with Sonar for good.. it's a complete time waster as far as im concerned ... don't give me options that I can't select or deselect...you don't know what i want or when... so stop trying to tell me what options i need... dickhead programmers!

If you take 2 minutes to explain what it is you are trying to do within Sonar there's probably a way of doing that which may or may not involve the multidock.....

I do it like this:

I open something I don't need at the moment, say the piano roll, and undock it using the double-window icon on the right of the multidock. The multidock now disappears (Strangely, draggîng the tab off the multidock does not work).

I then reduce the piano roll and I now have a bit more usable height for the track view.

But don't close the piano roll because the multidock comes back.

Not working here.

There was a hint of sarcasm in my reply... D for D*ckhead.

On a non-sarcastic note, D and SHIFT D will help you manage the state of the active dock by either, minimizing, restoring or maximizing it.

Well,  i feel your pain,  but keep in mind the whole idea behind the Multidock thing is so you don't have to spend anytime moving things around on your desktop.  Just hit a key and boom...you are there.  Same with screensets. I believe Fastbikerboy has help video(s) on this.

Double clicking on a track should not cause the multidock and/or loop function to open.  You might have the Multidock  pulled too large or something strange.  Play with your setup then save to a screenset.  You might need to spend sometime with the manual or some tutorial.   Once you get this figured, chances are you will  be very happy with the new workflow.

I have mine configured with Sonar Plus totally hiding the dock...

I have the PRV set to open in it's old-style mode (I forget the letters, but it's something like MSI)

I also setup the CV so that it's as large as my screen...

I had to remove each from the dock and then adjust it's settings, then hide the dock with plus...

It stays that way now...

When you double click on audio tracks, then selecting the loop window is exactly what you've done. You can change this, however. My top tip here is go and make a cup of tea and sit down with the manual for a bit.

Ah. We were trying to get rid of it.

If you press Alt+3 you get the piano roll (but it peeks up under the track view, so you need to drag the splitter bar all the way up)

Now, when you press Alt+1, you get track view. D also seems to work for some reason.

The other views also work traditionally again (although the Alt+n numbers have changed).

So Alt+2 opens Console view, Alt+6 opens Staff view, etc.

But if I undock, strange things begin to happen.

If I press Alt+1, I get track view again. But none of the other Alt+n keys work anymore. I now need to press D!

I think screen sets are easier to use. But then I want to get rid of the Multidock so I can get some screen space back.

When the PRV is free of the multidock... If you go to the top LEFT corner and click on the tiny icon next to the Menu word "File", you should find the three letter (again I don't remember but it's something similar to msi) You will have set it to be as it was in 8.5... then using Sonar Plus to totally hide the multidock and you're there...

Just remember that you need to do similar with any windows that open in the dock... If you try to open something and it doesn't seem to open, unhide the multidock using Sonar Plus, then drag the window out of the multidock and re-hide the dock... I then reset my normal template so that these decisions persist....

Yeah...  good point.  And "or else!" comments like this don't really help - "They better come up with an option to turn this on and off or I'm done with Sonar for good."    Somehow I don't see the bakers changing the multidock behavior which seems to be exactly as it was designed to work.   Sounds like Sonar Plus is what the OP needs...

Take some time to learn the multidock and you will learn to appreciate it. I hated XI until I used it for a while and got familiar with it. MUch better with it now and it's actually quite handy.

I personally love what the multi-dock does, and I simply don't care about that small bar across the bottom.   But I still think Sonar Plus is a good option for those that just can't (or don't want to) get around how the MD operates.

Thanks for the replies folks ( Really, despite my aggrivated frustrated and completely annoyed state ) I appreciate your replies, Now ... here's the scoop.
I have been using sonar since version 3, I have become quite efficient at doing what i do without the need for relearning the damn interface every time, but i put up with a certain amount of it each time I upgrade, this time I was, and still am quite pissed off and frustrated because I can't afford wasting time relearning the whole damn program in order to find a convoluted way of not using an option I dont particularly need or want right now ... so for those of you telling me to read the manual or go watch some tutorials or spend some time with it... thanks but Im not a newbie and for me TIME IS MONEY!... and for those upset by my bashing the programmers, i guess your the programmers, buddies or family of the programmers and therefore sympathetic to them RE: my message, because i was under the illusion this was a " Community USER forum "  and for anyone who doesn't get my point it is simply this...Adding "OPTIONS" is great and fantastic, just allow me the user / purchaser the choice! Thats why they are called OPTIONS because they are OPTIONAL, what would it really take a class a programmer to write the code for an on off button ( 5 - 10 minits work ) while I have wasted a few hours of time fooling around and " Reading the manual by the way "  to try to find a way to turn it off which is why I ended up here in the first place!
So once again if your a user who has replied Thanks, if your an employee or have a connection please let them know that I am not the only one who is unhappy with this .. I know of at least 3 others i have talked to that hate the fact that you can't just clik on an X and close it out ...

When you double click a track, Sonar opnes the "loop function preloaded" (loop construction)???
That's because you (when double clicking a track) give Sonar the command to do so .
What kind of editing do you want to do that needs double clicking, exept loop editing??

G.E.L. -

You are not alone. Many folks, long-time SONAR users, do not "get" the multidock, and do not see it as an improvement.

This doesn't make them stupid. About the worst you could say is that  they are unwilling to change or compromise.

In my case, I do not appreciate that the multidock is better than the window management in SONAR 8.x, and there is nothing else in the X1 release that compensates for the negative aspects of multidock, in my opinion.

The SonarPlus utility mentioned above goes quite a long way to reducing the negative aspects of the multidock. I'd say "check it out" but with X1D on the horizon, we have no guarantee that SonarPlus will be updated (it is version-specific).

Seriously though G.E.L. I'm curious where you specifically read Multidock is an OPTION? Skylight is not an OPTION (AFAIK) just as Multidock is not an OPTION (AFAIK).

I get that you (and three others) don't like it but calling it somthing it is NOT is not really an OPTION, IMHO.

In previous versions double clicking would bting the now marker to the point reqired and highlighted the track no? then you could split at that point or proceed to do whatever you inteded to do from that point. when one becomes accustomed over a long period of usage its annoying to do something from a learned habit and find it does something else.

Re:HOW DO I DISABLE THE MULTIDOCK COMPLETELY !!!!!!!! 2012/03/03 13:11:17 (permalink)
One of the reasons I updated to X1 is because of the Multidock. I have two screens, and float the MD to the second screen and load all kinds of stuff there. I have a few suggestions to give the bakers to improve that situation, but for the most part, it is working as intended for me.

I also have another single monitor PC I use also. And for when I do work on it I find the Screen Sets to be the ticket.

Like Stickman says, your not alone. Many of us found it a PITA to "Learn/Adjust" to the new UI. But if you could just take the energy that you use to "fight it" by looking to find a way to do it the "Old Way", just try the new way. Most of us found it to be much better.

Which is what a lot of us are trying to tell you.
