Craig, I don't know what else I could say that hasn't already been said above. I will be seeing you over at Harmony Central, as I have been for a while now.

For me it seemed only fitting that an old Celtic melody was appropriate at a time like this. It is called "The Parting Glass" and it seems to sum up a lot of what has been said here, especially the following verse:

"Of all the comrades that e'er I had, They're sorry for my going away.
And all my sweethearts that e'er I had, They'd wish me one more day to stay.
But since it fell unto my lot, That I should rise and you should not,
I gently rise and softly call, Good night and joy be to you all."

Here's a nice version of the song by George Donaldson

Thanks for all you have done, and tried to do for the people..(and others here I respect)..I respect that most of all..(the Helpers of Life)..In the world, you are of....You are of the world...so, where are you going really?.....No where is the truth, if you stay tied to the world!...

But if you feel that you want to enter the Earth and the kinds of life in that living body of unknowns...(respect is important to have given, and received...sort of a yin of yang)...or move above it, or go below it..to avoid collisions when necessary ...

Some may say..To keep the peace, until all is known of why, or what, or when, it is necessary to Come to help save some, weed some out, and whack others to stop the harming of Life, and our own kind in kinds........what ever that may be now being mixed into it by others and some bent ones....No doubt about it.

We, ( who say it all sucks?) do not like to be ripped off by anyone or anything...(or be harming or be harmed anything or anyone )..It is as it is, because it is as was once upon a time...dug up again in time this time...

So, be mindful in the matrix Mr. Anderton "The machine is still telling me your Name is spelt wrong".....lol....Yah think something is wrong with the machine and the codex perhaps?.....

Who would of thunk it, be is said..."They make it talk and speak, and do, and even move, and be taking away the hand and the mind and the heart"....But it is not alive at all....And so, no regards for it...but the People....Now that is the gold, and the maker, and the sower, and dreamer.....When they start doing for the greater good of life, in all of life, for all of life...what is best for the whole....Is when the machine stops "ticking away, the moments that make up a dull day"....Of troubles....Perhaps?

Cheers on your adventures in the Matrix.....We hope you conquer your dreams, and come out of the world unblemished, and be loved by all living in the way of the Lord!

P.S :
Speaking through the machine...are many spirits saying Be blessed, best of hope!...keep on rockin the cradle with love, respect, and forgiveness, of many trespassing onto and over, and upon...for in doing this...You walk on sound ground to witness the song remains the same.

Regards.
If songs be a good thing...And I hope they are of good things...so when sowing seeds, we make the Edens be born a multiple of one.

Here is one for you to ponder the universal ride through: A celtic Dream.

That's always been up to Sound on Sound, it's a separate activity from what I did for Cakewalk.

I hope he has lifetime updates!

The bigger question is if we will all have lifetime updates if Gibson is making such poor decisions to get rid of the best "face of the company" employee they had.

I agree if it's solely Gibson making this decision, it's one of their poorest decisions...

Craig - I first started reading your articles way back when you would write about cool electronic projects on guitar effects, etc.  Just want to add, that I truly hope this is a positive event for you.  To me, it feels like the passing of an era, one where, with your presence and input, Cakewalk flourished like never before.   Your boundless curiosity and enthusiasm to try all things Cakewalk was infectious and upped all of our games.
Wishing you truly all the best.

This is upsetting. Gord Downie dies last night and Craig gets tossed. That's a lot of upheaval in 12 hrs. Another example of Gibson's amazing ability to come up with stupid ideas. What can you expect from the guys that gave us e-tuners.

Craig, I know you'll do just fine, you're a bundle of skills and knowledge. Thanks for your contribution to this community and many lively debates.

Well I always said I wasn't a Cakewalk employee, and now I'm not a Gibson employee, either. Gibson was the first job I ever had in my life, and it's been a wonderful and extremely educational experience with many truly great people. However looking back, a lot of projects that meant a lot to me have fallen by the wayside while I was there...it's time to get back to writing books, doing workshops, consulting to the industry, and making more music.

Even though I did a lot of initiatives for Cakewalk on my own time, that will no longer be possible because I'll need to spend a while re-establishing connections with former clients and publishers. So I won't have time to do the Tip of the Week, any more books on SONAR, the eZine, 30th Anniversary freebies, forum support, SONAR-specific seminars, etc.

I've really enjoyed interacting with all of you - yes, even the malcontents who think everything sucks...they're part of the world, too. I'll continue to stick around the forum because it feels like a bunch of friends, and of course, I'll continue to use SONAR. I'd also like to thank you for the appreciation you've shown for my efforts. I'm not perfect, but I do strive to be the best person I can be.

I hope many good things come your way. You've always done so much to help so many. Here's to a big payback for all your endeavors!

I haven't read the other replies yet, but I'm sure many others feel the same. I'm glad you will still be around the forum and of course, using Sonar and continuing to make music.

You've been a good friend and always putting out effort to help others... i hope your stay with Gibson was good for you and ended by your design.

Thanks!

Well I have to disagree there...I wish all my guitars had them, it's so convenient to just push a button in the middle of recording and have the guitar in tune. Besides people can choose a guitar with automatic tuning, or not.

As to some of the other comments in this thread, I don't think Gibson made a dumb decision with respect to me. Over the years what I've done at Gibson has changed dramatically, and my skill set is less relevant overall to the company than it was originally. Gibson made it EXTREMELY clear that the decision had nothing to do with my performance or contributions at all, and they're keeping me in mind for future projects. I'm friends with the people there, and that won't change.

I can't emphasize enough how much I got out of this experience. I am very fortunate to have spent the time I did, and I'm sure I'll feel fortunate about whatever I'll be doing next.

Hopefully this isn't a glimpse in to the future of what is to become of Gibson (and Cakewalk for that matter).
I don't really want to ask any questions right now because I have too much respect for Mr. Anderton and it would be unfair for any of us to ask him to explain the reasons behind what is going on at Gibson or Cakewalk.
I just want to simply offer my thanks. Im really grateful.

It is this way of viewing things that have endeared you to us. You have always tried to see the half full cup. Man, will you be missed. I just wonder if there is a way for someone to reconsider this. I was sort of expecting this for awhile now ever since the ezine was dropped. I posted a very negative view of CW for doing it and it was pulled almost instantly without comment.

Sonar is still a great DAW. I wonder how long it will stay so. Only time will tell.

Craig, you were the perfect liaison between Gibson and Cakewalk.
In that sense, I'm sad to see you leaving...
But, the world is full of possibilities; one door closes... and many more open.
Thru the years, you've been an inspiration, guiding light, and mentor to many of us.
Keep up the great work!

I could not have said it any better than this.

But I will add;
Thank you Craig. You are an inspiration to many of us. Good luck man.

I'm hoping you'll at least continue to monitor this forum and chime in once in a while with your usual pearls of wisdom.

Yes! Really! How you came up with some of the uses for features in Sonar...... Man, you gotta keep coming back!

John

Sonar is still a great DAW. I wonder how long it will stay so. Only time will tell.

To be honest John, if CW ended Sonar support today, I would still use what I have for years to come and never outgrow what I already have. We live in very fortunate times.

Again, I really appreciate all the good wishes, it means a lot. I'll be fine, it hasn't even been 24 hours but word gets out fast...multiple companies have approached me about my availability to do consulting and generate content. It's all good. Being part of Gibson was a highlight of my career.

BTW, Henry let me keep the Les Paul Standard that had been on loan and is in my videos, as well as the EB bass I used for the Gibson Bass expansion pack. I feel very much appreciated.

But it's a bogus "goodbye thread." To quality as a goodbye thread that meets the appropriate specifications, I need to say that I"m switching to Reaper...and I'm not
