He can't be that busy, he's only got one thing to do: a global search and replace to change 'Sonar 8' to 'Sonar X1'.

benstat He can't be that busy, he's only got one thing to do: a global search and replace to change 'Sonar 8' to 'Sonar X1'. Ha! I wish it were that easy. Yes, I'm very hard at work on the book and there's a boatload of new content because not only is it covering X1, but the features from 8.5 as well. I don't know exactly when it will become available, but a guess would be late January or early February. However, it'll be up on the online sites for pre-order much sooner. You can bet I'll let you know when that happens. You can also keep an eye on my site or the DigiFreq site. Thanks so much for asking! Scott -- Scott R. I'd buy it anyway, but if I could get it on Kindle, I'd actually spring for the device. Kindle is proprietary, right? So no chance of piracy? Edit: Looked up the Nook, and it looks good too.

Well, at the risk of turning this thread into an advertisement for Amazon or Barnes & Noble, I've got to say I love my Nook. The Nook is an Android-based device, and I've received a couple of OS updates while at home connected to my WIFI. In each case, it went smoothly and I had no problems. One of the updates included a chess game and a web browser. I use my Nook to read books, newspapers, and some magazines. Have used it a lot in doctor office waiting rooms, on planes, and even in the bathroom (ahem!) because it can carry thousands of books at a time and it gets no heavier, whoo hoo! I got my Nook last January, and have read at least a half-dozen books and a few dozen newspapers and magazines. Both Kindle and Nook have come a long way in the time they've been out. Nook is coming out with a color version soon. Both will store content in PDF format, but I think using the device's proprietary format is better for the author and publisher. And (usually) makes for a more readable book for the reader. Nook and Kindle both have PC and smartphone readers too, so you could possibly access your purchased books from other devices. I know Kindle actually keeps track of your position in the book you're reading so that when you go from PC to book reader to iPhone, you always start where you left off. Don't know if Nook does this (I only use Nook from my Nook device). The biggest challenge I see with a book such as the "Sonar Power!" series is that it is a reference book; not meant to be read front-to-back. Nook works great for novels that you read sequentially, but it could stand for some smoother navigation improvements for "random access" type of reading such as that you might engage in for reference material such as dictionary, thesaurus, "how to" books, software user manuals, the Bible, etcetera. Having said that, I would still get Power! if it were available in Nook format. As long as it were priced reasonably. Ya gotta watch out for the price before you hit the "buy now" button. I saw one book that was $70.00!

Scott's books always start off with the real basic stuff before launcing into more advanced areas, so just wait for the new one - it will contain EVERYTHING you need to get going, and way beyond that as well.

syntheticpop will the new book be enough to cover everything i need to learn about using Sonar 8.5? or would i still need to pick up a copy of Sonar 8 Power? Normally, I would agree with what Bristol_Jonesey mentioned. But unfortunately, SONAR X1 works very differently than past versions, so if you're staying with 8.5, then you'll probably need the SONAR 8 Power book. It really depends on your level of SONAR knowledge. If you're already good with the basics, etc. then you may be okay with the new SONAR X1 Power book, but you'll have to keep in mind that the interface is entirely different including the menus, toolbars, keyboard shortcuts, etc. So none of those will match your 8.5 version because the book will be covering X1. When I say that the book will also include 8.5 features, I mean those things such as AudioSnap 2, Matrix View, etc. Those major features that were added in 8.5 and still work the same in X1. Thanks! When Sonar Power 8 was first released in a Kindle form it was only available for the device itself, not available for the "PC for Kindle" format/version. Since I contacted Scott with this info and lo and behold... soon after it was available in that format. (Again, thanks Scott!) Please remind the publishers of this need. It really makes it easy for me to use it in this format when I am running SONAR and have my laptop open nearby and scan either the SONAR Reference guide in pdf or Scotts book open on the "PC for Kindle" application while in a session/project. Of course I love to curl up in a chair and read (or reread) Sonar Power 8 with my Kindle when I am ready to digest a chapter's worth of info...but as a quick look up tool the "PC for Kindle" format really helps...

For those trying to choose between the Kindle and the Nook, I own both. I prefer the Kindle. The folder organization is top notch, the Nook's structure is silly really. Check out that "feature" on the Nook websites. Also, and the main reason, I prefer the Kindle is the way if displays .pdf files. It allows pan and zoom and horizontal dsplays. I have a lot of manuals on the Kindle. The Kndle is also lighter. One downside is that the page buttons on the Kindle are placed so that I often press them when repositioning my hand. By the way, I am comparing the non color Nook version. I wouls suggest taht you go to a Best Buy and compare the units side by side.

Do you know why it is so? Hi Syl, It could be that Safari Books need to be in PDF format and the SONAR Power books are no longer available in that format starting with SONAR 6 Power. The reason for this is because the PDF was being posted all over the Internet, which hurts sales quite a bit. The Kindle and Nook formats are protected, so it's much easier for the publisher to support those formats, since they know they won't lose sales. Thanks very much for reading my books!
