I wached a friend of my taking his first steps with X1 (demo version) and he was up and running in a very short time. I must point out he had no experience with Sonar version 8.5 or lower. In short - he was doing a lot more in a lot less time than I did starting with Sonar 4.
And you sat back and watched him struggle without giving any guidance? Really? This anecdote sounds too good to be true, in addition to being anecdotal.
Let me know when you have the results from your other 49 friends starting with X1, and the 50 that start with 8.5.
Well - that last bit can take a bit of time I am afraid...
And sitting back and let him struggle? Well - two remarks on that...
a) I am a utterly friendly kind of bad sadist, so yes- I let him struggle...
b) That is - if it was a struggle, but in reality it was not...
Really - I am not around when he has to do it on his own, so it is better to let him find out everything an let him struggle a bit if necessary. He did remarkably well, and did not need much help. You see - he had the reference manual on another screen (I use two screens - and sometimes two computers at the same time), and he was able to find almost anything he needed.
The person I am talking about is in the process of building his own tiny little home studio. He cannot leave home that often, so he asked me to build this very basic studio and advise him (within a not too big budget), with the basic hard- and software. The reason he cannot leave home that often is he has a progressing muscle disease, that has binded him to a wheel chair and makes travelling a real pain. So - not much choice here. He lives in a different town, so I cannot visit him that often and this is the reason I let him find out most -if not all- on his own.
So - yes, it's only one person and not a full test - I admit...
