How do I open the Synth Rack in X1?

I have just created a simple track with a Vox Continental plug.

I guess I should have said I want it to open the synth rack right then when I created the track, but I didn't.

Now I want to change some settings and I have gone through all the menus and looked at all the icons to find where I can open the synth rack or the plug itself, but I sure as heck cannot find it.

In 8.5 I had no difficulties.

Where is it in X1?

Press B to open the Browser (on the right side of the SONAR workspace). Then click the Synth tab (at the top of the Browser) to access the Synth Rack.

You can instantly get the plug-in's interface without going to the synth rack by double-clicking the track icon in the Intrument/MIDI/Audio track associated with it.

How much of a kickback does Cakewalk get for creating the most unintuitive version of Sonar ever?

$399 retail. That's less than most of its competitors.

I don't think any complex software could be considered intuitive.

If you have dual screens you can have the track view in a single window and undock the multidock window and have the console view, browser, FX and synth rack all reside on the second monitor.

I'm not sure why people believe a piece software with as many features as x1 should be so intuitive you wouldn't have to open the manual.

I have to disagree.  considering when you open x1 the browser is docked right and there is a little button up top that says synth and even a picture of a synth that seems more intuitive than a drop down menu.

You do have a point...   Would someone who had never seen 8.5 know that the Synth Rack was consiidered a "view"?  Maybe, but maybe not.  However, if someone had accidentally closed the Browser without looking, they'd probably never know it was there either.    I just don't think there's a win-win for everyone no matter how it's spun.

But at the same time, I have PTLE 7.4 and IMO there is nothing about the Browser approach that isn't soooo much more intuitive than how PTLE does it.   I also have S1 Artist, and while it's a little different I'd say the process is fairly comparable to SONAR overall.   I wonder how other DAWs like Cubase and Logic handle synths...

Having to open a window as the only way to gain access other stuff is not intuitive. Has nothing to do with having used 8.5. It has to do with using windows software for nearly 25 years and expecting there to be access via menus for nearly every task.

The inspector and the browser are nice improvements. But making them essential is silly at best. No reason to not have a shortcut on the view menu.

that doesn't make sense as view-synth rack would open a window correct-the synth rack......the synth rack is basically built into the browser now... B-click synth tab seems pretty easy. both take 2 actions.....  If you just want the property page for the synth double click the icon on the track in track view..

view- browser- click synth rack tab is another option if you want the menu option

Or for a 1 click option make a screenset that brings up synth rack and press corresponding number key.....

that is 4 ways to get there seems pretty intuitive to me.......

    LOL!  Totally agree.

It's another one of those areas where the CW software designers, having arrived at the new look and its associated templates, proceeded to re-locate some functions in order to align them with that new look, even in the face of making them more difficult/clunky to find.  It would have been better to leave the old routes still there as an alternative, eg like the one above, instead of rigidly applying the new design template for the sake of uniformity.  That wouldn't have been heresy as there are various functions still in X1 with more than one route so having a few more for the sake of user choice would do no harm.  For example, I still load audio FX by right clicking which I find a lot quicker than opening the new browser.

Based on Amazon showing two chapters on CAL, I got this book for Sonar 7.

I was deeply disappointed to discover these chapters only had some basic examples and internet links.

You can instantly get the plug-in's interface without going to the synth rack by double-clicking the track icon ...

I disabled icons in order to regain some screen real estate lost in the move from 8.5 to 1X

Brundle is referring to the embedded icon in the track header - not the icons we can insert in the CV for example.

I'm not sure why people believe a piece software with as many features as x1 should be so intuitive you wouldn't have to open the manual.

Cakewalk manuals are always a version or two behind.

I promise you that how to find the synth rack is in the on-line help and the PDF for Sonar X1.

That's how I did it in 8.5 but in X1 I don't see any icon in the track header.
