I've never used Winamp. I looked at their site. So, is this a free plug that replaces Windows media player? There is a pro version and a not pro version. Even though I haven't set up ARC yet, I can understand that I would probably want everything in my studio running thru it. It would be nice to just have it laying somewhere on the audio output. Anyway, so, How does this work with WinAmp? Is it (WA) always open running in the background? I mean, if you can assign a VST (ARC) to it (Am I correct in assuming that?), Then, doesn't it always have to be open? Or, can you configure WinAmp to just always open and load ARC as it opens? So far ARC is working wonders for me as I haven't had to go in the studio and listen to anything since I got the box:) Sorry about your Jampoints cecelius. Bummer.

Ah, I missed that the first time around. Definitely contact our support and we'll get you the version you need. I'm fairly certain after you register the serial and it authorizes it online you'll be able to download the VST/RTAS versions. Pm me your ticket number and I'll be sure to follow it on my side with the Support Manager.

Winamp is a music player like iTunes, and it even plays Apple Lossless files (I think that required a separate download). They do have a paid version, but I didn't see any need to get it myself and I'm running the free version. They do allow you to run a single VST on it, so I have ARC running. I can now listen to my entire music library through ARC in the studio - GREAT for reference purposes! It's been really fun to listen to some favorite songs through ARC...

I just ordered ARC today (sweet deal at $199) and have a question for all ARC users - When you did the measurement(s) where were you in the room? Should I assume in your chair in the sweet spot and if so, where did you position the mic? Thanks!

The videos I've seen don't tell you much about the details. Such as, What about my body? That's a pretty big sound absorber me thinks., Also, It gives 12 calibration points but they recommend 20, So, where do you do those? And, where are the buttons in the software for 13-20?

The calibration tool will enable the Next button at 12, but you can keep clicking the button to do another calibration until you hit 32 (I think). Don't click Next accidentally (like I did) or it will save your calibration settings and you'll have to start over to do more (from the beginning). I would have liked to see an option to keep going when you click Next - it would have saved some time. I sort of ducked behind the mic stand (and I moved the chair out of the room) because the mic has to go where you sit. I suppose I could have raised the mic stand and used the boom to come down in front of the chair and left the chair. I might try that... PS: Do it right and you will be an ARC believer! :)

Thanks James. I went through a practice run and saw the numbers continue. IK support responded with a new serial# that I used to download the latest ARC zip. Haven't even touched the CD. Anyway, I'm not having a good install experience. The calibrator worked fine I guess. But, the plug first of all wouldn't show up (I had a successful authorization). Scanned the plugs still nothing in 8.53 32 bit. Then I try it in X1, OK, there it is. It shows up in the manager but not in the fx bin ("all" chosen). So, I go look at the properties and "enable as a plug in" is unchecked. Huh. So, I check that. OK, up and running. Ok, so I move to 64 bit. Same mess there. I couldn't get it to work. Uninstalled everything. I don't know what to do now. I do remember the install had a check box for the 64 bit version but it didn't have a size next to it (187kbits or something) as the 32bit and the rtas version did. I guess there is no 64 bit version. That's not right. And, the authorization manager program gave me some grief in that it said I had the wrong version and directed me to download a new version. Did that. I'm stumped.

it's recommended to do at least 20 measurement points or more for the calibration of ARC. I did the 14 that are mapped out in the manual on page 32 here: http://download.ikmultimedia.com/html/arctdm/download/ARC-1.3-User-Manual.pdf the last one is 14. 1 and 14 are singular in their mapping (if that makes sense) . as all the other measurement points are dual/stereo (ie: 2-3, 4-5, 6-7 etc.). Ok, so where do you put the mic for measurement points beyond 14. And, shouldn't 14 then be paired with 15?

Do as many as you can, I'd suggest about 30. P.S. don't know if it was mentioned. Keep trim at '0' Don't use 'speaker delay trimming'.

Thanks Carl. So, just anywhere in the sweet spot? And, change 14 as per the manual to a L/R pair with 15? And then, 30 would basically be where 14 is in the manual? I'm assuming you have to get the L/R pairing accurate or you get imbalances and phasing.

I'm assuming you have to get the L/R pairing accurate or you get imbalances and phasing. First the sweet spot, then L-R points ( IIRC the last measurement is a single point, not the same sweet spot but somewhere middle / i.e. mono, like the first ). You do need to measure though, either with a plumb-bob or tape measure/ yard stick so the the L-R points are equidistant. Myself I used both a plastic carpet chair mat & an lightweight carpet from home depot using magic marker & duct tape. Some create templates for later use. The points can be also be outside the listening area too, farther back or father side to side L-R but the more measurement points the better.

the drawings in the manual seem to be all within 12" of "the sweet spot" It sure would be nice if IK was a little more precise other than showing you 14 spots and then saying the rest are up to you. I don't know how the engine works, but I'm assuming that depending where you are in the cycle, L/R is pretty important.

I downloaded Winamp and am sort of petrified to install it. LOL. Yea, I know... Since my network is usually on and this thing has lots of options for groovy/wonderful (sarcastic) things to be done on the internet, I'm a little concerned. The install gives a few choices of full, lite, standard, and one other I think. I couldn't find any reference to which one(s) support VST. Just wondering if anyone knows if the lite version will allow ARC ?

Can you use Arc with a sub hooked up? Regarding Winamp, I can't believe some of you have never used it or heard of it. Winamp is the bomb. It let's you add CD's to the online CD Database, even custom ones you make and give out to people. It's a 1,000 times better than Windows Media Player, but then again what isn't? :) You can turn off all the online stuff in Winamp in Options easily. The full blown version, minus the ability to burn CD's and make MP3's, is free.

I did not want to install the 32-bit version in case that made me take a return trip through IK's registration hell. I ended up installing 32-bit ARC on an old computer, grabbed the 32-bit dll and copied it onto my music computer and then deleted the ARC install. I found no success in getting ARC to work with WinAmp ... for reasons I can't recall. But another free download media player called FooBar along with another free widget that allows one to host VSTs in FooBar (don't recall the name ... I'm not in front of my music computer) worked like a charm.

When you download ARC the installer asks 32 or 64 bit. There aren't 2 separate registrations to go through or installers to download.

Your more than welcome to, but the next time you need to install new IK software you'll have to reinstall it again to authorize it. We prefer the current registration process to iLok or other authorization management.
