I'm considering the loyalty upgrade
but I'm very skeptic. I've looked at the description and most of the NEW things for X3 are plugins. what is there in X3 that I don't already have in X2 that would be worth a hundred bucks? I'm cereal here. no Buffoonery!

I was very skepitcal about the colour thing but the way they have implemented colours for tracks associated to busses is really rather good. ARA and Melodyne integration is a big step forward, if you need it.

yeah, but I don't need Melodyne. I already own Editor. how is ARA integrated? I missed that part. I already have Finale with Garritan and ARA there. how does having ARA in Sonar help me? color customizations would be nice, but I'm not willing to pay $100 for them.

The integration is the cool part. If you have Editor it just becomes "part of Sonar" and very easy to use. I previously owned Essentials but upgraded after getting X3 and seeing how the intigration works.

Comping is different. Some say better, others say not so. Craig Anderton says you need to learn the new method(s) and not assume that it is the same as before.

You will get some new bugs. None of them show stoppers, just a few more niggles. Best of all, you get to go from install right to X3e (skipping a, b, c & d).

I wasn't really happy with x2, I tried the x3 demo and decided to buy it because it works much better on my system. I really like the fly-out eq and siince i didn't have a lot of vst's, the nomad vst's are most welcome. Try before you buy, I would say. Also it was really cheap to upgrade ; ) Rik

I'm also with X2 and am thinking of getting this upgrade.......the plugins + the overall stability of X3 is my driving force. I think it's worth the $99 fee and may not need to upgrade for awhile (X4? ). I suppose all I need now is a Soundcloud account.

automatic online backup...so far I have NEVER been satisified with any automatic backups. and even if it really WOW'd me, I'm sure I'd have to pay extra for more than what...5G of storage? meh. not sure what "fly out EQ" is but I could be interested in that if it's something I think it might be. I don't care for paying for a bunch of new VST's, FX or instruments. I have a lot. Try before I buy is not a bad piece of advice, tho!

But I'm not interested in paying cakewalk for plugins anymore unless I specifically want them. paying $99 for an upgrade just to get a bunch of plugins is not appealing to me. stability - I've not had an issue with since 8.5.

Yeah, if you have most of Toontrack and/or BFD then AD won't float your boat (IMHO of course). The "flyout EQ" is one of those things that is not worth the upgrade on their own, but combine with other features to make the whole worthwhile.

I haven't installed X3 yet, because my hardware needs upgrading. However, I have been reading comment about R-MIX and V-Vocal. If you use them, install X3 on the same DAW as X2 or you'll lose them. They're not included with X3. I'm sure others will provide more detail on this.

I think as long as you have the X2 install files you can do a custom instalation and just select these two??

The integration of Melodyne is almost worth it on it's own. Very slick compared to the clunky way it worked before. You could also sell your new melodyne licence to someone else who doesn't have it to recoup some of the $$. All versions of melodyne are the same download/software from celemony, it's the licence number you have that determines which version you see on screen.

So, does this mean it's possible to install some of the plugins exclusively to X2 into X3? For example Session Drummer 3? This is something I've always wondered, but never asked....

It's a roland product - not suprising really all things considered. It will still work if you already have it, it just isn't included, as is the case with V-vocal. VV integrates into X3 the same as melodyne so is also slicker and still worth having on board as it does do some things that melodyne can't.

bapu Integration with Gobbler (online backup)
Gobbler is great and has saved my sanity on more than one occasion. I just don't see the point of it being "integrated" in Sonar (at all). For it to work, you have to install Gobbler, a separate app. And once you've done that, you don't need the Sonar integration - everything is doable in the Gobbler app. In fact you need to open the Gobbler app for the juiciest functionality (accessing past versions of projects). You don't have to turn Gobbler "on" in Sonar for your projects to sync. So in all honesty I just removed the Gobbler module from the tool bar.
