If your concern is about stability you should always wait a service pack or two before you use the product in a professional environment, and besides you can run X1 and X2 side by side and find out for yourself. Upgrade now, then make your own decision on whether you should be using it in production now or later.
It kills me to say this - but I happen to completely agree with Alex here. :) I happen to be having a swell time with X2, and had one with X1d Expanded, and 8.5.3 prior to that. All 3 are still on my computer, in both 32 and 64-bit versions. I am a keyboard player, and primarily do MIDI tracks, with some guitar and vocals, and have not run into any showstoppers or crashes, thus far. And yet there are folks weeping and gnashing teeth in this forum at the same time. Part of that comes from their hardware, some from installation approaches, and some from legitimate bugs. We all just got notified that a maintenance release for X2 is in the works, and that will hopefully address a bunch of reported issues. But in general, +1 for Alex's position on this. I spend average of 10 hours per week on editing and 8 hours of performing and X1 is 98% solid. At first it was very shaky. I cannot remember how many updates it took to get X1 to a DAW you could count on but now it’s great. I loaded X2 and found a control code bug within the first five minutes. I suspect that deeper users of sonar know where to look for possible bug issues verses users who just hit the button and record some stuff. I do a fair amount of mixing for vocalists and get backing tracks in from great to bad and I have been able to get creative with X1 to make some professional masters for clients. X2 has some amazing tools along with Ozone5 so I made the change. Why does Cakewalk not have real Beta testers on their new releases? For new users this is very disheartening when a program crashes or produces less than expected results.

Have you applied the quickfix WB?
Cakewalk do have beta testers I'm pretty sure but you have to keep in mind SOnar is a very complex program and users run it on a variety of different computers with different soundcards etc.
The DAWs with the least eething problems are the ones with least features as far as I can tell. Samplitude apparently has bugs as does Digital Performer and lots of people are having problems with the new Cubase too. Ableton 8 was infamous for bugs.
X2 since the patch has been very solid for me- win8/64bit

I wanted to update my second day with X2. I am finding that X2 is more white page prone and is unfriendly with ASIO drivers. The available quick patch fixed the midi control code crashing so I was happy to see that. X1 is solid with ASIO drivers.

I am finding that X2 is more white page prone and is unfriendly with ASIO drivers. I'd wager most are already using ASIO drivers successfully (myself included) so it's not ASIO in general, but perhaps specific to your interface/driver combination. I'm using a Focusrite 18i6 and X2 is pretty solid.

I use 2 different Focusrite interfaces on 2 different machines, both in ASIO mode and both work flawlessly, so I think it's unfair to state that X2 is "ASIO unfriendly"

X2 fine here with ASIO on Cake interface. As stevec said, maybe it's interface/driver related.

I'm finding X2 quite stable if a little bit quirky (lanes...might be a learning curve). It may not be quite as stable as X1d Expanded but overall, for a first release, I think stability is fine.
I am, however, looking forward to X2a. By Christmas mebbe?

X2 has been more stable that X1. Maybe not as stable as 8.5 but IMO, X2 is the best offering Cakewalk has presented to date.
Well done Cakewalk. I'm hoping the accessibility options work for me.

FWIW, I had both X1 and X2 on my machines the day that both were available.
X1 always ran well for me.
As I've mentioned before, I tend to use Sonar in a very traditional tracking/editing/mixing vein (no loops/matrix/Vvocal and I generally use 3rd party EFX). I think that's part of why I didn't experience major issues.
Another thing I noticed is that X1 seemed to be more prone to issues when running on "older" hardware and especially when running under WinXP.
Never had the issue with Pro Channel turning on/off... or any other show-stoppers.
The most common issue I had was the FX Teleport error when exiting Sonar.
It's an outstanding bug... but it doesn't affect anything (project already saved and unaltered) so it's but a slight annoyance.
On my DAWs, X2 runs just as well as X1. There are some nice overall improvements/refinements.
If you look at other options, you'll see reports of issues with Cubase 7, Studio One Pro v2.5, Digital Performer 8, etc. The grass always seems greener...
