kennywtelejazz On the con's side , When I take a spin on the fretboard , it doesn't take too long for me to hit some Pretty Embarrassing Clams
See, I'm just the opposite. Every once in a while I'll hit the right note in just the right way. (Then wonder like crazy how the heck I did it! )

Kenny, I need to have a new bridge put into an old Hondo strat (don't ask, I just like it). Where in Portland should I take something like that so that I don't get screwed over,

Cool looking instrument. But it leaves me with a question, and that is : If you consider the gauges of the strings being used, shouldn't it be called an 8 string Bass/Guitar Combo rather than just a Guitar? I could see this type of instrument being awesome since it's electric for a band with two guitar players who just happen to like playing bass also, or Visa Versa that is, lots of possibilities.

Craig's answer gets my vote craigb Kenny should have more recent experience, but I've had good luck with the 12th Fret on Belmont. http://www.the12thfret.com/

Serious_Noize! , I get what you are saying Depending on who's playing it, it can be considered an 8 string Bass/Guitar Combo ... After hearing this fella , I may just have to go into hiding the voice on my left shoulder say's Nah I'm just gonna practice much harder and Kick His A$$ the voice on my right shoulder say's .. Thanks Bill , She is a nice little guitar for a starter 8 string . I get what you are saying about the 6 string guitar . It is certainly deep enough as it is for even the best of us . It can take a person a whole lifetime of practice and devotion just to even get a good squeak going on while the fingers are dancing away on a tight rope consisting of 6 Slinky nickle plated wires ... IMHO, Anything more than 6 strings is just like joining the circus . That's why I'm going there . My life is way too freaking boring I need some adventure , even if I crash and burn. Check out George Van Eps on the 7 string playing Yesterday solo Or George Van Eps on 7 string playing a Duet w Howard Alden Someday I Wish all the best, Kenny

That's like a perfect audio resume to send to prospective bands that says "What do you need, lead guitar, rhythm guitar or bass? I can do all of those for all of these styles!" Plus he made it sound musical and not like some guitar wanking exercise like too many do.

He is very good for sure I've already nabbed his audio track and I've been playing along with him at a much slower speed on a few sections .Say , did I mention a much slower speed ? craigb In the comments for the above video I saw the name "Tosin Abasi" and did a quick search for him. Hey Craig , Ooopppss , I already took a large bite out of that Apple "Tosin Abasi" is one of the first 8 string players I started checking out seriously .... Since I haven't been thrown out of The Garden of Musical Paradise yet ...So far so good ? ...I figure . all the best, Kenny

Hi Steve ! , Thanks for the Congrat Good luck too you on your 7 string playing . For a player of your caliber , it can be a whole new playground . +1 on having a lot of huh moments . Trying to play finger style on an 8 string right now is absolutely Crazy for me at times ... I've literally have had to stop everything while playing and crank my neck over just to find my G string for both my left and right hand Whew , at least that don't happen when I use a pick ... Then I may get Lucky and start playing something that I think is hip . When that happens , I'm like Wow where did that come from ? How did I do that ? I go to figure it out (what I just played ) , and then I forget it instantly on the spot .. Now I personally know what it feels like , to feel just like a Jason Bourne on the guitar all the best, Kenny

For anyone who is interested , here's a quick little down and dirty clip of the 8 string ... This was done as an experiment in time stretching audio ... it is in 3 sections ...also this is a dry work file ..no verbs no nothing ..played over a static drum loop The first section is what I stretched my playing to , the second section is the speed I actually played my 8 string guitar at , and the third section is just a repeat of section one .... FWIW , I'm trying to do more of a finger style solo guitar thing ...Charley Hunter and all the 8 string big boys have nothing to worry about ............ YET.............he he he Any way there are no overdubs here . section 2 is the type of speed I can play my 8 string w out crashing and burning ( too BAD ) http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=13405315 all the best , Kenny

Hi Mesh , I'm glad you like the little 8 string clip I posted that one because I have a thread upstairs where I'm trying to learn how to use SONAR's ability to stretch audio , warp tempo , and a few other feature & doodads that SONAR can do very well. All the things that I need to learn real bad.... Yes , the 8 string has opened up a whole world of new playing dimensions for me . I picked up a six string only once just the other day since I got the 8 string . I couldn't play $hit on it it felt like I had went back to playing on my Uke I had to put that bad boy back in the case and said Ef it ... there wasn't enough strings on it and I couldn't play anything I wanted to play anymore ...my feelings on that may change at some point ..in the mean time I'm sticking with the 8 . Nice video you posted ...I jumped around a little bit and plan on giving it a whole listen when I have the time . Before Stanley was famous , he used to come in all the time and play for us. The us being the store employees at Sam Ash Music in NYC .. .I was in the GTR Dept at S ..Ash before jumping ship over to Manny's Music ..Stanley would do that at least once or twice a week for a while . At the time he was playing out on the streets of NYC and he may of had a CD of sorts out at that point of his career ...promo ? or self produced ? We used to love when he came in to play for us in the store , all our heads would get blow by the way he played. We all knew he was gonna make it someday eph221 Anyone in PDX this is a really nice PRS 7-string. It's been on awhile so probably could get it for less. I mean, who doesn't want a PRS with birds?! I've seen that add ....it has been up for a while ...The guy wants too much ,I'm not interested ...thank you anyway ... craigb Looks nice. That reminds me, I really need to get my last custom sent to me so I can start playing again!
"Kenfuscious say " A new room mates extra guitar to play in the hand beats a high priced unfinished custom in the shop ... all the best, Kenny

Kenfuscious is wise! Still working on (slowly) getting to that point. He does have some rather nice guitars and he can't play them all at once, right? Ironically, my four-day move from hell left my hands aching, stiff and, occasionally, numb, THEN I began helping a friend remodel his house so he can sell it. Today's the last day and my hands are so tortured that I can barely move them and the fingers are so chewed up that the fingerprint reader on my phone won't match them! LOL.

Alright , another 8 string player . What length scale is your Ibanez ? My guitar has a 28 scale length and I love it ... Jarsve Ohhh ! The animals guys usually tune in drop E! Lowest note is E, rest is standard!
I'm sticking with the standard 8 string tuning for now ( Low F # ) it happens to work best for what I 'm currently playing . The drop E is nice I have tried it ..it certainly makes it easier to know where you are on the neck and it also makes it easy to hit some one finger low power chords .... One interesting 8 string tuning I tried out was Low G ....Low G was nice because it was an exact duplicate of the top 3 guitar strings craigb

Hello Craig , I'm glad too hear that you got some kind of enjoyment out of my video The second video seemed to not take off ..people may have lost interest ..or I may have talked too much ... When I do something like these vids , it is basically to share and pass on info for any one who may have an interest . FWIW , this is exactly how I approach my guitar playing ...the main difference is I take all the little playing ideas and riffs I'm working on / learning and run them through 4 or 5 different keys and chord types . ( major , minor ,7th , altered ) all the best, Kenny

I will be checking it again once I get my guitar back. There's a LOT I need to relearn and then even more to learn! Hopefully I'll have my finances back in order soon so my mind will let me take the time and not badger me to find work.
Time for all of you to head over to Beyond My DAW!
