I want to order both the Concert Strings II and the Diamond, and maybe the Brass as well. How does the sign up process work? I only see a form to fill in the email address. Can you purchase several or all of these KH group by products?

@bapu Even though I'm helping Kirk with the GB, I'm waiting on an answer on how he is implementing giving people the 10%. As I recall, he once stated that the customer furnishes a receipt number and they get a code for the 10% discount. But I'm awaiting an official answer.

@ceceilus2 Fill out the email and name form, you'll get an email sent back to you and you can then purchase whatever products you like.

well - I decided to order and start downloading Concert Brass before it reached 300 in the hope of avoiding download spikes. I started the downloads about 5:30 pm UAE time (GMT+4) thinking with my reasonably fast connection and a 13 hour window before I had to pack up my laptop and go to work this morning I could break the back of the downloads.

No such luck. Not only was the download speed slower that expected I also got a number of downloads fail part way through. Firefox was not able to resume the download.

I will try again tonight, but at this rate I will not get them all done before the link expires.

I will be purchasing in the next couple of days and want to have a head's up about this download.  It looks very larger.  Any info you give will help many.

I'm not involved with the KHS website, ecommerce or downloads, beyond making the recommendation to use Amazon for file serving, which is what KHS is using. Consequently, mot of what I'm learning about the sever speed this week is coming from my knowledge about servers, the pace of the GB and from people posting and PMing me, mainly at KVR. I haven't heard any horror stories, just that there is occasional slowness a poster will report, which doesn't surprise me, as we're getting a ton of people purchasing and downloading right now.

I'd strongly recommend that everyone use a file download manager that lets you resume downloads, just in case. That way, you can download and do something else without worry about any problems.

The link is open for 108 hours ( four and a half days). Lets's see what happens tonight. One thing for certain, I will use a wired rather than wireless this time. Firefox usually allows a resume but I will try a download manager. I need to get at least four of the 1.6GB files done tonight.

I would not discount local ISP issues from causing the problem. There is a fast connection in the building, but there is a lot of contention.

Anyone applied for a longer link? No way I could do a download in the next 4 days. I will probably do it in a month or two.

Things went better last night. But I am still way behind schedule with only 4.37GB down loaded. Hopefully over the weekend I will be able to leave my laptop connected for 36 hours straight.

Given the size of the downloads I think the 108 hours is not long enough. I am in Dubai and my connection is pretty fast but it wil be a challenge to get it all in the time as i cannot keep th ecomputer connected 24/7

Anyone ordering multiple products would do well to stagger the orders if possible so the 108 hours do not overlap.

I can't speak for the Firefox "download manager", as I've never use it. I can vouch for "Free Download Manager": http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/

I've used it for several years now to download I don't know how many gigabytes of crap...

Looking at posts on KVR I share the su****ion of one poster who thought the issues a couple of night ago were at Amazons servers, Last night it was all pretty smooth. I started using "down them all" which seems to have a good reputation and it gets integrated into Firefox. I will check out "Free Download manager"

Re:Kirk Hunter String/Brass Libraries GROUP BUY - UP TO 75% OFF!!! 2011/11/17 10:11:50 (permalink)

First I download the "main" file (I bought CS2, CB2, Diamond bundle).

I installed Free Download Manager.
I go to the Kirk Hunter link (which has like a gazillion bonus files to download).

I start clicking on the individual downloads. I get to "46: _Documentation.zip (FOR DIAMOND S3 - KONTAKT)" and get a page not found.

So I decide to let the 38 or so files down load (FDM shows all 38 selected).

After the first file is downloaded all the others stop (red box icon). I try the Download All button, momentarily the icons to the left of the file show the hour glass but then after a few seconds they all go back to stopped (red box icon).

But I can request one download at a time in FDM just not a series of them.

Must be missing some config setting. I'll continue to look.

Re:Kirk Hunter String/Brass Libraries GROUP BUY - 75% OFF DISCOUNT REACHED!!! 2011/11/17 13:03:25 (permalink)
I purchased CS2 last night and downloaded the whole package. I had no issues with download speed. I did not use a download manager. Just used Chrome and clicked on files as necessary. I purposely never had more than one transfer or unzip going at once because I want to maximize the likelihood that all files are created contiguously for performance reasons.

One thing you may see after some period of time is your download speed slowing down because your ISP is throttling your bandwidth. A lot of ISPs will do this because they don' t want you to overwhelm the rest of the users on your segment of cable/fiber.

That's an excellent point.

There has been a wide variety of experiences, even for people who are downloading at the same time, so while I do suspect that Amazons servers have been slow at times, people's own ISPs are another factor. These are pretty huge files.

You have until December 2, 2011 to make all of your purchases. So, someone can register now and purchase as late as December 2.

Pulled down the Pop/Rock Strings.
The demos and some of the reviews sounded very good and the price really made it hard to not try it .

Well, I took the plunge into the deep waters of Hunter's strings group buy.  Just registered on the initial signup page and am now waiting for the email with the purchase link.

I figured I would buy two or more probably three of these products, but do so one at a time, allowing a successful download of each one before buying the next.  I don't want to drown in the mad rush at the end to get everything downloaded in the alloted time that some are reporting here (thanks for the reports on download times!).

One thing you may see after some period of time is your download speed slowing down because your ISP is throttling your bandwidth. A lot of ISPs will do this because they don' t want you to overwhelm the rest of the users on your segment of cable/fiber.
I suspect this is exactly what was happening last night. I have never had problems downloading other libraries with files of this size but they are nowhere near the total size of Concert Brass. Last night I down loaded one file reasonably quickly, after that it was a total disaster at times download rated were being quoted in b/s, not kb/s ! and then the downloads would fail. In the end the sum total of my night was 1 file of 900 mb.

I am trying on another connection now and have a file downloading very fast. Unfortunatly I can only use this for a limited amount of time.

I think I am going to asking for an extension to the download time. If I continue to have issues here I will see if they can postpone issueing that until I am back in the UK in December.
