Lenses are a MASSIVE step backwards for me... I've just updated my Sonar artist only to find the screensets feature completely gone. Unbelievable. I had my Sonar set up to have full screen track view on screenset 1, which was accessible by hitting "1" on the numerical keypad, full screen mixer view on screenset 2 - keypad "2" and so on... now all of this is gone. Screenset module is gone too, so now to change views I have to make two mouse clicks instead of one and as I've already mentioned there is no key binding option. I'm done. I'm reverting to the previous version and am not planning on updating ever again. No more subscription money from me, sorry. I am spending my time writing this all instead of making music, because Cakewalk have decided to make yet another pointless change in the UI and completely killed my workflow...

Are you sure? I would check the lens thats loaded, it may be the reason. Try the advanced lens. See if your screensets return.

They're not gone. But on a wider topic, there's no doubt UI changes are disruptive. However, I regard spending the time learning them as an investment. If I spend 1 hour learning it but save 20 hours over the course of year because of what I learned, it's worth it. I don't have Artist but I assume you can select "None" as a Lens.

How two mouse clicks and a dropdown menu are supposed to save my time over 1 keystroke/mouse click?

I think you need to look harder. In no other version did they take screensets away. I don't have Artist. I have Platinum. So I can't check directly. In the help file there is no reference to Artist not having screensets. But they do mention its not in Home Studio.

One more thing about lenses. You may not be able to modify the factory lenses. This may be disconcerting to some. However use the none lens or make you own. They shouldn't interfere with you normal setup unless you invoke one.

Yes, they are there. All but one of my old screensets are gone though. No biggie, I can make them again. I still have a few questions: - What was wrong with the old module? Why the new concept hasn't been incorporated into evolving the screensets feature? - What is the point of having Module strip/bar/whatever you call it, if we are faced with a new menu in the most random part of the screen? Does it not defeat the purpose of modules altoghether? - Where are key bindings? WHERE??? This is a massive failure in my opinion.

OK you have found them. One big reason to have the lenses is so a user can simplify the work space to fit the task. I don't quite understand your first question. Nor do I understand the second one. You find Keybindings in Preferences under Keyboard Shortcuts. Hit P to open preferences and have advanced clicked.

John I don't quite understand your first question. Nor do I understand the second one.
I'll try to rephrase: The old screenset module was neat, tidy and allowed to access different screensets just by clicking on one of the numbers (1-10) on it. Why was it gotten rid of? Why wasn't it renamed to "lenses" and left as it was? Switching between screensets was easy, and the placement of the module was intuitive. That's what the module dock is for. When I look for new features I firstly look at the module dock. What we have right now is a dropdown menu somewhere on the screen. It's a mess and it takes two clicks to switch between screensets/lenses. Hardly an improvement. John You find Keybindings in Preferences under Keyboard Shortcuts. Hit P to open preferences and have advanced clicked.
Come on, John. As I mentioned in my first post in this thread, I want to be able to switch between screensets by hitting a key on my keypad. I cannot see an option to bind screensets/lenses...

I missing something with the usefulness.... So you eliminate some items, but you're just left with a blank space that isn't useable. Therefore I might as well leave all the standard stuff in....even if used rarely. If you could resize stuff, then that might be the ticket. or can you now?

As much as it sounds like a good idea, it's definitely difficult to use for me. Here is one example. I have a project loaded with all the instruments and like layout. I save it as custom Lens. Save the project and later add another instrument to the and adjust the Console add a few tabs to the multi-dock. Next time I load the project the custom lens "wins" over the project settings and all post-lens-save changes are lost. This means I'd need to additionally save a custom lens for each project to have it work. I'm not sure what they were thinking or attempting to accomplish. It's definitely confusing to use "as is". Right now I cannot figure out to save a project without the custom lens. It comes back after save, even when choosing "none" before save. I regret trying it. Making a mess of things and I cannot get it out of my project. EDIT: if Lenses were "global macros" that did not change project (tabs, console channel strips, etc) and only used to arrange the work space into pre-defined screen sets that might be slightly more convenient that the earlier work space management. Having the lens be saved within the project and additional take precedence is just wrong imo.

Worth noting again that the Manage Lenses dialog enables choice as to what aspects are "handled" by the Lense. For me, I un-checked the key bindings box, as I want my custom bindings to persist at all times. I believe one could also uncheck the "custom" module in the CB so that it persists in all Lenses. Craig ( or anyone) correct me if I'm wrong there. I think that's the part that might take some time...realizing that all the things you've customized aren't just tossed out the window ( tho it feels like that the first time you test drive it). They're still in tact, just handled differently. Or you could just choose None....and not use the feature at all :)

I really like Lens but I would love one change. If your Lens hides a Folder, tracks added to that folder should inherit the folder view. My example, I have a simple "scratch" recorder folder for songwriting. then I have a "audio" folder for tracks which will be in the end production. (I can set the Lens and it works great) I can have a separate view for each folder, but if I add a track in the "audio" folder, it will be visible in the "scratch" folder view. This means you have to correct all lenses with each new track. For 2 Lenses it may not be a big deal, but you can set this up for multiple Lenses i.e a audio, midi, mix, FX, etc.

No need to get rid of things if you want them. Yes you can resize things as you have before. Further I think some think you must use lenses. You don't, they are completely optional.

I've wanted to have Control Bar presets ever since it was introduced, so my favorite part of Lenses (at least so far) is to have the Control Bar show only what I need; then I can use the expanded version of each module instead of having to collapse them or make them small. In fact if Lenses only let you call up different Control Bar configurations, I'd be glad it existed.

Put the lens on none. Your screenset module will show up. From there you can make a lens that has the screenset module with it. None will be your normal setup.

Posting about screensets in a thread about lenses or the general 2016.11 thread may not be the most efficient way to ask Artist users a question.
