It just does not feel incredible deal or special deal anymore.

I didn't realize that feeling good was part of the deal.

I had a feeling that in February 2017 next year when my year subscription is due that ,by that time my only option would be a lifetime option , maybe I am wrong but it looks like it's heading that way.

Hi  Bruce (tenfoot ) ,

Thank you for the kind words you said I appreciated reading them ....

Yes, when I saw the new offer in the e mail Cakewalk sent out ,  it pretty much made my day ...
Today when I went  to DMV to re-register my two vehicles and renew my drivers license I was having an absolute blast
A couple of the females that worked there were even flirting with me  ....that Cakewalk e mail I got today sure put me a real good mood and it seems to have done wonders for my love life ...
Please Cakewalk send me more e mails . You have done for me what I could not of done for myself in that one area of my life ....

The main reason why I brought this whole thing up is because I wasn't sure if I had to smog my car this year ...
The county where I live in WA has a thing where if for any reason your vehicle does not pass the State emissions you then have go to a DMV approved Auto Shop and pay the shop to prove to DMV that you tried to fix your car ...
That will get you a wavier good for 2 years .....

This whole thing reminds me exactly of how the Music Biznez can operate depending on where you are in the food chain ....

Essentially what I will end up doing is driving my car over to a  DMV approved shop  , hand the fella behind the counter a couple of papers that say's my car failed the smog check .
If he's in a good mood that day he may decide to offer me a free cup of coffee .
He may even pop the hood of my car ....then we negotiate a price between $150 to $200  ....
I will then hand the guy almost $200 dollars for the honor of him filling out a receipt that I can bring over to DMV to prove that I tried to fix my car

If I even need air in my tires it's gonna cost me extra  I'm not kidding man ...they wont fix nothing .....
That is unless we hit the mid $300 + range ...( this is my 3 rd rodeo w this whole  song and dance )

SO Yeah , I think Cakewalk is offering me a great deal ..Lifetime updates for $199 ....

I'm very happy with SONAR ..I have total confidence that Cakewalk is gonna give me more than what I'm paying for ....

They always have

If I didn't have to jump through this little extra hoop w the car I would have upgraded my SONAR to lifetime today .....

thanks folks for listening  ,

Kenny

Hahaha - If it is anything like the wait in the DMV in Australia, you could be dating, married and divorced before you leave the office Kenny :)

I'm guessing there is a lot of sarcasm going on.

BTW would Cakewalk tells us how many lifetime licenses were sold?

Less than anticipated would be a guess. To answer the question more directly, no, Cakewalk would not share such a thing.

I really love my Sonar DAW but I have to say that "Many" people I know in the music industry are angry that things like this happen and I have to say that I'm a little taken back by this! I felt I was coming to the last moment where I "had to make a decision?" Many feel "what next?" again when the end date comes will it be extended?? then someone from Cakewalk will "Justify" the reasoning to Sonar Members??? I understand money situations can be tough, I have a mortgage & bills like most and Yes that still doesn't stop me from spending thousands on music instruments. Today most people "Don't Trust" businesses, the manipulation for more money One way or another and yet "I bought the Lifetime Upgrade?". After like most Sonar Members that have spent "Thousands" since the early years are now worried "What's Next???" these extensions only fuel the fear that people will be manipulated out of MORE MONEY for "Base-Level" or Core upgrades that are no more than "Theme's & Fixes?" I want to be "optimistic" and believe that Sonar hasn't changed like the "Gaming Industry" (whole other subject) which I have family working as designers/developers/programmers tell me about EA, Activision, Komami and milking more and more money.

As I said earlier "I do love Sonar" I've had such a great experience with it, very very little to no Lockups & Freezes, and I was a longtime ProTools HD user and before that Ampex/Studer 2" 30ips tape. I can go anywhere with any DAW, but I'll support Sonar because I believe it's That-Good!

Right this: "i had to make a decision" situation make's me angry. "Hurry! This is your last opportunity to lock in this incredible deal." So, however, i could have spend those 200 euros with my children at summer time, but no i was so selfish and i spend my limited money to incredible Update deal. Why? Because I really thought that I lose this great chance after August 31. And now i realize there was not hurry at all for me. I just thought so. Maybe I'll buy something nice for my children in December and I am less selfish.

Welcome to the "real" world friends.
Software marketing is a tough business.
It used to be no one paid retail for automobiles or musical instruments.
Unless of course you were financing same.
Music software; buyer beware!
Who pays "retail" for say Waves or UAD plugins; only fools.

im not sure if you read the whole thread here, but the deal is NOT the same.
it is no longer 99.00 dollars for the upgrade. it is now 199.00. so those who took advantage of the deal (that expired on Aug 31) got sonar for a reduced price compared to users who purchase it now.

im not sticking up for sonar here, I have no reason too.
im just using every day logic. many company's out there extend their promotions. Many company's do this.
not just Sonar. however, in this case, if you bought sonar by Aug 31st, you got it for a reduced price compared to users who buy it now thru Dec 31st.

so its not the same deal. but would it be so bad if it was ? what about those who couldn't afford it and were hoping for a few more weeks to get the money ? I don't have a problem with it. if anything I would be happy other users would have that extra time.
 aren't you ?

chuckebaby, apparently you didn't read My statement!!! I have Sonar Platinum and I had to pay 199.99 not 99.00 and that was before the Deadline! I have No problem with the Lifetime Upgrade weather now or later!!! I sympathize people with money situations as I have people to take care of! but You seem to want to "Read-in-between" the lines and suggest that I do????

I make a statement that many industries because of economy, globalization and or Monetization do what they do,
and I get this? "Everyday Logic???"

I get this even though I stated that I support Sonar!

Thanks.

I had also spent $$ that I really didn't have, but so be it, that was no one's decision but my own.  No one forced me at gun point to spend money on a software purchase that I really wanted anyway...   So I feel good about the fact that others (such as Kenny) will still have the opportunity to join the lifetime club since their summer finances simply did not allow it.

Oh.... I also feel good that had I waited, my $99 purchase would have been $199 today.

and I truly feel bad for those who didn't get to update in time (before the deadline) because maybe they didn't have the money..I know I've been there. The paranoia is getting out of control (I guess I need to include myself in that )

Hey Mantrasky,

We're most certainly not going to be "manipulating anyone out of their money". We have had a strong track record of delivering excellent value for what you pay for and we don't plan to stop! Wouldn't that be the dumbest thing we could do considering that we introduced lifetime updates and now do not have definite yearly upgrade revenue?

Our goal is to get more new users to understand this value of getting lifetime updates as well as continue to innovate and add even more powerful features and add ons to the platform. Many of these innovations will be free to lifetime users but some will be sold as add ons. For example we have some great new (free) features coming up in the next update that would normally be only in a new product.

We value the support from loyal users like you and everyone has a choice. We're definitely not forcing anything down anyone's throat. We've been doing annual membership since Jan 2005 and its almost two years now. I would hope that our track record of delivering value speaks for itself. We've released much more than we've ever done in the history of the product.

Chucke I do absolutely know what you mean, even my own son said "Don't upgrade" it's a Scam!!! He's coming from the Gaming Industry, different I know but they spend hundreds of millions on the development and we spend $59.99 USD. On a game, but the developers are thinking about DLC, more and more money then if you find out if you bought the whole package it would have cost like $90.00 Now the same is $150.00 and it doesn't include something else? So Gamers are stuck with Sub Par Standards, crashes so on, which is why "Steam" offers a return policy "under 2hr game play". I understand software programming, I'm an engineer also.

And have a great weekend as well!

Mike.

I was an early adopter of lifetime updates. My reason for getting is quite simple I have been buying Sonar Platinum and before that Producer updates each year. So this in the short and long term will save me money. At the same time I was concerned by some posters that just didn't have the cash to swing it within the deadline. Now that issue is gone for the short term. Its a relief for me to know all that want the lifetime deal will be able to get it.

I think CW extended it for the above reasons. I think they did the right thing. Even though the more cynical will no doubt see a conspiracy in it. I also think CW took that into account and did it anyway. That to me is real class.

I suppose those that see a glass half full vs half empty will understand.

Less than anticipated would be a guess. To answer the question more directly, no, Cakewalk would not share such a thing.

Unless you work for them your answer is speculation.

Hi Noel, thanks for the response! I didn't want to sound skeptical as many believe the "Subscription Model" is purely for continue money making but I know software development is expensive, some in the multi-million range. Many think "it's to good to be true" Lifetime Upgrades for a one time payment! People just want "Absolute transparency & clarity" Most companies have a definitive Cut-off and that's it! Sonar is an awesome program (9-10yrs now) I'll continue to use it and hope Cakewalk grows in the years to come, "keep up with the incredible work".

Thank you!

Mike.

Noel Borthwick [Cakewalk]
We value the support from loyal users like you and everyone has a choice. We're definitely not forcing anything down anyone's throat.

When Cakewalk declares (as you did) that the lifetime updates will ONLY be available till aug 31, it is sort of forcing things.  Now or never, that was the deal (which you changed very recently after several of us had bought in).

I would never have purchased the upgrade now (for full price), only 6 months after I upgraded to Platinum, if I'd known I could wait till December.  I've now in effect loaned you my money for 6 months, hence the money grab accusation.

I will appreciate the refund of my loan.

I'm almost positive when the deal first came out, it was stated that it would go to $199 after Aug 31.  I'm not going to go back and be legalistic and try to prove it, but that's what I had in my head all along.

so...nothing new, move along...

I will appreciate the refund of my loan.

Just FYI, as a recovering ediholic (I spent too many years in publishing), a loan is "an amount of money that is given to someone for a period of time with a promise that it will be paid back." There was never any promise that it would be paid back, so the $199 was a purchase - "the action of buying something [a product or service]." If you don't want to purchase Lifetime Updates, perhaps Cakewalk can give you a refund, with the option to buy yearly memberships instead. If you don't decide to renew after one year, you won't have lost anything.

I understand it would be very helpful to know the future and budget accordingly, however by buying when you did, you locked in Lifetime Updates no matter what happened in the future. Obviously those who paid $99 were smart to lock in that price when they did. I think what you did was prudent, even though you regret doing it now.

Ya they are grabbing some money, but in exchange they are giving you unlimited updates for LIFE !! That's one heck of a bargain. Since I bought in, I've already received a bunch of updates...and they are going to keep on coming for the foreseeable future.

The deal which ran until August 31, was a special pro-rated discounted price, and that deal expired - it had pricing that ran as low as $99 for some folks.  That deal is gone.

They decided to allow folks to continue to pick up Lifetime Updates for Platinum, from September 1st through December 31st, at a fixed price of $199.  The $199 is STILL a discounted price for Lifetime Updates, but the $99 or $149 prices are no longer available.

For essentially the cost of one year's maintenance, through the end of the year folks can lock in to receive all future updates for Sonar Platinum.

It's not a loan, a scam, nobody got ripped off or snookered, or anything else.  Folks were offered a deal with the potential for picking up the updates for forever as cheaply as $99 - and that multi-tiered discounted pricing offer has expired.  The lifetime updates are with a now one price for all cost of $199 for the same perpetual updates offer that runs through the end of this year.  That's it.  Even the $199 cost is a really good deal.

The lifetimes updates is also completely optional.

By the way, since Sonar Platinum came out, in addition to added functionality, they have published over ONE THOUSAND bug fixes, SO FAR, and they have and will continue to provide updates monthly.
