Not intending to be a nattering nabob of negativity here but what are the "enhancements?" I just saw fixes. Maybe I missed them.

I guess everyone was griping about a bug fix list that the enhancements got pushed to the side. They won the WS last night. Maybe it's kinda rough in there this morning. IDK. But if I'm gonna have an either or, give me the list of enhancements!

Is that really the focus? There's 93 95 items listed here, enhancing the product overall. This update is for improving the product based on all of the interaction we've had with everyone over the past few weeks. If we're going to take things too literal, I can maybe update the article to use a different word, like "betterments"? (though I'm sure that's grammatically incorrect )

Each MIDI note requires two pieces of data in order to successfully "Play" a note. A NOTE ON and a NOTE OFF message. Since you are playing this from the middle of the event the NOTE ON message is never passed and you are left with silence.

Another positive thread lowered. One of the Bakers did comment that things like improvement to video would be put off til the next update, as they were concentrating of bug fixes. That's fine by me. As far as I am concerned, making a program run more smoothly is a major enhancement, Dave, don't you think?

+1 It's the second patch released what... a month after X3 originally came out? IMHO, in that limited timeframe it should be about fixes, particularly those reported here (which seems to be the case). Oh, and better mints if possible.

Wouldn't having a MIDI note trigger halfway through kind of screw up the feel of of things? Like you'd get the initial attack at the wrong point in the mix? I'd just freeze the synth if it's that huge a deal and I needed to start playback from that exact point. Perhaps I'm missing something here and I don't mean to sound dismissive of another person's problems but it doesn't seem like something to totally scrap a DAW over. Also, personally I'd think bug fixes would trump enhancements (there do seem to be plenty of those in X3 already after looking at all the vids, various articles and what has been said here on the forum). I just took a look at that list and it seems the boys have indeed been hard at work on stuff that has been specifically brought up here on the forum. I am gaining some needed optimism on the direction Cake is taking with this release. Perhaps it was indeed Roland holding them back. Has the deal with Gibson been finalized? If this is what we can expect from that acquisition then all I gotta say is GO CAKE GO! This is the kind of stuff that made me take a chance with Sonar in the first place and it is nice to see a renewed commitment to quality and maintenance.

Convinced you at last eh Beep!! I think you're absolutely spot on. Most lengthy Midi notes have some sort of evolving timbre which would not evolve properly by starting halfway through the note. Temporarily freezing the synth is the perfect workaround and one I use in nearly every project.

I am however curious how those other DAWs would achieve that. Does it use some kind of pre process where it triggers the MIDI then starts playback midway through or does it just trigger the note when you hit playback? If it is the former that seems like it would either cause a delay and/or eat up extra processing power. Seriously... curious about that. As far as enhancements, and maybe this is already possible but I don't think so, I was thinking earlier as I looked at one of my projects that a per clip send option would be cool. Like say you have a bunch of clips on a track and you'd like one of those clips to use the processing on a specific buss (say a delay or reberb buss or you have your guitar sim(s) set up on busses instead of on the track). Being able to open something like the Clip FX bin on the clip and add a send to that bus could be cool and save some effort or having to add extra tracks. I know that can probably be done with automation or perhaps FX Chains (not sure if there is a send feature with chains) but being able to just right click on the clip and toss a send on it would be neat. But that could wait for X4... or never... whatevs. Just pontificating.

X3 has always looked good to me since they first started releasing info on it. That wasn't really the problem... but we won't reopen that can of worms here in a positive thread. I'm glad everyone is enjoying it.

This is a result of the design of the original midi spec, not an issue with sonar. Why don't you just click the timeline just before the note and then hit play.
