Just me, but that said I didn't have the Video or tts dll. I had Overloud which nobody else seems to have had.
Mcafee seems to be associated with the   CWVideoEngine.dll   and   TTSLame.dll
We need more people reporting

So far so good. Been over a day now with no more errors. I took the .dll files that kept getting posted as bad image errors and put them in the excluded Mcafee scan folder. Reloaded the latest version of Sonar artist and it seems to have worked.

Windows Version: 10 Home 1703, build 15063.674
SONAR version: 2.0.5.81
DLL Affected: multivoicechorusflanger.dll (Apparently related to the Classic Creative FX Suite)
Error Message: Unable to register the DLL/OCX: RegSvr32 failed with exit code 0x3
When did the message show: Chose to "Install all" after clicking on SONAR Artist in CC. A couple minutes later the error came up.
Antivirus: Windows Defender

For me, this issue seemed to be related to the Classic Creative FX Suite.  I did nothing to resolve it right away, instead I went ahead and installed everything else (Rapture, CA-2A Leveling Amp, etc.).  Then I re-ran the FX Suite installation, and it went through no problem.  Whether that info is helpful or not, there it is. :)

Windows Version: 10 Home 1709
Software Issue: Corsair Utility Engine
DLL Affected: Various in the CUE folder depending on me re-installing, 0 byte dll's
Error Message: Bad image
When did the message show: On windows startup, but only occurred after the Windows 1709 update
Antivirus: McAfee

only reason I posted was because its not just Sonar thats having this problem over the last few weeks. Members of Corsair are reporting it to. So its either Windows update or Mcafee

Mine appears to have been McAfee and it even started on the date of the McAfee update. Isolated the .dll’s in question reinstalled the latest SONAR and restricted the .dlls from real time scanning and still good to go,

DSDConvert.dll truncated to size 0 2017/11/04 01:27:50 (permalink)
Hello,

Lately when I try to use Sonar on my Windows 10 laptop, I sometimes get an error message indicating that DSDConvert.dll (and sometimes a couple of other DLLs) are corrupt. When I examine these DLLs in file explorer I find that they have a size of zero bytes. At that point the only recourse is to reinstall Sonar.

This happens sporadically; sometimes I will get several days without seeing the problem, and sometimes it happens every other time I start Sonar. The obvious question is "What's changed in the environment," but the only answer I have is "Nothing to the best of my knowledge" (though we live in an era of automatically-updating software so who knows what has happened behind the scenes).

I use a Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 sound module connected via USB, in case that's relevant. Any ideas as to what's happening would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Yes, that's very helpful! I had begun to suspect McAfee AV when Process Monitor showed it accessing the affected DLLs as I started Sonar. I could never catch it in the act of truncating the files, though. I've removed McAfee and turned on Windows Defender. So far so good.

Thanks very much for your help!

Just adding two more cents to the conversation...

At first I didn't think McAfee could be the problem in my case, because I don't run McAfee.  BUT... on thinking about it, this happened on a new laptop where McAfee was the default AV, which I uninstalled after setting up the computer.  So it's very likely that something was left behind that affected SONAR when I installed it.  So  the McAfee connection seems strong.

Nevertheless, my previous post on how it got fixed is interesting as well.

I don't have McAfee but encountered this problem with Sony Vegas and Windows 10.

Also at the moment. I can't install any updates. I get the "Your device is at risk because it’s out of date and missing important security and quality updates. Let’s get you back on track so Windows can run more securely. Select this button to get going." Clicking the button just brings up the same warning.

Sounds like maybe it's not McAfee directly, but perhaps some overzealous Windows security feature that's getting in its way.

Either way, exempting the \program files\cakewalk directory tree is the best preventative - at least, until the bug bites some other application on your computer.

I am too experiencing the same issues on my daw and my new laptop with a very recent install-both using macaffe- security suite.
I just excluded the dll's from being scanned and have also made a sonar backup folder.
I will post anything I find

@ whoever turned me on to this thread, thank you. while reading through the posts i see a couple common things. my biggest problem is, i don't know how a computer works so when you guys start talking about DLL's and things like that i'm lost. however, one thing i noticed is there could be a problem with Mcafee. i remember when i first started using a DAW (cakewalk guitar pro running millennium) i had to manually (ctl-alt-del) shut down background programs and never, ever run AV because GTP would crash. however, by habit, i always disable AV while running Sonar.
that being said, i still have no idea how to fix this and it's becoming quite annoying.

Thanks to all who have taken the time to post, but very few have posted the information I was seeking to help narrow down the heart of the issue. OK, it's mostly people with McAfee. But then there's me who doesn't have McAfee and still had the problem.

So please everyone all we need is a simple list.

Version of Windows - ( 1703 1709 etc)  IMPORTANT
Version of Sonar  probably doesn't matter.

What antivirus software are you using?

This could be affecting other A/V software, not just McAfee.

Hey just to be safe... You definitely want to be sure your dlls didn't get modified by some malware.
Mind sending the files that were getting truncated up to VirusTotal?  They should come back clean.
If not, then it's worth continued investigation.

We should post the checksums of the files.  I would use SHA1 rather than MD5 (the type of checksum hash used)
However, you can compute it and save off the results for later compare.  If we didn't change the file, then the checksum should be the same.

Keith, you guys should be following this issue, It does seem at this point it is McAffe 90% of the cases.

It might be pertinent to make a statement to Sonar users if this can be verified officially.

Re: Looking for users who had the 0 byte DLL issue 2017/11/14 00:43:23 (permalink)
Yeah, I started having this problem this weekend.  My system's nothing special...I'm on W10 1709.  I didn't have this problem before I was updated to 1709, (which was a couple weeks back).  In addition to DSDConvert.dll being affected, CWVideoEngine.dll was affected once as well.

An alternate method to recover would be to roll back a version, then update again.  This will help out folks who hadn't backed up the .dll(s) that got affected.  This recovery took me about 4 minutes to complete.

This happened to me this morning.  In Sonar - got out, went to get back in and got the CWVideoEngine.dll issue. Strange, since it was apparently modified while I was using Sonar! No other Sonar files were modified, last files modified on 10/25.
Yes, McAfee on board.
