  • [Solved] Reducing Tempo of midi sequence that includes Tempo variations ...possible ?

I have a midi sequence which includes many tempo fluctuations ie " ritardo" etc
I need to reduce the whole sequence by 50%
Is there anyway (perhaps in the new Sonars) to do this efficiently ?

I posted this query a few years ago but wonder if there's been any advancements ?

I need to add/include audio within the sequence , once the sequence is complete, which disables the Tempo 1 2 3 option

I don't know of any way to do this. Maybe someone else does...

Sorry No can do.

I spend lots of time using the tempo view and have always wanted to be able to adjust the tempo as I could adjust automation ie nodes and various curve functions.

Thanks...

I'm almost considering recording the 50% reduced tracks ...one by one to lap top ...

I'm wondering if I can record the 50% reduced midi track onto my laptop/sequencer then export it back into the main desktop sequence ..
But on initial trials the laptop won't except any midi out from the desk top.
It's a complex solution anyway and I cannot face yet another driver or whatever problem solving marathon.

That shouldn't be a problem, but you need to make sure you the clock settings are correct so that the laptop and desktop are synched. In preferences, for project, look under MIDI and Clock for starters. I've done what you want to do successfully many times. All you may need to do is in the Control Bar sync module, enable Transmit MIDI Clock and set the laptop to receive MIDI clock.

Here are some resources that might work

about the 4th response down

It can be done. Here's the drill I've posted a number of times. You can ignore the first step if the project is all-MIDI:
1. Enable Auto-stretch (a.k.a. Clip Follows Project in Auto-stretch mode) on all audio clips.
2. Select a MIDI or audio clip that runs the length of the project.
3. Go to Process > Fit to Time.
4. Convert the current Thru time to total frames (usually 30 frames/sec).
5. Divide that by the desired tempo change factor (e.g. 1.10 to get a 10% increase, 0.90 for a 10% decease).
6. Round and convert that new value to minutes:seconds:frames.
7. Enter that as the new Thru, and select Modify by Changing: Tempo Map.
8. Click OK.

Mentions a cal script to scale tempo at:
http://www.bikexprt.com/calfiles/download.htm
scltempo.zip Cakewalk has no Scale Tempo command, so this CAL program turns the Fit to Time command upside down to scale tempos. This program also demonstrates use of the VERSION constant to enable version insensitivity, and a workaround for a bug in the EditFitToTime command under CAL versions 4.0 and higher. This program uses the undocumented EditFitToTime40 command under versions 5.0 and higher.

Thank you for these two options...I will certainly give them both a try...I'll post results in a short while.

Just a dumb idea but what happens when one changes the time signature?
Say from 4/4 to 8/4 or 2/4???

Changing time signature won't affect absolute playback timing because a "beat" is always a quarter note (i.e. 960 ticks) in SONAR, and changing the number of beats in a bar just changes where the bar lines fall.

That's what I thought. Seems it should work math wise.

Sorry I don't have access to my daw so cannot test, but can you not grab the tempo line in tempo view and drag the whole thing up or down? Seems this should be possible as well.
Seems wanting to change the tempo of a song should have option to include the changes within the time line. Like an option to globally apply a certain amount in the tempo GUI.
This has got have been a feature request already?
