If I may pose a burning question(possibly only relevant to me), could someone give me the whole skinny on the term bounce? I keep thinking basketball!

PS - as long as I am imposing, at what point in the  whole recording process do you convert the mono input tracks to stereo?

Bouncing tracks
The Track view Tracks > Bounce to Track(s) command lets you combine one or more audio tracks into a submix.
A submix can be a mono track, a stereo track or several mono tracks that contain the mixture of the original tracks,
preserving the volume, pan, and effects for each track. If you’re bouncing tracks that are routed to a surround bus
(SONAR Platinum only), you can bounce them to as many mono tracks as you have surround channels, by
choosing the Split Mono option in the Channel Format field of the Bounce to Tracks dialog box, and also
choosing a surround bus in the Source Category field. After their creation, the submix tracks are just like any
other tracks—you can edit them, add effects, copy them to another project, etc. The original, unmixed audio tracks
are not deleted, so you can archive them and recover them later, or continue using them as before.
The Track view Tracks > Bounce to Track(s) command operates completely offline, meaning you can mix down
tracks that may be too complex for your machine to actually play in real time.
Here are some reasons to use Bounce to Track(s):
Your mix is so complex that real-time playback is impossible. Bounce to Track(s) produces the correct mix,
and store the result in a new track or tracks.
You require more CPU time for your real-time effects. With Bounce to Track(s) , you can premix some of your
tracks with real-time effects applied, saving CPU time during playback.
If you mix down to tracks that already have data, the new events are placed in the track, but do not overwrite
existing material.
To mix down (bounce) audio tracks
1. Set all volume, pan, effects, and automation settings just as you want them.
2. Select the tracks or clips you want to mix down.
3. If you are using effects on the tracks and want to mix the effects down at this time, select the whole length of
the longest track or clip plus an extra measure for the reverb or effects “tail.”
4. Click the Track view Tracks menu and choose Bounce to Track(s) to open the Bounce to Track(s) dialog
box.

Silly question, but I have to ask... since I am not in a position to download the update yet, and see it firsthand at the moment. The Question: After watching the video about the Aux tracks, I am assuming that you can not only bus the track, but run the channel strip ( Quad Curve EQ, etc. ) as you would any track; yes?

Yes an aux track has exactly the same features as any other track.

Not huge for me. Just upgraded to Win 10, Sonar worked beautifully with Ipswich. Update to Jamaica and experienced this weird timing issue on soft synths such as Zeta and Hyrbrid 3 and Xpand!2. In testing, and using the real time upscaling thing, made it even worse. So tried 'reset' and hung on one of my wave plug-ins. Have posted this elsewhere but why is this happening? I've have to roll back to Ipswich, where everything is working nicely but I want these updates which is all part of the deal. Sucks big-time!

Quick Question, and perhaps I didn't RTM, but how does the Echo function on an Aux work if it requires the source track Echo button to be enabled? I seem to only get both to Echo or neither. I'm wanting to use the Aux Echo only for playback without Echo-ing the source track. Thanks!

Well done Cakewalk! I love to see these type improvements brought to Sonar! Hopefully the MIDI routing will be improved as well in the future. This is my favorite Sonar Platinum update so far, and helps dramatically with making me VERY happy with my Sonar upgrade purchase. Routing and CPU efficiency are of the fundamentals, and the more one has of both the better IMV.

Is your first CPU core peaking?

I start a new blank project ("Normal" template), insert an instance of Virus Control (VC), enable the LIVE button as I have done for years up to this point, play a few notes and notice a lag...like a SUPER-MEGA lag of about 6-7 seconds!

I'm having a similar problem with Loom and Vacuum Pro, both 64 bit VST 2- extreme latency several seconds, but other plugins don't seem to be affected AFAIK eg Z3ta 2 , Rapture Pro and VirtualCZ don't have extreme latency issues.

SONAR doesn't know how to do that. Is it the system that's 32-bit, or SONAR? You can install either 32- or 64-bit versions of SONAR in a 64-bit operating system.

The first 3 books in "The Musician's Guide to Home Recording" series are available from Hal Leonard and http://www.reverb.com. Listen to my music on http://www.YouTube.com/thecraiganderton, and visit http://www.craiganderton.com. Thanks!

Add speaking of adding new functions to your repertoire..."Five Reasons Why Patch Points Rock" is now posted in the Cakewalk Blog. You'll find five practical examples on how to use patch points: Signal Splitter, Signal Merger, "Reel" Vintage Flanging, "Whole Lotta Love" Vocal Echo, and Weird Science (a sound design-oriented tip).

Of course if you have any questions about the applications, I'd be happy to answer them here.

CA:
Simply beautiful examples - I LOVE the Sound Design idea - I'da never thought of that one!  Much appreciation for your enthusiasm and expertise.

Those were great ideas. I just tried to make a patch point for 4 acoustic guitar parts to adjust vol all at once and failed. What was posted in the blog was mostly over my head. I do get the gist, but not the details of making it happen.

Curious as to why you don't assign the faders to a group. Then when you move one fader, the others in that group follow. Was this just an experiment to understand how the patch point feature works?

Re: Major "Jamaica Plain" SONAR Update Now in the Cakewalk Command Center! 2015/10/26 11:59:42 (permalink)
So ..I have dual 29 inch montiors, plenty of real estate. If I am reading correctly...I could NOT USE the bus section?

So my parallel compression, sub mixes etc. can all be handled with non bus tracks in the normal section?

Making the bus and master section show up and size correctly when I need to see it is a pain.  So I could forego that whole section which sounds great.

I use the second monitor as a full screen console view (it rocks).  However it is a pain to size and scroll all the bus section tracks.  Now I can have one full pane of tracks and control the subs and other stuff without resizing or scrolling an additional pane.  As long as I can see if the master is peaking I should be able to do away with that whole section.  For my work style this is good news.

Say you have two faders you want to group so that either one of them will also move the other.
Right click on one of the faders.
Select Group/New.
Name the Group i.e. Tubas
Select a color for the Group.
Click OK.
Right click on the next fader you want to add to the group.
Select Group/Tubas
You'll see the color you selected for the group at the bottom of the fader.
This can be done for other controls, i.e. Pan, Reverb level, etc.

Hope this helps,

Walt

Quick Grouping is even easier.

Just ctrl + click the tracks you want to control simultaneously & adjust your fader (or virtually any other control)

Loving this update so much: read that some other user installed it on an old laptop and that it ran great, so I decided to do the same on my antiquated beater, 7 year old laptop. Runs amazingly smooth and lean, so now I've got a reliable, mobile recording/performing setup that can run my 32 bit plugins without needing to bridge too.

Absolutely ecstatic about these performance enhancements; can't wait to see what else is in the pipeline. Thank you Bakers.

Re: Sneak Preview of new SONAR Update 2015/10/31 04:55:42 (permalink)
This thread helped me complete first time installation of SONAR Platinum Jamaica Plain Version under Windows 10 on Surface Pro 3. I am new to Windows 10 and had just upgraded the Surface from Windows 7 to Windows 10. I received the "Unable to register the DLL/OCK: RegSvr failed with exit code 0X3" dialog for Classic FX, Artist Instruments, and Platinum Instruments SONAR modules.

After reading this thread I checked for and installed Windows 10 updates. Then tried again to install the three SONAR modules that had failed to install running Command Center as Administrator and with the Windows Firewall and AVAST Free AV active. It worked! My SONAR installation is complete.

I'm not sure that running Command Center as Administrator was necessary as I didn't try to install the three failed modules as non-Administrator after completing the Windows 10 updates.

Though the three failed modules installed fine with Windows Firewall and AV active, I'm not sure the rest of the install would have completed with them active. I had turned the Windows Firewall off for most of the installation and had turned the AV off when I started dealing with the three failed modules.

This old thread continues to be helpful!!
