It's a pity we are having similar sorts of discussions and issues that we were having in X2/X3 though .... Progress sure but we need another leap.

Huge amount of bug fixes, tweaks, improvements every month since SPlt was introduced... What's the "pity" is the Avalanche of insinuations that little has changed since X2... Ridiculous!

This comment is not directed at anyone at all , my comments are directed at ideas not people …. I have sat on the sidelines as somebody who wanted to upgrade from X3 to the current Plat ,, Plat came out and it was at the exact time that I moved my living arrangements geographically . I look back at what has happened in the past 9 months and so many things have changed … The way Cakewalk does business has changed and the features are rolling out so fast I can hardly keep up . Let me make it clear , I'm OK w change up to a certain point and I'm not qualified to criticize or beat a War Drum over how things have changed ….since I'm still on X3 ….take my 2 cents w a grain of salt … Overall from what I'm getting reading the forum , I think that there are a large number of people that seem to be enjoying most of what has been taking place …. Just as one human being talking to another , When I also factor in even Windows has changed everything with Win 10 ……. I feel like I'm left here feeling somewhat confused about everything that has taken place …. It sort of reminds me of the time when a " friend of mine " invited me out to sit in with his band and he told me not to bother bringing my guitar ….he said there would be a guitar and an amp at his gig for me to use … When I got up on the stage to play ,he handed me a lefty guitar strung as a lefty and put a little smirk on his face … I wound up wiping that smirk off his face real fast…the poor fella never knew that I worked in music stores for years and that I used to love to break the boredom of it all by playing lefty guitars upside down as a righty My point is , It is very easy for a person ( in this case me ) to feel somewhat threatened when everything I have gotten comfortable doing workflow wise has been changed to the point where I don't even know how to do easily what I normally could do….( I'm starting to think maybe I didn't know what I was doing the whole time ) When you factor in all the new features in SONAR & having to learn all of that, plus a Windows OS change It is pretty easy for me to feel as if somebody has been trying to turn my DAW into a lefty Kenny

I hear you, Kenny! Actually, I haven't even touched or considered using most of the changes/add ons...as I'm overwhelmed and just enjoy using my moments to write/create. However, every month I read what's new and what's fixed and every once in awhile I try it... for example, the mixing saves are totally awesome and really clean up/consolidate song files and allow for experimentation within the song. Many use the changes I don't... I'm happy for them and may get around to them some day... Direct track recording? Immediately used it. Putting my crazy pic on my vocal tracks? Yea! But I'm happy for all the things people are enjoying AND the monthly list of bug fixes, even though they might not relate to how I use Sonar... Getting all nasty or just going on and on and on about how it's not perfect yet and why haven't you gotten to MY thing yet??? Oy...the memememe syndrome run amok in our country... I'm amazed at what is changing monthly... but the main thing is, none of it really impacts how I work, cept to make Sonar more stable and offer things some want... it doesn't get in my way at all. Even when new things aren't fully developed or need tweaking, the bakers have been able to do this based on our feedback real quickly... I am truly blown away at the entire group effort focused on improving our little creative ecosystem...

Vastman once again I see you are on the war drum. Doktor Avanche Progress sure but we need another leap.

What bit about "progress for sure" don't you understand? I said we need another leap, there are still a lot of legacy issues that need fixing. That's a fact and should not be regarded as a slight on the product nor should take away from Cakewalk's hard work so far. Doktor Avanche It's a pity we are having similar sorts of discussions and issues that we were having in X2/X3 though ....

Hoho. That's the second thread you decide to go on the personal and polarise everything. Just stop it. Reasonable discussions (even with differences of opinion) can happen without having to bite people's legs off.

I look at Sonar and I generally like the main screen. It seems at least as modern as any of the other daws.
I open up,the preferences dialog and it looks like a Win 3.1 box. Very dated. That's the kind of thing that confuses me. They're the sort of things that make me feel that things keep getting tagged on top and the old underneath is never cleaned out.
Please don't read that as critical of the tremendous progress that we're currently enjoying from the bakers. I applaud it. But it makes me expect more. I'm sure the bakers continue to expect more from one and other as well.

With everything that's been said about "moving on" posts, I think with Tom's post, it was just as much a cry for better notation / songwriting support, so he doesn't have to move on. I've used Cakewalk since before it could record audio... But I had some breaks in between and I've never recaptured the total command of the program I had when it was more ...simple. Around the Year 2000, I suddenly did a lot of recording again, with pro-musicians coming in, recording tracks, and I got really good at it again, but the only way I could keep Cakewalk going was by removing the side panels of my computer and putting a large box fan next to it. Without, Cakewalk Pro 8.5 (I think) would just crash or even blue screen the system. Now I don't have better hardware and Cakewalk's newer software, but I can't even tell what has changed or what I've simply forgotten. I hope Cakewalk will implement some song tools, like the sections in Studio One, that you can drag around with all tracks coming along. Or, for all I know, maybe Cakewalk just doesn't advertise it but can actually do it in some way or other that's just not as obvious...

I use Clip Groups. Not quite as elegant, but it's something I've done with video editing for years in Sony Vegas. So when SONAR added it, I just transferred an existing skill set over, and was good to go. I use it a lot in the songwriting process. The only caution is to avoid splitting the middle of MIDI notes and controllers, with audio it's very straightforward.

Vastman I see everywhere is the same old TomHelvey post, the parting shot out the door.... "Moving On"... Don't really get it... the need to blah blah blah...
I'd just like to announce I haven't left. But I could at any time if I don't get some extra love. Seriously. I could walk right out that door. Is that what you want? Ok. I'm walking. Don't try to stop me. I'm really doing it this time. Dammit. That wasn't the door out. That was a broom closet. OK. But I COULD walk out.
