Did you change the destination from drive C: to G:? In the versions of Cakewalk programs I have owned, they "strongly recommend" installing the programs in the default location on drive C:.
Are you using a 64-bit operating system?

Yeah that stuck out to me too... why are you installing on the "G" drive?

Normally, you do want to have these programs on the C drive. I think it's probably OK to install it on another drive...AS LONG AS that drive is an internal drive with 7200 RPM.

If the G drive in this case is internal you should be OK... but if it's an external drive, that could be why it's not working right. The only things I use externals for is sample libraries that load to memory, and storage.  Externals drives are much slower in data transfer than internal drives for a whole host of reasons.

The memory on that computer is at the lower end of the recommended RAM. But it should still run OK.

Greg, I changed from C: to G: and now the path set at G automatically comes up. I also have a registration number that pops up. I went back to the store and exchanged the MC5 for a different one thinking that the disk was corrupt. I come to the page that request the serial number and the old seriel number is still there. I entered the new serial number over the old one.

you're probably going to need to edit the registry now to get rid of all the references to cakewalk, music creator and G: drive.  there were instructions listed here on the forum how to do that for MC3, but I wouldn't trust those instructions for MC5.  I suggest you send an email to tech support and in your email, list this thread URL for them to read as well.

That's why I always (well almost always) let a program install where it wants to by default.  Generally the folks that wrote the code have some sort of idea as to how it should install to run the best.

Just a question: IF.... you were to pick a RESTORE to previous past date...... does that operation revert the directory back to before the install?  I was thinking it did. I seem to remember using this function in the past, successfully is something similar.

Worth a try IF the original install date is more recent than the oldest restore date available.  The worst that will happen is that any updates to other programs, will be lost but.... the apps will update again soon regardless. No data will be lost in the restore.

I would try that before I attempted to edit a registry.  You can easily foul things up in a registry with the wrong click.
